Istria (/ˈɪstriə/; Croatian, Slovene: Istra; Italian: Istria; Istriot: Eîstria; German: Istrien), formerly Histria (Latin), is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. The peninsula is located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Kvarner Gulf. It is shared by three countries: Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy.
The geographical features of Istria include the Učka mountain ridge, which is the highest portion of the Ćićarija mountain range; the rivers Dragonja, Mirna, Pazinčica, and Raša; and the Lim bay and valley. Istria lies in three countries: Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. By far the largest portion (89%) lies in Croatia. "Croatian Istria" is divided into two counties, the larger being Istria County in western Croatia. Important towns in Istria County include Pula/Pola, Poreč/Parenzo, Rovinj//Rovigno, Pazin//Pisino, Labin/Albona, Umag/Umago, Motovun//Montona, Buzet/Pinguente, and Buje/Buie. Smaller towns in Istria County include Višnjan, Roč, and Hum.
The heart-shaped peninsula reaching deep into the clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea is a hidden garden of beauty which opens the door to the sunny and warm Mediterranean. Come and travel through it without hesitation, and the holiday of your dreams will become reality. Multicultural and hospitable, this is an area where wide-ranging diversities have come together to form a happy union. Istria's crystal clear sea, clean shores and ports, its lively fishing boats and teeming narrow stone streets exude the true charm of the Mediterranean. Small, picturesque medieval towns perched on the peaks of its hills emanate the peace and gentleness of landscapes that irresistibly evoke the most beautiful parts of Tuscany or Provence. The Croatian coast, with its unique beauty, characteristic seaside towns, warm, sunny weather, colorful bays, lush, green vegetation, interesting historical monuments is one of the most enticing parts of the Mediterranean. The gem of this magnificent area is the Istrian-peninsula, which is, because of its proximity, one of the most beloved traveling objectives of Hungarian tourists. Its rugged coast hides beautiful bays, and beaches. From among the many sceneries stand out Porec, famous of its mosaics, Pula, with its Roman amphitheatre, Vrsas, showing us a great sight to the islands, and Opatija and Rovinj, which unify the mood of the monarchy and sight of an exclusive beach. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us.
Like the rest of the Croatian coast, Rovinj was part of the Venetian Empire for centuries. And Istria remained part of Italy until after WWII. That's why this region is enthusiastically bi-lingual and an engaging mix of Croatia and Italy. The Slovenian-Croatian peninsula of Istria is one of Europe‘s oldest settlement areas, the Pearl Of Adria with an eventful history and much multicultural flair; a rich interface between both Mediterranean and mediaeval cultures. In Koper, Istria’s economic centre and most important harbour city, the Old Town can be entered through the last remaining twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. In its heyday the city boomed with wine, oil, salt and fish and many merchants and craftsmen from Italy settled there and the Palazzo Belgramoni Tacco became the region‘s museum. The mediaeval town of Piran is located on a narrow promontory that juts out into Piran Bay like the bow of a ship. On a cliff above the old town is the Sanct George Church, and a bell tower on the town’s fortified w...

Vacation travel video about destination Koper in Istria. Koper is a major harbour city in Istria which is located on the Slovenian Riviera. The old town can be entered through the last of the twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. A stone coat of arms, various reliefs and inscriptions highlight the long history of the city in which for five hundred years Venetian rule shaped its destiny. An archway in the Praetorian Palace leads to a classic Venetian square, the Titov Trg which dates back to the fifteenth century. The Piazza is one of the most beautiful Venetian squares of the entire Adriatic region and the cathedral which frames the square has numerous architectural styles. Travel video about destination Porec in Croatia. Poreć is picturesquely situated on a peninsula in the north of Croatia‘s Istrian coast. At first glance it appears to be a typical holiday paradise visited by thousands of tourists each year but its Town Hall offers a hint of its historic past, the traditional style of Venetian Renaissance. In 1267, Poreć, as Istria’s first city, was affiliated to the Serenissima and with the subsequent construction of palaces, squares and religious buildings, it soon took on a Venetian appearance which has remained until the present day. The harbour’s traditional buildings date back to the time of the fall of Venice and when the city came under Austrian rule. In Roman times the Old Town had an efficient road network. Poreć’s main street, Decumanus, divid...
Travel video about destination Rovinj in Croatia. The historic centre of Rovinj is located on a shell-shaped peninsula on Istria’s Mediterranean coastline in the north of Croatia. Seen from the sea it is one of the most stunning of the Adriatic’s port cities, harmonious and compact, a perfect cityscape. In the eighteenth century the city’s inhabitants built their basilica according to the plans of Venetian architect, Giovanni Dozzi, on the foundation of a previous Romanesque building. The bright interior of the imposing three-nave basilica contains splendid architecture, fine ceiling paintings and altars. Although Rovinj fell for a long time under the protection of the naval power of Venice, it was still haunted by the Genoese, pirates and pestilence, but the city managed to survive all o...
Vacation travel video about destination Piran in Adriatic’s Istrian. High up on the cliffs of the Adriatic’s Istrian Coast are the remains of a city wall. The wall was built in the fifteenth century in order to protect against the Turks who were attempting to reach the peninsula from the mainland. Their goal was the Venetian maritime town of Piran, the most beautiful place on the Slovenian Riviera, an enchanting mediaeval town. The charm and flair of old alleys reflect the history of this idyllic town whose origin dates back to the fifth century. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Slavs, a German Emperor, the Venetians and the Habsburgs, they all wanted this town and it prospered accordingly. For more than five centuries the town was under Venetian rule, a time when it took on the form which we see t...
Gotta way to, fill the spaces
Fill the spaces that we once knew
Gotta way to, fill the spaces
Fill the spaces that we went through
I'll be goin' to the company store
I'll be hangin' with my old friends
I'll be goin' to the company store
As with my problems they will end
Gotta way to, hear the laughter
Hear the laughter that we once knew
Gotta way to, feel the feelings
Feel the feelings that you put me through
I'll build a rocket to fly across in
Fly across the trouble we know, yeah
I'll find my freedom, and with my freedom
I'll go wherever I choose yes
I don't wanna hear the voices
I don't wanna leave again
One good pass and I'll be gone from here
One good run and I'll be free
Got a rocket, in my pocket
Don't think I'll turn anyone in
It's my one thing, it's my one thing
I believe it can get me through yes
I'll refine it, they'll refine it
From this one horse town I know yeah
Get out of jail, with the bail here
