California's American Indian & Indigenous Film Festival (CAIIFF) is offering audiences in San Diego County the finest work in American Indian film and media on an annual basis. The CAIIFF will highlight the best of current films from American Indian filmmakers, producers, directors, and actors working through Indian Country.
The CAIIFF, located in Southern California, is located in an area that is home to the largest number of Indian reservations in the region and we will be able to reach unprecedented numbers of tribal people and the surrounding community. The festival offers an event that promises not only exclusive viewings, but includes three days of interactive dialogues with film industry professionals, selected panel discussions and opportunity for Q&A; sessions after each screening.

About Alicia Woods
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Alicia experienced a culturally and ethnically diverse upbringing. A descendant of immigrants from Poland and Germany from her mother and of African American and American Indian heritage from her father, her multicultural experiences fueled her interest in understanding the dynamics of race in America. She studied the history of people of color in colonial America at the University of New Mexico and continued her formal education at the University of Washington where she earned a Master of Communication from the Native Voices film program.
Her award winning thesis film, "American Red and Black: Stories of Afro Native Identity," investigates mixed heritage issues and has been shown at a variety of film festivals and universities in the US and Canada. Alicia works for the Muckleshoot Tribal College as a writing specialist and instructor. She strives to integrate her passions for art production and empowering educational communities of color. Alicia is also on the board of MAVIN, a nonprofit dedicated to building healthier communities by providing educational resources about mixed heritage experiences.

California (
i/ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrnjə/ KAL-ə-FORN-yə, /ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrniə/ KAL-ə-FAWR-nee-ə) is a state located on the West Coast of the United States. It is the most populous U.S. state, with 39 million people, and the third largest state by area (after Alaska and Texas). California is bordered by Oregon to the north, Nevada to the east, Arizona to the southeast, and the Mexican state of Baja California to the south. It contains the nation's second most populous census statistical area (Greater Los Angeles Area) and the fifth most populous (San Francisco Bay Area), and eight of the nation's 50 most populated cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach, and Oakland). Sacramento has been the state capital since 1854.
What is now California was first settled by various Native American tribes before being explored by a number of European expeditions during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was then claimed by the Spanish Empire as part of Alta California in the larger territory of New Spain. Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful war for independence, but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. The western portion of Alta California was organized as the State of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.

Native Americans in the United States
In the United States, Native Americans are considered to be people whose pre-Columbian ancestors were indigenous to the lands within the nation's modern boundaries. These peoples were composed of numerous distinct tribes, bands, and ethnic groups, and many of these groups survive intact today as sovereign nations. The terms Native Americans use to refer to themselves vary regionally and generationally, with many older Native Americans self-identifying as "Indians" or "American Indians", while younger Native Americans often identify as "Indigenous". Which terms should be used to refer to Native Americans has at times been controversial. The term "Native American" has been adopted by major newspapers and some academic groups, but has not traditionally included Native Hawaiians or certain Alaskan Natives, such as Aleut, Yup'ik, or Inuit peoples. Indigenous American peoples from Canada are known as First Nations.
Since the end of the 15th century, the migration of Europeans to the Americas has led to centuries of exchange and adjustment between Old and New World societies. Most Native American groups had historically lived as hunter-gatherer societies and preserved their histories by oral traditions and artwork, which has resulted in the first written sources on the conflict being authored by Europeans.

Captives in American Indian Wars
Treatment applied to European captives taken in wars or raids in the present-day United States varied according to the culture of each tribe. Before the arrival of Europeans, Native American peoples all across the country had developed customs for dealing with captives. Depending on the cultural region, captives could be killed, kept alive and assimilated into the tribe, or enslaved. When Native American peoples came into contact with European settlers, they applied longstanding customary traditions for dealing with Native captives to the European newcomers. United States history, particularly in the colonial period, includes many examples of captives, and their associated treatment; the American Indian Wars and migrations of the 19th century also resulted in many captives being taken.
Captivity narratives were often written by European Americans who were ransomed or escaped from captivity.
Cultural background
In the eastern woodlands cultural area (roughly encompassing the eastern one-half of the United States, and the southern portion of Quebec and Ontario), cultural traditions for dealing with captives predated the arrival of Europeans, and involved either adoption or execution by torture.

About Alicia Woods
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Alicia experienced a culturally and ethnically diverse upbringing. A descendant of immigrants from Poland and Germany from her mother and of African American and American Indian heritage from her father, her multicultural experiences fueled her interest in understanding the dynamics of race in America. She studied the history of people of color in colonial America at the University of New Mexico and continued her formal education at the University of Washington where she earned a Master of Communication from the Native Voices film program.
Her award winning thesis film, "American Red and Black: Stories of Afro Native Identity," investigates mixed heritage issues and has been shown at a variety of film festivals and universities in the US and Canada. Alicia works for the Muckleshoot Tribal College as a writing specialist and instructor. She strives to integrate her passions for art production and empowering educational communities of color. Alicia is also on the board of MAVIN, a nonprofit dedicated to building healthier communities by providing educational resources about mixed heritage experiences.

Shamanism is a system for psychic, emotional, and spiritual healing and for exploration, discovery, and knowledge gathering about non-material worlds and states of mind. Shamanism is a "technique of ecstasy" in which the spirit of the shaman leaves the body and travels to communicate with spirit helpers and other beings for the purpose of obtaining knowledge, power, or healing.
Shamanic Astral Projection or Shamanic Journeying is an altered state of consciousness wherein you enter a realm called non-ordinary reality. By journeying you can gather knowledge and perform healing in ways that are not accessible in ordinary waking reality.
How does shamanism work?
Some people think that in shamanic healing journeying, the spirit leaves the body and a person is being healed by spirit helpers. Others think that shamanic journeying allows access to one's own intuition, which may otherwise be drowned out by the prattle of everyday thinking or by anxiety; and that it is a way of engaging a person's subconscious desires for healing.

