Over three days last week, at least 150 blacks attacked whites at random around TempleUniversity. Victims were surrounded, punched and kicked. Wallets and phones were stolen. Rocks were thrown at passing cars. When cops showed up, one was knocked from her bike and a police horse was even punched twice in the muzzle.
Most of the assaults took place on Friday. On Saturday, Joe Lauletta, a father of one victim, reported on FaceBook:
I spent last night in the ER at St. Mary’s HospitaI. I received a call from my daughter Christina after my sons football game. She was crying, I couldn’t understand her, my heart dropped, I became scared, I said what is the matter? Dad, I was jumped, I’m beat up pretty bad. Where r u? Temple, they stole my phone. We’re heading to the police station. I do not hear from her until she gets to her apartment. Rage is running through my mind the whole time. She said she is getting a ride home and wants to go to St. Mary’s. I find out that her and her 2 male friends where badly beaten by a group of 30-40 black teenagers on their way home from the Temple football game. This happened after they got off the subway at Broad and Cecil B Moore. These sick animals held her down and kicked and stomped on her repeatedly. Thank god, the people from the pizza place intervened. They arrested 2 people at the scene. I have not let Christina out of my sight, she is resting. Every part of her body is badly bruised, it makes me cry just thinking about it. No broken bones. If you have children at Temple, tell them to be careful. Please keep Christina Lauletta in your thoughts.
CBS Philadelphia describes another victim’s ordeal:
He says around 9:30 Friday night he was leaving work when he saw what looked to be at least 200 juveniles walking in large groups.He said he overheard police saying the kids were playing the knockout game.
He says a juvenile around 10 years old started shouting obscenities at him and grabbed his phone out of his hand. The student says the juvenile then came back and threw the phone at him, striking him in the face.
Around 15 minutes later, the student says he was walking with his girlfriend when they were approached by at least seven juveniles. The student says he went to hit the TemplePolice alert button when his girlfriend was struck by one of the juveniles.
As the student was chasing them away, he says he was struck in the face by a someone he estimates to be eight years old.
This is not new. In 2014, five black girls, aged 17, 15, 15, 15 and 14, committed three separate attacks on random white people at TempleUniversity. Struck across the face with a brick, a 19-year-old white student suffered a fractured jaw and nearly had her teeth knocked out. Her 15-year-old assailant, Zaria Estes, was given a 2 ½-6 year sentence.
Across America, gangs of blacks have beaten random people for decades, just for the sport of it. This cathartic recreation has been dubbed wilding, catch and wreck, knock out game or flash mob, and it can happen at parks, shopping malls, state fairs or even your living room.
In 2012, a mentally-handicapped woman was relaxing on her stoop in Chester, just outside Philadelphia, when she was attacked by six black teenaged girls. When the terrified woman tried to flee inside, they rushed into her living room to continue the savage beating. Had these girls not posted their exhilarating workout on FaceBook, they might never have been caught.
A white bartender at my neighborhood dive was attacked, just outside her front door, by a group of black kids around 12 years old. After throwing a rock at her head and knocking her down, they kicked her a few times as she curled up on the ground, then they scattered. “Just like that, it was over. All I could do was go inside and cry.”
Not surprisingly, the latest incident at TempleUniversity has received scant media attention. Though AP did cover it, it never pointed out that these were racial crimes. As usual, only “teens” are fingered, with their race not mentioned. Had mobs of whites attacked random blacks, the entire world would have known about it by now.
Locally, a black writer editorializes in the Philadelphia Inquirer that gentrification is ultimately responsible. In “BehindTemple attacks, rage often comes with exclusion,” Solomon Jones explains:
In a city where poverty is concentrated outside the universities, we can’t truly expect the poor to watch jobs and wealth and excess pass them by without any reaction at all.
To be sure, violence is the wrong response. And the kids who engaged in it will surely be prosecuted, as they should be.
But I believe those teens are expressing something that has long simmered beneath the surface. They are expressing the rage that comes with exclusion. They are expressing the hurt that comes with invisibility. They are engaged in the inevitable push and pull of change.
TempleUniversity, my alma mater, has reached out to the community with scholarships for local youth, according to spokesman Ray Betzner. They’ve put reading programs in place, tutored high schoolers and even talked to their own students about respecting longtime community residents. But Temple would be wise to reach out into the community with an eye toward creating stronger relationships and greater opportunities for the young people who’ve been pushed aside by a generation of exclusionary development.
The community would be wise to reach back.
So these attackers are among “people who’ve been pushed aside by a generation of exclusionary development.” Like many urban universities, Temple is surrounded by black ghettos, but these are being gentrified thanks to a steady influx of white suburbanites and immigrants.
