Adonis Johnson never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa. Adonis tracks Rocky down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo and agrees to take him on.

Anyone hoping the franchise might open out into new thematic territory will be disappointed; this is the same old ritual, from the amped-up training sequences to the climactic title fight with its absurd number of punches landed in every round.
David Sims
It's an invigorating piece of nostalgia that fuels a bigger adrenaline rush with its climax than any big-budget blockbuster could provide.
Stephanie Zacharek
Coogler keeps everything moving so gracefully that by the end of Creed, we almost don't know what hit us.
Chris Klimek
Whether the credit goes to the director or the actor or both, this is the performance of Stallone's career, one in which that age-defying orange body stays covered up but his sadness is in full view.
Joe Morgenstern
The film is full of life and loose humor, and Creed often transcends the genre by playing with movie mythology.
Peter Travers
Hot damn! Fruitvale Station director Coogler, 29, turbocharges the Rocky franchise. Jordan is stellar. And so irresistible is Stallone's blend of tough and tender that Oscar should give him points. Yo, Academy!

Not even Rocky can deliver a line like, "It's you against you; he's just in the ring" without sounding ridiculous

Rating prices not the film. Anything " Rocky" is a must see for me. I get 12gb for $50 so two movies at these prices = I'm out of cash with @10gb to try use up. The whole downloading system seems no different from a recording obtained from a friend only we pay a hellova lot more. Without an original cover & disc I can't believe that the company can justify charging about the same prices. Is it possible that they reckon everyone is a pirate so they punish through prices. Sorry but too dear for me to buy
I was curious to see Creed after watching Southpaw which I thought was a great boxing film that is overshadowed by Stallone and Jordan's effort here. Now that I've seen both I can see why. Creed is a good film with great performances by Stallone, Jordan and Thompson. Those three performances elevate this film allow it to punch above its weight class. But therein lies the problem. The story of the film has a few "come on now" moments. Moments that just aren't believable. What made the original Rocky story believable was the way Apollo and Rocky's fight came to be. It made sense in its context. In Creed, Adonis's fight with the champion Conlan made no sense. Apollo wanted a one-off spectacle to give an unknown a shot at the title. Conlan and his manager was looking for a payday and a blatant attempt at a payday it is. Rocky's objections to this arrangement are weak at best which is surprising considering Apollo died because of his hesitation at ringside. Adonis proved in the beginning of the film he clearly wasn't ready. His training didn't really illustrate how he grew to become ready. But this is an average film made better by three key performances.
Dissapointing... I'm not exactly sure how this movie recieved a 94% on rotten tomatoes. I would say it's much closer to 20%. I was extremely dissapointed. This is more or less the same movie as the original Rocky. It's a modern day remake of the original which makes it so unoriginal. There were so many directions they could have gone within the script and I waited and waited but they never took me on a captivating journey. With that said Sly has obviously acting ability but the script was to blame here.
Wouldn't say I loved it Stallone saved the movie and steals the show. I hate Michael B Jordan his acting is just too cliché and weak. The rest of the cast were boring and uninspiring. So I'm giving it a full 5 stars for stallone alone. I also prefer the original music score as opposed to the crap rap they selected.
Sub Par. "CREED" sticks true to original Rocky's in the screenplay aspects, but undoubtedly lacks in modern originality. "Creed" throws in your face just about the same things the classic rocky movies would, with illness, loss and continuous motivational speeches (yet not as much as "Rocky Balboa" may I add). In conclusion the movie was very Stallone, with tasteless music and sometimes awkward dialogue between characters that can be cringe worthy and can be overall an unmemorable experience.
A Genuine Rocky Movie I didn't think there would be a way to carry on the legacy of the great Rocky films. Sure Rocky 5 was garbage, but the previous 4 films somehow always managed to have you on the edge of your seat pulling for the underdog. True to form this film exposes you to the life of not just a boxer, but a man who is looking to overcome his own insecurities with the help of a perfectly balanced supporting cast. Stallone delivered the performance of his life, and has reminded us of why we are all Rocky fans at heart.
