Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

The fact that a Marvel movie dares to question the big, shiny spectacle that is its bread and butter - and acknowledge that untold thousands die in the name of entertainment - seems rather novel.
Anthony Lane
The motto of the directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, appears to be: If you can make it happen, do it. Don't hold back.
Christopher Orr
As they did in Winter Soldier, the Russos have achieved an uncommon balance of plot and action, humor and drama, all of it once again deeply grounded in character.
Chris Klimek
It's the Vibranium standard for super-team flicks.

Civil War reminds us it's OK to enjoy a few laughs, even while diabolical villains plot doom, outraged citizens demand accountability and your best pal mistrusts you.
Jamelle Bouie
In the end this is a movie about friendships and conflict, and what can happen when the latter overwhelms the former. It's about two genuine heroes who can't reconcile their obligations and duties...

Best. MCU. Movie. So Far... This was, in effect, the culmination of everything from Iron Man to now. More specifically, it touched on everything from WInter Soldier to Age of Ultron and a couple of odd points in between. This movie is one of the rare times where the villain doesn't have a world conquering plan or even poses a huge threat. Yet in spite of this, you're hooked from the word 'go'. This movie literally changes everything going forward, specifically with Stark and Rogers. The Russos continue their brilliance in catching just the right tone for this movie and making sure nobody was left behind or left out. Everyone was properly accounted for and it leaves a LOT to question going forward in a good way. Their work on the last two Captain America movies have me so excited for Infinity War, it's beyond words. This was an EXCELLENT movie that was equal parts action and emotion. Ties up and ties off every loose end from the last few Marvel movies. The ending is tough from an emotional standpoint, but it's probably one of the best you'll see from an action flick of this kind.
An Epic Showdown, but I hated seeing Iron Man and Captain America kill each other in the end. Why wasn't Nick Fury in this movie? If anyone can find equality for the Avengers it's him. I don't think the Avengers should be governed, they should act when they have to. There for, I stand on the side of Team Cap. I'm glad to see more of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. I just wish Andrew Garfield stayed Spider-Man in this movie. When Ant Man turned into a giant, I freaked out with joy! The movie would've been more interesting if it had someone from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Speaking of which, when will the Avengers find out the truth, that Phil Coulson is still alive?
Waaaaaay Too Convoluted This movie had way to much going on. They should have stuck with the original idea and made it Caps movie. RDJ getting his role increased ruined it. Every ten seconds he wants to weep due to regretting something--the hell? I enjoy Marvel movies but they are forgetting what made Ironman so great and, instead, try to over stuff each movie. More and more and more. The whole Bucky/Cap thing: unbelievably dumb. They went way overboard with that BS.
Meh Honestly, I was expecting a bit more from Civil War. The storyline was kinda boring and just mashed in a bunch of new characters as well. However Spiderman and the other new guys nailed there roles. Spiderman acted exactly like he does in the comics: annoying, smart, and never stops coming up with great one-liners! I was also impressed with the role of antman and black panther. Nailed it! But like I said before, the plot was BORING. It was just kinda stupid because the government will be useless in the futu
Verbose, Low Action, & Boring No spoilers. I hope Marvel isn't setting a trend into mediocrity. Some of us must be watching a different movie. We all were very disappointed from its convoluted plot throughout its painfully verbose bantering. I thought Ant Man hit bottom and Marvel seems to be setting a trend "three is not a charm." You know a movie is boring when your wife falls to sleep and your kids are more concerned about their social media. I hope you can enjoy the movie.
"EXCELLENT FILM!" PROS: Great Story! cap murica' fights tony stark in a crazy yet heartfelt battle. The plot goes around The Avengers facing their biggest problem: they're too good and being great brings bigger enemies. At some point, people get hurt and people love revenge. The movie revolves around bringing marvel universe characters together so that they can be on the same timeline and place. On one hand, some avengers like stark, the other few don't like tony. Whether or not one side wins, the plot does a good job at building a worthwhile story. CONS: there's not enough time to build relationships between characters. Events in the movie feel like they're forced together. Its unclear if the reason the fighting is happening is justified. Not enough time with spider man. Avengers don't show much interest in one another.