If you’re barely treading water, and your rent jacks up because of gentrification, you’ll be pissed too. Who wants to be evicted? Blacks, though, are always the victims, and never agents, of any neighborhood’s improvement. Why is that?
In Detroit, a post-apocalypse ghetto of burnt out houses, gutted factories and urban raccoons, Mexicans revived a section near downtown. Unlike the rest of Detroit, there are plenty of restaurants and shops in Mexicantown, and it’s perfectly safe to walk around.
If there were fewer Mexicans, blacks would have more jobs, obviously, so why are our borders wide open? In “Race and Crime in America,” Ron Unz suggests that Hispanics are being imported to replace blacks. They can do the same jobs, sans mayhem. In 1992, East Palto had the highest murder rate in all of America. Then a transformation happened as Hispanics flooded in. Ron Unz:
Over the last twenty years, the homicide rate in that small city dropped by 85%, with similar huge declines in other crime categories as well, thereby transforming a miserable ghetto into a pleasant working-class community, now featuring new office complexes, luxury hotels, and large regional shopping centers. Multi-billionaire Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife recently purchased a large $9 million home just a few hundred feet from the East Palo Alto border, a decision that would have been unthinkable during the early 1990s.
The more blacks there are in a neighborhood, the more crimes, the lower the housing values and the more dysfunctional the public schools, and everyone knows this, including, say, a fresh-off-the-boat immigrant from Mali or Bangladesh. Black maladaptation is only getting worse.
What you have, then, is a group that will largely be excluded from better jobs, universities and housing. As long as the United States shall last, blacks will be an underclass. Their symbolic successes, as in having a half-black president, can’t gloss over the fact that the majority of them are barely afloat.
The in-state tuition for TempleUniversity is $15,688, and the school accepts 56% of its applicants. It’s reasonably priced and easy to get in. Only 13.1% of Temple students are black, however, in a city with 44.1% blacks. Before you charge racism, do consider what Walter Williams has to say:
Among high-school students who graduated in 2014 and took the ACT college readiness exam, here’s how various racial/ethnic groups fared when it came to meeting the ACT’s college readiness benchmarks in at least three of the four subjects: Asians, 57 percent; whites, 49 percent; Hispanics, 23 percent; and blacks, 11 percent. However, the college rates of enrollment of these groups were: Asians, 80 percent; whites, 69 percent; Hispanics, 60 percent; and blacks, 57 percent.
Though all races are being admitted to college too liberally, blacks benefit the most, for only 1/5th of blacks in universities should even be there. Feeling out of place, blacks across the country are demanding separate dormitories.
Blacks are also given preferred treatment when it comes to government jobs and contracts, so the academy, state and media are all in their favor, yet their failures have only increased.
In Ethnic America, Thomas Sowell observes, “The [black] race as a whole has moved from a position of utter destitution—in money, knowledge, and rights—to a place alongside other groups emerging in the great struggles of life. None have had to come from so far back to join their fellow Americans.”
Having achieved not just civic equality but, at times, even favored treatment, blacks still often find themselves on the losing end of life’s struggles. If you dare to suggest that individual blacks should bear at least some responsibilities for their failures, however, you will be branded a racist.
So I’m a racist for writing this, Walter Williams is a racist for pointing out that most blacks attending college shouldn’t be there, and Joe Lauletta is a racist for calling his daughter’s attackers “sick animals.” Everyone is a racist except those 150+ blacks who attacked whites unprovoked.
To many black apologists, blacks can’t be guilty of anything, be it murder, rape, a brick across your face or even racism, because everything they do is just a response to relentless white racism. I’ll insist, though, that these black apologists are the worst racists of all, because to deny someone of moral agency is to reduce him to an animal.
As for the media, their steady suppression or excuse of black misbehavior is an encouragement of even worse. This has to be intentional. They’re enabling more riots, more catch and wrecks, more knock out games.
Teaching in Germany, I showed my students the Philadelphia Police Department’s YouTube channel, without comments. One video after another had a black person assaulting or robbing somebody. When a Hispanic criminal suddenly appeared in the 9th video or so, some students couldn’t help but grin, for they were fleetingly spared of the monotony.
Since the students wanted to learn about the US, I gave them an authentic, unedited glimpse. At their local cinema, Straight Out of Compton was playing. It’s very cool to act black in Germany.
Of course, black apologists will claim that American blacks only rob because they’re oppressed and poor, though I don’t see how this explains the 22,000+ black-on-white rapes/sexual assaults reported yearly, as compared to zero white-on-black sexual attacks. (See table 42 of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Victimization in the United States reports for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, the last year available.) Oh yes, white women are so fetishized, blacks can’t help but rape them. None of them can help doing anything, I get it. What a gross insult this is to decent blacks.
Again, to deny someone of moral agency is to reduce him to an animal.