That movie was really something else and the story was right on trying to tie everything in with the Rocky Movies. Stallone and Jordan was really something else making this movie must have been a real trip. They should of won an Oscar but gotten ripped off by Hollywood as usual. Yeah I believe they did an outstanding job how they created one last Rocky Movie but it was really about Apollo Creed's son finding out about his history and rising to fame and continue the legacy that Apollo left behind.
Just why are people screaming about how great this crap is? A very, very thin plot and absolutely NO storyline. The acting was worse than the first Rocky. By the way, how old is this Creed boy? Since his dad died in '84 he'd have to be 32. A little too old to begin boxing.
Extremely Good First off let me say I had never seen any of the Rocky movies. I was a little confused at first by not getting some references, but it came together very quickly and is still an amazing movie without watching the prequels. It was very good at getting to your emotions, at times I wanted to lean over and hug my girlfriend, other times I wanted to stand up and go for an intense lift or sucker punch the guy sitting beside me, go home and hug my grandparents, & other times I felt like a #1 fan in a stadium!
Right Hooked While the story is a bit far fetched... And there wasn't much believable growth in his fighting before the big match, I did enjoy the performance of Adonis Creed. The acting, by all involved, white washes the fact that the script is a little sewn together. The trajectory of this film is very similar to Rocky Balboa.
Yo, Adrian! Good movie. Hit some low points. Didn't capitalize on Apollo' legacy the way I'd hoped. Also, could've been a deeper story as far as the parallels between poverty and race and the subtle differences between a poor Italian immigrant vs a poor inner city black kid, but they chose to stay closer to the surface, and that's ok, too.
In the Rocky trialogies you felt connect to the people, the emotion and became involved emotionally in the termoial of the ups and days. You easily became invested... Creed is void of any emotional connection to its audience becoming so disconnected that one simply remains board from start to finish.. Great potential but was a big boring flop instead.
Wow! I had been wanting to see this movie since it came out and finally got around to watching it. I was blown away at how purely entertaining it was. Near the end, there was a scene that made me realize just how invested in the characters I had become, and I can say that is something I've felt with few other films. Honestly cannot recommend this enough, particularly for fans of past Rocky movies, sports films, or underdog stories.
My Son and I agree that this wasn't as good as we thought it should be. Southpaw is Heaps Better even my 19yr old says that too. I don't ever expect movies to live up to the trailer and or hype. If I did I would of watched some crap movies.
Bored the whole time No side action, bad acting, basically a spoiled kid gets okay at boxing. And lucky cause of his dads name. Thats it.
The best one Brian and all haters you suck ass this movie told a brand new story of another long shot it had action emotion powerful messages you couldn't even comprehend to understand cause your not a fighter of life it just I'm a fighter and he is sick it's the every day struggle being on the grind going hard making your name mean something
The award went to the wrong actor Stallone was the supporting actor, let's get it straight.
quite good. not surprised by Michael B. Jordan's excellent performance. but Stallone was really wonderful. this is the Rocky Balboa we remember from Rocky–and even Rocky II–brutally sweet, honorable, warm, and determined. while you really can't get here without watching, at least, the comically colorful Rocky III (where the Creed/Balboa relationship is finally cemented) and the absurdly cartoonish steroid-fest of Rocky IV, you CAN skip the abysmal Rocky V (tommy the gun whatever) and the somewhat soporific Rocky VI. punch, punch, kiss, tear, tear, punch, kiss, tear, tear, punch, punch, punch, tear, kiss, tear. a perfect Rocky.
Surprisingly Great Usually the 5th,6th, or whatever number this is, stinks. But this movie is an absolute winner.