Shamanism is a system for psychic, emotional, and spiritual healing and for exploration, discovery, and knowledge gathering about non-material worlds and states of mind. Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.

Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. Kit Carson - 1940 western starring Jon Hall, Lynn Bari, Dana Andrews
Kit Carson (Jon Hall) and his two saddle pals, Ape (Ward Bond) and Lopez (Harold Huber) are attacked by Indians. They manage to escape unscatched and make their way to Fort Bridger, where Captain John Fremont (Dana Andrews) hires Carson to guide a wagon train westward to California south along the Oregon Trail. Both Carson and Fremont fall in love with pretty Dolores Murphy (Lynn Bari), on her way to her father's hacienda in Monterey. Meanwhile, General Castro (C. Henry Gordon), the Mexican Governor General of California, arms the Shoshoni Indians in an effort to keep the Americans out of California.

About Alicia Woods
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Alicia experienced a culturally and ethnically diverse upbringing. A descendant of immigrants from Poland and Germany from her mother and of African American and American Indian heritage from her father, her multicultural experiences fueled her interest in understanding the dynamics of race in America. She studied the history of people of color in colonial America at the University of New Mexico and continued her formal education at the University of Washington where she earned a Master of Communication from the Native Voices film program.
Her award winning thesis film, "American Red and Black: Stories of Afro Native Identity," investigates mixed heritage issues and has been shown at a variety of film festivals and universities in the US and Canada. Alicia works for the Muckleshoot Tribal College as a writing specialist and instructor. She strives to integrate her passions for art production and empowering educational communities of color. Alicia is also on the board of MAVIN, a nonprofit dedicated to building healthier communities by providing educational resources about mixed heritage experiences.

In This Series We Examine Thanksgiving & The Untold Truths About Native Americans Not Taught In America's Education System. #SUBSCRIBE
"In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue" . . . and made the first contact with the "Indians." For Native Americans, the world after 1492 would never be the same. This date marked the beginning of the long road of persecution and genocide of Native Americans, our indigenous people. Genocide was an important cause of the decline for many tribes.
"By conservative estimates, the population of the United states prior to European contact was greater than 12 million. Four centuries later, the count was reduced by 95% to 237 thousand.
Hundreds of native peoples made up of millions of individuals occupied the lands that would become the United States of America. During the colonial and independent periods, a long series of Indian Wars were fought with the primary objective of obtaining much of North America as territory of the U.S. Through wars, massacre, forced displacement (such as in the Trail of Tears), restriction of food rights, and the imposition of treaties, land was taken and numerous hardships imposed. Ideologies justifying the context included stereotypes of Native Americans as "merciless Indian savages" (as described in the United States Declaration of Independence) and the quasi-religious doctrine of Manifest Destiny which asserted divine blessing for U.S. conquest of all lands west of the Atlantic seaboard to the Pacific. The most rapid invasion occurred in the California gold rush, the first two years of which saw the deaths of tens of thousands of Indians. Following the 1848 American invasion, Native Californians were enslaved in the new state from statehood in 1850 to 1867.
Military and civil resistance by Native Americans has been a constant feature of American history. So too have a variety of debates around issues of sovereignty, the upholding of treaty provisions, and the civil rights of Native Americans under U.S. law.
Hitler's concept of concentration camps as well as the practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English and United States history. He admired the camps for Boer prisoners in South Africa and for the Indians in the wild west; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America's extermination—by starvation and uneven combat—of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.
He was very interested in the way the Indian population had rapidly declined due to epidemics and starvation when the United States government forced them to live on the reservations. He thought the American government's forced migrations of the Indians over great distances to barren reservation land was a deliberate policy of extermination. Just how much Hitler took from the American example of the destruction of the Indian nations is hard to say; however, frightening parallels can be drawn. For some time Hitler considered deporting the Jews to a large 'reservation' in the Lubin area where their numbers would be reduced through starvation and disease.
Many Native Americans, Taino Indians, As Well As Many Others Such As The Latino Peoples, Are Lost Tribes Of The Nation Or Children Of Israel According To The Bible And Bible Prophecy (See Genesis) Along With The African Americans Or So Called Negroes That Served Slavery in America And Still Do In 2015, Peace to gocc iuic saneter tnnraw israelites hebrews truth isupk louis farrakhan boyce watkins paul butler cornell west and MANY others.
I saw an image from May 11, 1945, where German civilians were walking past bodies of 30 Jewish women starved to death by German SS troops in a 300-mile march across Czechoslovakia. It made me think about how The Long Walk of the Navajo was also 300-miles, and many of the Native Americans died of starvation.
I thought about how the Nazis were burning Jewish books and burying bodies in mass graves, and the parallels of how Indian cultures were also erased, libraries of oral tradition functionally burned, and many were buried in mass graves under bibles.
Wounded Knee, located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota,was the site of two conflicts between North American Indians and representatives of the U.S. government.An 1890 massacre left some 150 Native Americans dead, in what was the final clash between federal troops and the Sioux. In 1973,members of the American Indian Movement occupied Wounded Knee for 71 days to protest conditions on the reservation.
