A former senior public servant has hit back at comments from the Immigration Minister Peter Dutton that Australia is now paying for mistakes former prime minister Malcolm Fraser made in letting certain people into the country. In a television interview Mr Dutton said Malcolm Fraser made mistakes in bringing some people in to Australia the 1970s and we are seeing that today. Mr Dutton said many foreign fighters getting involved in conflict zones were the children or grandchildren of migrants that came during the 1970s. More

Europe's largest carmaker Volkswagen is preparing to cut 30,000 jobs from its global workforce. The company wants to boost profits and lift productivity, but it's is still facing billions of dollars in fines and settlements as a result a damaging emissions cheating scandal involving its diesel cars. Volkswagen says it plans to invest in the development of new lines of electric and self-driving cars and wants to introduce more than 30 electric-powered vehicles by 2025. More

Security concerns have been raised over plans to install Chinese owned technology on a powerful supercomputer used by government agencies and Australian universities. The innovative computing infrastructure is based at the Australian National University in Canberra which says it's satisfied the IT equipment is safe and has passed stringent reviews. But US defence officials have recently raised concerns with Lenovo, the Chinese company involved. More

As Australia, the US and Britain flag further company tax cuts, questions are being asked whether multinational BHP Billiton is blurring the line between tax avoidance and tax evasion. Former Treasurer Wayne Swan has told Saturday AM the Australian Government must tighten up its laws on multinationals using offshore low tax hubs. It comes as the taxation commissioner investigates how BHP and other big companies are declaring their profits in offshore hubs. More