You should watch it! It felt a little boring at first and you would definitely expect the end. But the last scene, What a fight ! It felt like I was in the ring
Good but a shame Great film but conlan the champion creed faces at the end couldn't convince me he could fight and his body image is shocking for someone that should be world champion. He looked out if shape and it showed
CREED EXTENDED ROCKY, WIT THA TABLES TURNED ROCKO INTO THE TRAIN ER TRAINING APPOLLO CREEDS SON BOXING NOW WIT THE HARDSHIPS THAT COME WIT BING A CREED TRAINED BY ROCKY BALBOA FROM THEM MEAN STREETS O PHILLY MY HOMETOWN. CHECK IT OUT IF U CAN DIGG THA ROCKY SAGA
If you've never watched a Rocky film before, then stop, go get into the others and take your time with them. Rocky is simple. Its also one of the finest series in dramatic cinema, and "Creed" is a glorious addition. If you didn't like the previous installments and aren't feeling for that love and the energy, this movie isn't for you. If you did, and are interested - then the answer is "yes", you ARE going to love this film. Buy it/rent it (and the previous installments) and support the families and business of those responsible for making this, so they can keep bringing the love to the screen.
I was told I'd hate it, but... I accidentally loved it. It is what it is... a boxing movie. I waaas hoping Rocky would've put his mitts on someone though, for old time sake.
I cried. I watched this twice and balled like baby! A great reboot of a classic.
A Worthy addition to the Rocky series. I loved this movie, and really liked the direction of where they took the movie. My only real gripe was the acting quality from the man that played Creed's son. His acting felt a little forced. But the rest of the cast's acting was spot on.
Yawn Shut it down about 45 min into it. Plot, dialog, action was about engaging as leaving the TV off and staring at the blank screen.
Creed hit a different level. Stallone came up with another A game.
Good movie Rocky 3 and 4 are my favorite. The hype of the villains in those movies is what made the film. If there is a Creed 2, we need to see a larger than life villain. Acting was good in this film. Just the hype at the end wasn't there.

Great Creed could have not been any better! This movie pressed motivation to the max. It lead me to the old saying "Dream big and it will happen". Creed was A movie about strength and determination! Let's go Adonnis Creed!
Great! What a performance by Sylvester Stallone! it's a endearing Powerful movie about two people finding each other in the fight of their life. After seeing this movie I felt like going to a boxing ring and start fighting that's how motivated I was. If you haven't bought this movie buy it now do it!
In the spirit of the original Rocky Now this is a sequel. It captured the spirit of the original not rebooting/ rehashing/repackaging the original. It respected its established canon and respected the beloved characters of the original... I'm looking at you Star Wars Episode VII.
Yessss. This movie is 30yrs in the making! I LOVED Apollo and was angry when he died, but it added to one of the best story lines in history. Add this to the Rocky Box set. ONLY series that comes close to this is the Terminator and that's a long shot.
Great movie a must watch Even if you're not a huge Rocky fan you should check out this film very well made movie and very underrated. Well acted great action/fight/boxing scenes and even gets a tough guy kinda emotional in a good if surprising way. Support this movie... It's a great one.
Great Movie! Same Concept/New Angle! I can certainly see why this movie is getting 5 star rating. The movie was indeed great on story, acting and heart. For everyone who isn't recognizing its rating, thinking that it sucked, you didn't see beyond the movie. If you didn't see beyond, like many people who didn't recognize Rocky Balboa or Rocky V, you ain't a real Rocky fan and don't get the concept of the series.
Blah If you have seen any Rocky movie you have seen them all. You could watch the trailer and be done with the story. However if you are new to the franchise this is a good one from start to finish. Sly Stallone has finally turned into a decent actor. But still very predictable.
Meh. I found the fight CGI to be awful. Stallone is no Brando. Rocky character arcs, pun intended. It's a cool sports flick with some redemption. Worth a rental, but not an Oscar nomination.
Terrible This has to be one of the worst films I've seen in a long time what was Stallone thinking putting his name to this, shockingly bad I was cringing at points, I've never left a review before felt I had to for this
Awesome Movie!!! Leaves you wondering what's going to happen in the next one! Can't stop there!
