Police pursued a green sedan travelling up to 150km/h along the Princes Freeway towards the city on Monday afternoon, following two attempted armed robberies at a jewellery store and tobacconist in Melbourne's north.
The green sedan, believed to be stolen, sped along the freeway weaving between cars.
A caller to radio station 3AW said the car was seen travelling on the wrong side of the road at one point.
Police finally caught up with the sedan on the West Gate Bridge.
Multiple police cars surrounded the sedan.
Officers swarmed the vehicle, smashing its windows, before dragging the teenage driver out and arresting him.
Two other teenagers were also arrested at the scene.
The dramatic arrest blocked the inbound lanes of the West Gate Bridge shortly before 5.30pm, bringing peak-hour traffic to a halt.
Three inbound lanes reopened about 5.50pm, but two remain closed for almost an hour.
The three teens allegedly tried to hold up a jewellery store on May Road in Lalor about 2pm on Monday.
It is believed some of the teens then allegedly tried to hold up a tobacconist on Plenty Road, Preston, about 2.35pm.