Screw Bucky (Spoilers) --Sick of this series orbiting around Captain America's buddy-love for Bucky, consequences be damned. Action scenes were ok, but almost all of the dialogue was a non-stop guilt-trip. The whole premise that the Avengers should be governed by the UN, because they're guilty of collateral damage whenever they save the entire planet from total destruction, is fundamentaly flawed.
Shocked I enjoy the Marvel movies, and I loved the last two Captain America movies. That being said, this movie is terrible, and should not even be considered a part of the greater story. Poor acting, soulless writing, erratic characters, and an overall lazy entry. With a comic saga as rich and powerful as the Civil War story arc, this movie had potential; instead, the whole thing feels like an afterthought, hastily put together where the only goal was to shove in some miscellaneous characters before Infinity War.
They tried introducing way to many characters at once, and they did a horrible job at it. The story was all over the place, and ended up being very anticlimactic. None of the heroes died, they more just slapped each other and yelled a lot. Tony was an over sensitive baby, and Cap wasn't Cap at all. Like every Marvel movie, there's no real danger at all. Don't waste your money, it's not worth jt
rip off how can you charge 20 for the HD digital copy? i can buy the blue ray for 20 and just copy it with dvdfab. i have been buying deadpool and others because i like the convience of using 1 account to watch my movies on all my devices. but if theyre going to start charging the same as the hard copy, forget it. RIP OFF!
Avengers 2.5!! So rad. Even though he doesn't "die" at the end. So nice to see a logically grounded duke'em out between friends. "He killed my mom!!" Feel the hate, steve-o. So many open ends to explore: will one-handed Bucky ever wield the shield? If yes, why? Will steve-o become the gonad er nomad in the future? How will t'chalalalalala ever catch up to his dad on the greenbelt run with such a massive head start in his padres favor and bearing the weight of 2 mantles? I know my mantle is a heavy mother...rocked
Not perfect, but really damn good. Yeah, they should have killed War Machine. Sure, Spiderman was out of place and making Aunt May a hot cougar was ridiculous. And the Vision, Scarlet Witch romantic tension had neither romance or tension. Plus Paul Rudd kind of stole the show during the airport set piece. Still, this movie is more than the sum of its parts. The relationship between Cap and Bucky really elevates this film to something interesting and watchable. How far would one go give their best friend a chance for redemption? Find out.
Awesome & Dark By far the darkest of the MCU. Captain America fights for truth while Tony Stank "Yes, thank you for that Stan Lee!", Goes down a dark path to stop him and his supporters. It is basic a Avengers 2.5 movie inside a Captain America stand alone movie. With several storyline and twists happening. No one agrees with one another. A must own, especially with phase 3 forming well and leading the russo's to once again return in the director's chairs for the part 2 Avengers films which we can't wait for.
Civil War follows the high intensity film Winter Soldier. Instead of this movie focusing on the matter of having a leash on rogue vigilantes this movie pushes that plot to the side to make room for the friendship between Cap and Buck.To start off the title Civil war implies a complete divide between two sides, we briefly see this between Tony and Steve but is quickly snuffed by un-apologetic letters and endless Marvel quips.Rather than focusing on this plotline the film stuffs your judgement with eye popping visuals ever ingeniously put together action scenes and brief awkward dramatics.Including One giant plot hole that is completely pivotal to the movie. The death scene with Tony, Steve, and Buck.So apparently Zemo knew Cap would go through Tony with Buck and somehow be tracked by tony all at the same time meeting at the same place. Verdict:Overrated,WintSoldier is better,Bunch of good action, unpractical for Cap to beat Tony,3 in a half stars, comic book fans will be disappointed,Watch it.
Disney doing what it does best... Milking a franchise to its illogical end. Poor pacing, stiff dialog, preachy at the worst times. Being formulaic might be this movies saving grace, at least you know if you endure another cardboard speech from Cap or Tony you'll get a giant set-piece action scene to enjoy. Just think, only another 12 Marvel films in the cycle.
