Iraqi Special Forces have launched an assault on a Mosul district as part of their operation to liberate the city from Daesh Takfiri terrorists.
Army officials say the troops are advancing in the city while the terrorists try to stop them with rocket-propelled grenades. The battle is underway near a residential neighborhood named Gog-jali in Mosul’s southeast. Fighting is also raging on in the south west of the city, where Popular Mobilization Forces are battling Daesh. They managed to recapture another village on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Iraqi prime minister has called on the terrorists in Mosul to surrender.

Iraq -- "Operation Conquest" Heavy fighting erupts as Iraqi troops advance on Mosul. Iraqi Forces are inside Mosul for the first time since ISIS took control of the city in June 2014. Iraqi special forces launched a two-pronged assault deeper into Mosul's urban center on Friday, unleashing the most intense street battles against Islamic State militants since the offensive began nearly three weeks ago. Smoke rose across eastern neighborhoods of Iraq's second-largest city as heavy fighting continued after sundown, with explosions and machine gun fire echoing in the streets.
More than 3,000 Iraqi troops took part in the assault under heavy U.S.-led coalition air support, but the pace of the fight also slowed as Iraqi forces moved from fighting in more rural areas with few civilians to the tight, narrow streets of Mosul proper. Sniper fire repeatedly stalled the advance, as commanders called in airstrikes or artillery support after coming under fire.
As the operation got underway, columns of armored vehicles wound through the desert, pushing through dirt berms and drawing heavy fire as they closed in on the middle-class Tahrir and Zahara districts. The area was once named after former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Seven suicide attackers in explosives-laden vehicles barreled toward the troops, with two getting through and detonating their charges, Lt. Col. Muhanad al-Timimi told The Associated Press. The others were destroyed, including a bulldozer that was hit by an airstrike from the U.S.-led coalition supporting the offensive.

Iraqi Army
The Iraqi Army is the ground force component of the armed forces of the Republic of Iraq, having been active in various incarnations throughout the 20th century and 21st century.
The Iraqi Army in its modern form was first created by the United Kingdom during the inter-war period of de facto British control of Mandatory Iraq. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Army was rebuilt along American lines with enormous amounts of U.S. military assistance at every level. Because of the Iraqi insurgency that began shortly after the invasion, the Iraqi Army was designed to initially be a counter-insurgency force. With the US withdrawal in December 2011, Iraqi forces have assumed full responsibility for security. A New York Times article suggested that, between 2004 and 2014, the USA had provided the Iraqi Army with $25billion in training and equipment in addition to an even larger sum from the Iraqi treasury.
History
The threat of war with newly forming Republic of Turkey, which claimed the Ottoman vilayet of Mosul as part of their country, led the British to form the Iraqi Army on 6 January 1921. The Mussa Al-Kadhum Brigade consisted of ex-Iraqi-Ottoman officers, whose barracks were located in Kadhimyah. The United Kingdom provided support and training to the Iraqi Army and the Iraqi Air Force through a small military mission based in Baghdad. Iraqi Army Day celebrates the soldiers that fight for Iraq.

Iraqi Special Forces have launched an assault on a Mosul district as part of their operation to liberate the city from Daesh Takfiri terrorists.
Army officials say the troops are advancing in the city while the terrorists try to stop them with rocket-propelled grenades. The battle is underway near a residential neighborhood named Gog-jali in Mosul’s southeast. Fighting is also raging on in the south west of the city, where Popular Mobilization Forces are battling Daesh. They managed to recapture another village on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Iraqi prime minister has called on the terrorists in Mosul to surrender.

