Micronesia (from Greek: μικρός, mikrós, "small" + Greek: νῆσος, nisos, "island") is a subregion of Oceania, comprising thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It has a shared cultural history with two other island regions, Polynesia to the east and Melanesia to the south.
The region has a tropical marine climate, and is part of the Oceania ecozone. There are four main archipelagos along with numerous outlying islands.
Micronesia is divided politically among several sovereign countries. One of these is the Federated States of Micronesia, which is usually also called "Micronesia" for short and is not to be confused with the overall region. Aside from the Federated States of Micronesia, the Micronesia region encompasses four other sovereign, independent nations—Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, and Palau—as well as three U.S. territories—Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and Wake Island.
Micronesia began to be settled several millennia ago, although there are competing theories about the origin and arrival of the first settlers. The earliest known contact with Europeans occurred in 1521, when Ferdinand Magellan reached the Marianas. The coinage of the term "Micronesia" is usually attributed to Jules Dumont d'Urville's usage in 1832, however Domeny de Rienzi had used the term a year previously.

Random videos from my 2 years living on a tiny island. This video is driving to town, Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federates States of Micronesia
English/Nat While French Polynesia is coping with the after effects of French nuclear testing, another corner of the Pacific is facing a different kind of fallout from its colonial past The end of the Cold War has left the Federated States of Micronesia facing a drastic reduction in its economic base as the U-S ends decades of budget support -- part of a deal which has allowed the U-S military access to the region. In response, Micronesia is holding the largest summit in its history in an attempt to face the coming crunch head on. This is the island paradise of Micronesia -- a federation of 607 Pacific islands scattered across one thousand miles, home to about 100,000 people. The name means "little islands". It's a classic tropical paradise: sun, palm trees and the ocean ...
Here is the inside the economy cabin of a Continental Airlines Micronesia Boeing 737-700. Notice instread of English and Spanish like Continental Mainline. It is in English and Japanese. Also these aircraft have drop down monitors because DirecTV doesn't work out there. This was taken in Guam.
United Airlines UA 154 from Honolulu to Guam via Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Chuuk on a B737-800 (N14240). This is a video report detailing the entire trip. An amazing adventure through the other side of the pacific, that will surely never be forgotten! A second version of this video with different music.

http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com It's not secret that Marine Steve (husband) and I stick to United Airlines like glue even when their schedule may not be the most convenient. Why? Because of the perks once a passenger reaches an upper tier, evidenced by an upgrade from Economy to Business Class on the return from Frankfurt. Flights in both directions were on a Boeing 777, sister to an Asiana plane that had crashed two weeks prior to this outgoing flight. Asked if I was nervous by others, the answer is an emphatic "No"! We've been flying 777s for years, a very safe aircraft. Good seats in Economy, fast flight from Chicago O'Hare International Airport over to Frankfurt, Germany, and a blissful return in Business Class from Frankfurt back to Chicago two-weeks later. There's nothing like a B...

http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com It's hard to believe that Marine Steve and I have never visited Ireland before, but let's rectify that! Easy United Airlines flights from Chicago to Newark on a 737, followed by a 757-200 from Newark to Dublin. United really has to retire these old, junky planes with only one aisle, minimal Business Class seats, and three seats on each side. The best that can be said about flying Economy Class is to try to get the Emergency Row Exit seats with lots of room. Oh, who cares. We were only our way to Dublin with refrains of Molly Malone circling brains like a gerbil on its exercise wheel. Keep watching this series on Ireland as Steve and I walk the Kerry Way long distance path; quite an experience and walk through Dublin.
Good day mates! Glad you once more made it to one of my reviews! First of all thank you for watching, I hope you enjoy! Just a bit of information about this review: During my last California vacation last september I got the chance to fly United Airlines domestic business class for the very first time. They offered a great deal and luckily one of those domestic flights was operated by a Boeing dreamliner, which in my opinion is one of the best looking and comfortable planes to fly these days. The good thing about a long haul aircraft on a domestic route is that you get the full business class experience, with all lie flat seats, great IFE and superb service. This isn't the case on their 737's.. United has a pretty decent business class and the FA's tried hard to make the flight as enjoyab...

English/Nat In Asia and the Pacific, the mention of the words massage parlor brings to mind images of the region's rampant sex industry and the problems associated with it. But in the tiny Pacific nation of Micronesia, massage is a traditional form of healing. Efforts are now being made to revive the ancient art of massage and blend Western and traditional healing. This man's broken foot is being treated in a Western-style medical clinic in Micronesia. This woman's weight and stress problems are being treated in a massage parlour. There's nothing risque about this massage - locals and tourists alike come here to be rejuvenated by the healing power of these hands. On the day I went away... goodbye...
Was all I had to say... now I...
I want to come again and stay... Oh my my...
Smile, and that will mean that I may
Cause I've seen blue skies, through the tears
In my eyes
And I realise.. I'm going home.
Everywhere it's been the same... feeling...
Like I'm outside in the rain... wheeling...
Free, to try and find a game... dealing...
Cards for sorrow, cards for pain
Cause I've seen blue skies through the tears
In my eyes
And I realise.. I'm going home.
