The story follows a one-time bullied geek who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Dwayne Johnson), coming home for his high school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of the former “big man on campus” (Kevin Hart), now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers cruncher realizes what he’s getting into, it’s too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shootouts, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than he can count.

Richard Brody
The window-smashing and car-crashing offer some giddy surprises, but the ridiculous yet bland gunplay is as generic as the setup.
Katie Walsh
Doesn't have much going for it beyond its leading men, the leading men just might be worth the price of admission.
Stephanie Zacharek
No one can steal the show from Johnson and Hart. Their dual rhythms, alternately laid back and hyperactive, end up in a glorious and ridiculous kind of syncopation, unicornlike in its rarity and oddness.
James Berardinelli
With its canned, predictable action sequences and mirthless attempts at humor, it displays an ineptitude that is frankly shocking considering the talent involved.
Alison Willmore
The film has a firm grasp of Johnson's appeal as a leading man: He is Hollywood's most imposing ray of sunshine.
Bilge Ebiri
Central Intelligence won't blow you out of the theater, but you might be surprised at how well it works - how genuinely funny it is - given the familiarity of this concept.

This has a pretty good laugh quotient as far as big-budget action comedies go.
User reviews
Espionage comedy is almost a genre unto itself and I will be honest and say that Central Intelligence does not spice up the formula. With that said, I am a sucker for buddy comedy films, and -- shortcomings aside -- I thought Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart killed it. There are some hilarious scenes on display here. (I always love it when a movie rolls credits with bloopers. You get a real sense of the enjoyment the actors had.) Action scenes are lackluster, to say the least; however, the movie finds another way to invest the audience by making us question whom to trust, as Calvin (Hart) is dragged into confusing predicament after confusing predicament. And Hart plays this confusion amusingly. What really made the movie for me, though, is The Rock's character, Bob Stone, and the high school subplot that's built around the CIA stunt. In fact, the movie hooks with a flashback, and builds off from there; bringing the story full-circle by the end of the film by having Bob come to terms with a past demon. This subplot doesn't at all feel "shoe-horned" in. I went into this expecting nothing more than a simple-minded comedy, but actually got in it a surprising amount of depth.
WHY THE ATTACK ON CHRISTIANS???? WHY????????? Man this is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!! I HAVE SEEN 6 MOVIES STRAIGHT WITH ANTI CHRISTIAN THEMES AN INNUENDOS IN THEM. THIS IS SICK!!!!!! WOW!!!! Jason Bateman says He found God then says he is sorry, an asks for forgiveness, BUT ITS A SICK JOKE, THEN USES THE GD WORD. WOW...WAKE UP PEOPLE. DONT YOU FIND IT EXTREMELY ODD HOW EVERY HOLLYWOOD MOVIE ATTACKS CHRISTIANS. SATAN RUN HOLLYWOOD IS FOOLING YOU. ASK YOURSELF....WHY CANT HOLLYWOOD LEAVE OUT CHRISTIAN ATTACKS IN MOVIES?
I don't believe Dwayne Johnson has yet to make a good movie. When he started he was in good movies before he was the star of those movies. But really, for being such a mega star, all his movies are crap. This is OK. Kevin Hart annoys a lot of people and if you're one of those you better pass. Hart and the Rock make an OK pair and I actually enjoyed this though I don't think I can recommend it highly. If you want to turn off your brain cells and chuckle then rent this. If you want some depth, pass. I do think Johnson should do more comedies.
Thank You My movie buddy passed away 2 weeks ago and this was a movie on our list to see. I went alone to see it yesterday, and sat in the same place we normally do. It was such a fun movie, it raised my spirits so much and made me laugh so hard it helped me get thru the 1st time back to the movies since I lost my friend. I felt her there laughing with me. Great job guys, I hope there will be a C.I. 2!
Loved this Movie It was better than I thought it was, + my first rated pg-13 movie where it had Kevin heart in it. And sure it might say 69% for rotten tomatoes, but sometimes they get a little harsh on movies these days.
Better than expected It was interesting and kept me wondering who was the Black Badger but comical too. I liked it. Not enough to watch it a second time but it was better than I expected it to be. Kevin Hart is always funny but he toned down the cursing in this movie which made it more bearable for me. I can't stand his normal vulgar language. And I liked seeing The Rock play a goofball. It's unrealistic but endearingly humorous.
Seen it, done with it I saw this for the first time in theaters. At first glance there was the minimal amount of funny moments for a Kevin Hart movie. In reality, he funnier when he can do what he wants in an R rated movie. Drawne Johnson was just creepy and wierd throughout the movie. If I saw this again, I'm sure I would not laugh at all since I know all of the 10 actually funny parts of the movie.
