The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest bridges of either type in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It has a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m), and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed. It was originally referred to as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and as the East River Bridge, but it was later dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge, a name coming from an earlier January 25, 1867, letter to the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, and formally so named by the city government in 1915. Since its opening, it has become an icon of New York City, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1972.
Although the Brooklyn Bridge is technically a suspension bridge, it uses a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge design. The towers are built of limestone, granite, and Rosendale cement. The limestone was quarried at the Clark Quarry in Essex County, New York. The granite blocks were quarried and shaped on Vinalhaven Island, Maine, under a contract with the Bodwell Granite Company, and delivered from Maine to New York by schooner.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is an 85-acre (34 ha) park on the Brooklyn side of the East River in New York City. The park has revitalized 1.3-mile (2.1 km) of Brooklyn's post-industrial waterfront from Atlantic Avenue in the south, under the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and past the Brooklyn Bridge, to Jay Street north of the Manhattan Bridge. The site includes Brooklyn Piers 1–6, the historic Fulton Ferry Landing, and the preexisting Empire–Fulton Ferry and Main Street Parks. Two Civil War-era structures, Empire Stores and the Tobacco Warehouse, will also be integrated into the park.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is overseen by Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation, a not-for-profit entity responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and operation of the park. The Corporation's mission is to "create and maintain a world class park that is a recreational, environmental and cultural destination enjoyed by residents of, and visitors to, New York City".
In 1642 the first ferry landing opened on the land that is now Brooklyn Bridge Park's Empire Fulton Ferry section. Soon after a thriving trading economy developed into a small town called "het Veer," meaning "the Ferry". As het Veer grew throughout the 17th century, it became known as the "Road to the Ferry".

lyrics: Girl, I heard you're getting married Heard you're getting married, this time you're really sure And this is the end, they say you really mean it This guy's the one that makes you feel so safe So sane and so secure And baby, if he loves you more than me Maybe it's the best thing Maybe it's the best thing for you But it's the worst that could happen to me I'll never get married, never get married You know that's not my scene But a girl like you needs to be married I've known all along you couldn't live forever in between And baby, if he loves you more than me Maybe it's the best thing Maybe it's the best thing for you But it's the worst that could happen to me And girl, I don't really blame you For having a dream of your own Hey girl, I don't really blame you A woman like you nee...
Sue & Steve take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan on a lovely morning on 2nd November 2011.
Hailed as the Eighth Wonder of the world, the Great East River Bridge was tangible proof of America's achievement. The Brooklyn Bridge is more than a suspension bridge, connecting the two shores of Brooklyn and Manhattan; it is a preeminent symbol of New York. It represents magnificence, change, unity, improvement, and influence. By producing a phenomenon of sheer beauty and technological breakthroughs, the bridge demonstrates the power of New York City. When it was completed in 1883, the bridge joined the separate cities of Brooklyn and Manhattan, merging the cultures of two of the largest cities in America. This accomplishment paved the way for the consolidation of the five Boroughs of New York, and brought the city into international limelight. The Brooklyn Bridge is a cultural symb...

New York's "Brooklyn Bridge" Achieved Their Biggest Hit Success In 1969 With "The Worst That Could Happen". But, Their Next Single Was A Great Achievement Too In That It Was A "2-Sided" Hit. The First Side Was "Blessed Is The Rain" And On The Flip Side Was Our Featured Song Today Called "Welcome Me Love". Both Sides Did Fairly Well...."Blessed" Made It To #45 And "Welcome" To #48 in 1969. Here Is The Brooklyn Bridge Featuring Superb Lead Vocals From The Late Johnny Maestro!

It only seems like yesterday that the Woodbridge Channels recorded Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge in concert. The summer concerts have always drawn a good size audience, but no one could match the size of the audience for Johnny's concerts. Little did we know that this was to be Johnny's last performance in Woodbridge. Please enjoy this performance of the legendary Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge. If you enjoyed this concert, please rate and share. Thank you.
It's "family chore day" but everyone has different plans as the day progresses. The guys trip to buy underwear ends with a trip to Coney Island in a new Cadillac. The women's cleaning ends up with a trip to the movies to see Danny Kaye. Brooklyn Bridge was an American television program which aired on CBS between 1991 and 1993. It is about a Jewish American family living in Brooklyn in the middle 1950s. The premise was partially based on the childhood of executive producer and creator Gary David Goldberg. Brooklyn Bridge Park here in Brooklyn, New York on this beautiful Spring day. Here we take in the Lower Manhattan Skyline. One World Trade Center shines very nicely, we also see 30 Park Place next to the Woolworth which has recently topped out. We also take a look at the Brooklyn Bridge as well as the Manhattan Bridge, note: they call this area between the Bridges DUMBO. So south of the Brooklyn Bridge is called Brooklyn Heights. After the opening of the bridge to the public in 1883, Harper's Monthly reported, "The wise man will not cross the bridge in five minutes, nor in twenty. He will linger to get the good of the splendid view about him". As I have lingered and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge over the years, the stunning v...