Iraq -- "Operation Conquest" Heavy fighting erupts as Iraqi troops advance on Mosul. Iraqi Forces are inside Mosul for the first time since ISIS took control of the city in June 2014. Iraqi special forces launched a two-pronged assault deeper into Mosul's urban center on Friday, unleashing the most intense street battles against Islamic State militants since the offensive began nearly three weeks ago. Smoke rose across eastern neighborhoods of Iraq's second-largest city as heavy fighting continued after sundown, with explosions and machine gun fire echoing in the streets.
More than 3,000 Iraqi troops took part in the assault under heavy U.S.-led coalition air support, but the pace of the fight also slowed as Iraqi forces moved from fighting in more rural areas with few civilians to the tight, narrow streets of Mosul proper. Sniper fire repeatedly stalled the advance, as commanders called in airstrikes or artillery support after coming under fire.
As the operation got underway, columns of armored vehicles wound through the desert, pushing through dirt berms and drawing heavy fire as they closed in on the middle-class Tahrir and Zahara districts. The area was once named after former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Seven suicide attackers in explosives-laden vehicles barreled toward the troops, with two getting through and detonating their charges, Lt. Col. Muhanad al-Timimi told The Associated Press. The others were destroyed, including a bulldozer that was hit by an airstrike from the U.S.-led coalition supporting the offensive.

Iraq War 2016 - Iraqi Forces In Heavy Clashes With ISIS During Intense Combat Action In The Battle For Fallujah.
The Iraqi Army, Iraqi Special Forces, Iraqs Federal Police and Iraqi paramilitary units of Iraqs Popular Mobilizition Forces released footage of them launching a major offensive against the ISIS held town of Fallujah.
The video shows Iraqi forces in heavy clashes, fighting and firefights during intense combat action in and outside the town during the recent Iraqi assault in order to capture Fallujah from ISIS fighters.
The offensive was a full sucess and Iraqi troops managed it to gain back the control over Fallujah after months of fighting.
The Battle of Fallujah (2016), also referred to as Third Battle of Fallujah,[ or Fallujah offensive (2016), code-named Operation Breaking Terrorism (Arabic: عملية كسر الإرهاب) by the Iraqi government, was a military operation against ISIL launched to capture the city of Fallujah and its suburbs, located about 69 kilometers (40 miles) west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The operation began on 22 May 2016, three months after the Iraqi forces had started the total siege of Fallujah. On 26 June, Iraqi forces recaptured the city of Fallujah, before recapturing the remaining pocket of ISIS resistance in Fallujah's western outskirts two days later.
Fallujah was the first city seized by ISIS in Iraq in January 2014. Iraqi forces completely surrounded the western city after they recaptured Ramadi in February 2016. ISIS militants prevented people from leaving the city.
Fallujah is considered tohave been the second most important stronghold of ISIS in Iraq, after Mosul.
The defeat of the Islamic State in this region can be seen as a major defeat for the group.
Combat started outside the site with Iraqi Special Forces and Popular Mobilization units carefully fighting their way towards the city before fierce urban combat action and heavy clashes started inside the town backed by Iraqi Mi-24 Hind and Mi-28 Havoc helicopters and several other Iraqi aircraft pounding ISIS positions while Iraqi Federal Police units and forces of the Iraqi Army were conducting operations inside the town aswell.

While Iraqi and Kurdish forces supported by international coalition forces launched a major offensive in order to retake the city for Mosul from the Islamic State, ISIS itself launched an sudden attack on the Kurdish held city of Kirkuk.
Heavy clashes and urban combat have been reported to have taken place there and the video footage you see here released by Kurdish news outlets shows Kurdish Special Forces and Milita in heavy clashes, fighting and firefights.
The battle started after ISIS fighters slipped into Kirkuk the night before last Saturday and may have been joined by sleeper cells.
After that heavy urban clashes broke out.
Clashes are still ongoing but it seems Kurdish forces have the upper hand and the situation is mostly under control.
However Kurdish officials allready stated that ISIS attack was in vain and the recent combat in Kirkuk will have not the slightest impact on the battle for Mosul.

Iraq's Prime Minister says government forces and their allies will retake control of Mosul by the end of the year.
It's been an effective summer for Iraqi forces battling ISIL.
Now, they're fighting to retake Iraq's second biggest city - Mosul - which has been under ISIL control for more than two years.
The Iraqi army, Kurdish forces, Shia militias and the US air force are all converging on the city from different directions.
Iraqi soldiers re-took Qayara on Saturday. It's an oil-producing town that's about 70 kilometres south of Mosul, and near a major air base. The Iraqi army had been fighting for control of Qayara for several weeks.
Now, Prime Minister Haider al Abadi says Mosul will be captured by the end of the year.
So, how ready are government forces? and what does the offensive mean for a united Iraq? and ISIL?
