Sang is the pinyin romanization of the Chinese surname 桑 (Sāng). A variant traditional form is 桒. Both forms were unlisted among the Song-era Hundred Family Surnames.
Sang is also the romanization of the Korean surname 상 derived from the Chinese surname Chang.
Sang was unlisted among the 100-most-common surnames in mainland China in 2007 or on Taiwan in 2005. It was the 16,712nd most common name in America during the 2000 US Census.

There are 35 hanja with the reading "sang" on the South Korean government's official list of hanja which may be registered for use in given names; common ones are listed in the table at right.

Hokuto Shinken (北斗神拳 Big Dipper God Fist) is an ancient Chinese martial art, dating back 1800 years from China. Its founder was Shuken of the ancient "Hokuto Sōke" ruling line, who combined his Hokuto Sōke no Ken and Seito Gek Ken to create Hokuto Shin Ken. Many bizarre and strange stories have come from North Korea. One of the more truly strange stories is of the abduction of Shin Sang-ok and Choi Eun-hee. Who were taken against their will to the hermit kingdom, and forced to create movies for Kim Jon Il. Somehow this bizarre story lead to a very entertaining film showing an allegory for capitalism’s greed in the shape of a godzilla rip off, a copy of which is in my dvd collection named Pulgasari.