I couldn't even finish it I love Kevin Hart he always makes me laugh, and Dwayne Johnson is a great actor overall and usually embodies his roles. It would've been funnier if the roles were reversed. I just couldn't take them serious, The Rock being the funny one and Kevin being all serious. It was uncomfortable to watch them in the roles they were playing, it made no sense. Kevin is so funny and Dwayne is such a great actor, why mess with a good thing??
Not recommended. I expected a good comedy movie with actors like The Rock and Kevin Hart, but it tried too hard to be funny. Just like every other comedy coming out this year, the exaggerations killed it.
Funny if.... You are able to tolerate the guy in the group who wants all the attention and doesn't care how dumb he has to act to get it. That's basically the rock's character in this one. I know he is better than that, improv would have been an improvement. Few good moments followed by many more you wish they took out. Honesty sucks sometimes! How did this get over 4 stars lmao
I loved this movie, it was funny as fack!!! It's good to see that the Rock could play a creepy character, that's how he was suppose to act - great job- Kevin was playing a more serious role, a cool down from what he usually plays, but these two together are hilarious. It was funny, serious, excitable, weird, kept me guessing who the whole time about who was the black badger was, plus....come on ladies, the rock was beautiful to look at! I really hope there is a part 2 or another movie with these two in it together.
Dont understand the hype I was looking forward to this movie for a while and sooo many ppl told me "how funny" it was but I gotta say I didn't find it funny and I love both the rock and Kevin...a much funnier movie in my opinion was Get Hard it got much worse reviews but I found it much funnier!
Laugh out loud They are so good together, hooe they make another film together.
Incongruous Seems like this movie tried to "break out" of a genre or fit into too many of them. I don't regret watching it, but I wouldn't recommend it, either.
Rock ain't the Same Okay story. I was able to check my emails and watch the movie at the same time. A little bit of a yawn. But some good parts. Really stupid ending.
Nothing to rush out for Not all that great. Some funny moments, but definitely not constantly. Not Dwayne's best role by any means.
Funny but.... In My opinion this is a okay movie but its not as good as i thought it would be. The Rock keeps You guessing. And he's funny as hell but Kevin Hart is just there....if you seen any other Kevin Hart movie you know how he acts.....he's Funnier in ride Along 1.
it was so good that i had to walk out. rotten tomatoes is garbage just like this movie.
Dwayne Johnson & Kevin Heart pairing made it funny. Alot of silly acting.
Great Duo I really liked this comedy. They make a great team. Of course there are plot holes and it feels a little rushed. Overall good movie to rent
Lmfbo 😂😂😂 I laughed so hard in the movie theater my stomach hurt. I love Dwayne n Hart together. Better than bad boys. I plan on going back to the theaters to see it.
Wow This movie had me dying! Definitely a buddy comedy, some parts had me literally crying laughing so hard.
Terrible Too cheesy. The Rock's character is to over the top. If it was just a cover for an operation then it would have been fine. But I waited the whole movie to realize it was just his character.
Hilarious Way to much swearing for PG-13, but laugh out loud funny. Excellent performance by the Rock and Kevin Heart.
Eh I enjoyed the movie. The humor was great. But at times I thought it was too silly. At times I thought Dwaynes character was too weird and I liked Kevins character but I cant take the movie seriously even when its trying to be serious. The plot was great, the scripting was pretty good. I liked how most of the story went and the plot twist towards the end was a mind rape.
Central intelligence I laughed from beginning to end it was really funny!!!
Central intelligence Boring!!!! All the funny parts are shown in the preview
Rent I made the mistake of buying this. While it is some what funny, it's not worth the $9.99. I'll never watch it again. Rent for sure, but don't buy. The only reason why it's funny is because of Kevin Hart.
Contains some chuckles Solid flick because The Rock and Kevin Hart are really great in it (especially The Rock). Not "lol" funny although it had its moments, but still a good comedy to rent on a rainy day.
IF you're looking must, Like something or just to give money to him/ I do same f@@king thing he's a Geniuses. .$$
Its not the funniest Its not funny like most of kevin heart movies and the scrip was meant for white boys so its a little weird
Funniest movie ever When it first came on I started laughing until the end first came on I started laughing and couldn't stop barely could even breathe.
Nothing intelligent about it. Story had potential but just ended up as a ball of cheese dipped in senseless awkwardness and tasteless dialogue.
Funny I always thought this movie would be funny based on how I liked the trailer. Luckily, I was right. This movie was pretty funny. I really liked the unexpected chemistry that Johnson and Hart had. I thought that the story always kept me interested and hooked. My only complaint was that at points, the movie seemed like it was coming to an end but it still had ways to go. I would rate this movie an 8 out of 10 and would highly recommend you check this movie out.
Awsome asf Tbh I didn't like it at first but it was great
Dwayne Johnson is the man! To see him play this role was awesome and the low side of this movie the other actor's were lame Kevin Heart was cool but the other's really made me want to mute the tv... nice try casting crew