Captain America Civil War Action squared. Like they could not get enough fighting. But I liked that it showed these avengers have real emotional people issues. Also it's about time the reality of the deaths to innocent people they cause got dealt with .The concept of then submitting to anyone but Fury wow really how long do you think this will happen .
Best Marvel movie yet! This movie is filled with most of the old Avengers and all the new ones. Plus Spiderman, the winter soldier and black panther. All the haters say it has to go around the civil war arc. This is just about the Avengers disagreeing and having a civil war against each other.
Silly, even by comic-book movie standards At the heart of this movie is a facile moral dilemma: it turns out that when you engage in major battles to save the world, innocents are put in harm's way. Who knew? But this not at all stunning revelation causes former cynic Tony Stark to lose his reason and acquiesce to having the Avengers put under the control of the UN(!!!) We enjoyed the goofy airport battle, and it was refreshing to see a Marvel movie without a huge crashing boss fight at the end, but we rolled our eyes through most of it.
BEST MCU MOVIE EVER!!!!!!! This movie is almost as good as The Avengers. It kind of feels like Exodus: Gods and Kings, because there were two brothers/friends who got along very well, but later on in the movie, the brothers/friends were forced into conflict because of something they both have different feelings about: painful slavery/loss of freedom, choice, and privacy.
Good but overrated Feige is slowly killing the MCU by eliminating any sort of creative authority the "directors" have. Different movie tones and styles of great directors like Favreau and Whedon that made Phase 1 great are replaced with generic, cookie cutter movies where quality story is replaced with overstuffed action sequences, occasional witty references and feel good hugs for everyone. Love the MCU like a son but people will grow tired of retitled repeats and fanboys everywhere will suffer for it when sales tank in the next few years. This movie is another example of the above description, where "just okay" is good enough...for now.
Civil crap This movie was one of the worst I have ever seen. Super long, super boring, super waste of time. This movie is all hype and no power. The action scenes were not epic enough to make the movie even a quarter good.
I like the Marvel Universe stuff though the Universe is expanding a bit too much. I don't think it makes any sense that Iron Man, who resisted the government grabbing his suit in Iron Man II, is now fighting for the government to control the Avengers. Really cool to bring a lot of these characters together. Black Panther is awesome. Spider Man was a bit of a let down. Aunt Meg is not supposed to be a hottie. That's like an Andy Griffith remake with Aunt Bee being sultry. Just no, no, no. Paul Rudd is great and I'm glad Ant Man was a part of this. Captain America might be the best of the bunch and I'm very interested to see where they go with Bucky. It's definitely worth a rental.
MCU love. I read ALOT of the comments people wrote and went into watching it with a somewhat open mind, I'm a MCU & DC dork. The fight in Bucky's apartment and the airport fight were great action sequences, the banter between old and new characters had a charm about it. I did not like the use of cuss words, which is usually very few in previous movies, in Civil War they used all the heavy hitters. Really? Now my 8 year old son with Autism can't watch it and he isn't happy. Use your words people.
loved it this marvel movie separates itself from the others, by having a diverse story, in which the bad guy is more sneaky, and he does not want to kill people, but feels as if it has to happen for the avengers to pay. if anyone thinks this movie stinks because they do not understand the fighting, it is because stark [my favorite] feels torn cause he does not want to disagree with cap feels that they need to be put in check. over all this movie tops the rest [not age of ultron] in a twirl of emotion, action, and truth.
Poor plot turned fanominal movie This movie had a pretty bad plot that revolved around Tony Stark wanting the Avengers to be put in check by the United Nations for his mistakes. However, despite that being the plot, it was a darn good movie that I highly enjoyed.
Amazing I don't have to say much, just look at the overall ratings and how many people liked it over people that disliked it. It just seems like they took all the disliked people and put them in a row down in the reviews so I'm here to break that trend. Don't listen to then, its an amazing movie and plus it introduces Spiderman as an opening to his new movie coming up
Way too many characters, not so great There were way too many characters in this film to the point where the plot got lost. Too much senseless fighting instead of plotting and character development. Only cool thing about Captain America Civil War is Spiderman and Iron Man's family story.
Meh Action wise this movie nails it. But like batman v superman it centers too much on a plot focused solely to excuse the collateral damage the heroes cause while the visual effects are saved in one amazing airport sequence making the final climax fall short of amazing. If only Marvel worked a little harder on making decent villains like Loki, maybe this film and age of ultron could be better films. Not just action wankery and boring dialogue.
Too much Hollywood... not enough main Street. The only thing I can make of it is that they were pushing the idea that the UN is the way we should be controlled.. I am an American citizen and the truth is that I have no faith in mankind. My faith is in my God, and my family.
Marvel's done it again cranked out another hit! A solid Super hero hit mashup, and this isn't half the Marvel universe but some of the biggest from Captain America, Iron man to Spider-man to Black panther a true Marvel masterpiece from beginning to shocking and heart breaking end.
Its marvel so not good! Its time RDJ moves on and does real roles. This is a tired boring and unrealistic universe. BVS much better.
For 8 Year Old Audiences At this point im done with marvel. Avengers 2 sucked, Civil War was definitely awful and i dont like the way the MCU is going. Good news, show this movie to your 7- 9 year old kids and theyll love it. Show it to any mature and intelligent teen- adult and they should understand why this is a boring one liner filled excuse for a blockbuster. Done.
Disappointing as hell Overated crap. Expected something better. Hearing 10/10s left and right i went in expecting to have a seizure from awesomeness, but came out like a victim of a beating
Great!!! This movie will leave you with a permanent grin the entire time your watching it. A fun movie that is obviously made by people that love marvel and had fun making this. As for the people saying it's either too convoluted or hard to follow I'm guessing those people probably have the attention span of a 5 year old watching barney... no offense intended it's just really not hard to follow at all.
CAP IS SO BAE!!!!!!OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE!!!!I love it so much omg!!!!!!! The one part I HATE HATE HATE(!!!!!!!) is when Iron Man hurts Cap that's why I hate him because he Hurt Cap he is a big bleh!!!!!!!>.< >.< >.< I really like the movie but I don't like the end fighting scene and yes before u ask I am COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!!!I have Cap binders, Cap blankets, Cap posters, Cap canvases, Cap bobble heads, Cap action figures, Cap Tsum Tsum's, and more I don't feel like typing oh wait I also have a necklace with Cap's Shield on it I have a folder in school that says do what you â?¤ on it I drew Captain America stuff all over it, i have way more Cap stuff so yeah......
wat d hey wid all dos people fighting they still made justice for most characters, well almost... but one spidy, come one spidy could take on most of them all by his own alone but movie kept me on edge even though i wont agree for civil war n reason they gave n bad guy had no much role to play no character build up at least in this one. will want to watch more of this n must say with iron man in movie its must watch although no much screen time for spidy otherwise he wld eat whole movie
Great!! Some people here should really read the comics!! Its kind of idiotic to criticize a movies content if you Havent even read the book or comics that it comes from.
Great movie. Alot of these reviews on here are complaining about how the movies sucked and was terrible.... PEOPLE IT'S NOT SCHINDLERS LIST OR THE WOLF OF WALL STREET....its a freaking comic book movie and for a comic book movie it was fun, entertaining, action packed and in my opinion one of the best fighting scenes I've seen in a movie in a long time. I give it the green light... it's a go👌🖒
Epic showdown between two Avengers who do not see eye to eye about control For those who are not aware, Civil War was based on the 2006 to 2007 storyline. It shows a lot of details about national security and how after 911 the nation changed. I would recommend reading the comics and looking for the book detailing the psychology of Captain America and Iron Man
Idk.... My feelings are mixed for this one...... As a Marvel movie and a movie in general, it was good. Problems are, first off, this movie wasn't exactly Captain America centered, so for a Cap movie, it was terrible. Second, Bucky lost the charm that made him unique in the first two movies. Third off, I did like the appearances of other superheroes, but despite so, what did they have to do anything with a feud between Cap, Iron Man, and Black Panther? Did I mention that the camera is really shaky? Lastly, the movie felt long...........