I was having dinner with a few of "liberal" university professors, who were all taking about the joys of "multiculturalism" and Hillary Clinton.

The truth is that left wing parties throughout the west have used grievance whether racial, or religious or gender based, or simple scaremongering over climate to seize power by promoting themselves as the party of fairness and equality.
It's all a sham of course and it has created many victims.
White women have done ok, although most don't have babies and have swapped a life of relative ease and meaning for an office job and no kids.
Black women have done very poorly although at least they have children, paid for by the state and often to multiple unemployed fathers.
Black men have done very poorly no one will hire them or marry them.

Blacks have an amorphous itch that they can’t identify or scratch. Locally, after a long battle to gain access to “white” schools, there’s now pressure from blacks for more people who look like them. So why would you go to a predominately white school for this. And there has been resegregation in D.C. to a black museum and a National one for the rest of us. Sammy Davis’ shoes go to the black one and Judy Garland’s slippers go to the National museum.

Off Topic. I’m curious if there are stereotypes about differences in appearance among Vietnamese. I knew some foreign students from Vietnam in high school, and they had eyes that were semi-rounded and darker skin, almost like what I would expect from Burmese or Assamese. However, the Vietnamese (and other Indochinese) immigrants I’ve met seem to look like what most Americans would probably think of when “Asian” comes to mind: very slender eyelids and light yellow-ish skin.

She seems to have been toying with the American middlebrow, who couldn’t see they were being mocked. Photos of naked black men with outsized endowments are no more Nazi than the Busby Berkeley extravaganza she also says displays a national socialist aesthetic. US used to be based on white supremacy that justified wars of conquest against American Indians and slavery of blacks.
But once America gave up on White Supremacy, white folks are mostly about White Security. They can’t help but realize that blacks commit a lot of crime and too often talk/act like thugs.

Originally, Vietnam was just its northern part, so it’s like a funnel, with China right over it. The central part was Champa, a Muslim kingdom now swallowed up by the Vietnamese. The south belonged to Cambodia.
Present day Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups, with several of them quite dark. Small as it is, Vietnam is actually a stew of many different peoples, and it has also seen many foreigners over the centuries.
Roman coins were found in Vietnam. Its alphabetized writing system was devised by a Portuguese, Alexandre de Rhodes. In Hoi An, there’s a Japanese bridge from 1590. Saigon has a huge Chinatown, Cho Lon. You go in into the highlands, north or south, there are all kinds of tribal peoples. Africans were brought to Vietnam by the French (and some Vietnamese taken to Africa!).
Nong Duc Manh, a recent General Secretary of the Communist Party, is a Tay and widely believed to be a son of Ho Chi Minh.

A lot of blacks are none to happy about this. On the other hand, most blacks have no power or representation.
The blacks who matter are those with stake in the system. And they must know by now that black success and power depends mostly in government and state jobs.
Though black elites make the usual noises about investment in the black community and etc, they seem to have given up on blacks as a whole. The rhetoric is there, but they are just looking out for themselves, and it means dependence on government.
Black elites know that, even without mass immigration and competition from newcomers, a lot of blacks are not gonna amount to much. The old good-paying working jobs are gone. Black education had hit bottom. Black family is just a memory.
So, a whole bunch of blacks don’t have much of a future of any kind.
But the ‘successful’ blacks do have a stake in the system, and that means government jobs. For those jobs to continue and expand, there has to be an expanding tax base, an it sure ain’t the Negroes.
But if you bring in immigrants, they actually work hard in the private sector and pay taxes that keep the government afloat. That way, the black elites keep their government jobs and black masses get their welfare.
Now… what if immigrants eventually compete for government jobs with blacks?
Then, black elites who rely on government might feel the squeeze, but for the time being, black middle class and rich class depend mostly on government spending. For government spending to remain viable, there has to be many people working in private enterprise and paying taxes. And blacks aren’t doing that in big enough numbers. And too many white working class and lower-class have lost hope and giving up too. They would also rather live on government dole.
So, that means immigrants are necessary cuz they will be motivated to ‘work hard’ at any job to make the ‘American Dream’ come true.
Anyway, when you look at people like Donna Brazile, the attitude is totally, “I got mine, and FU.” She has a stake in the system, and that’s all she cares about. As blacks are naturally more self-centered and self-aggrandizing, serving themselves beats all.
Even if someone like Brazile could be convinced that Trump may offer more for blacks by restricting immigration, she will stick with status quo cuz people like her get so much from it. Also, people like her may be correct in being skeptical of reviving black communities since so many blacks are so useless.
After all, there are so many black communities without competition from other groups, but everything goes to hell.
And when Zimbabwe kicked out white farmers, the farms turned to crap.
When Uganda kicked out Hindus, its economy sank.
Black elites can only thrive as parasites of the state, and for the state to have funds, there has to be enough people creating wealth and paying taxes.
African nations depend on the economic activity of other nations like China and India and European nations.
Blacks in the US rely on others.
Blacks are the ultimate parasites in the sense that they are NOTHING without other races to leech off.
Most other races can do very well or okay on their own.
But blacks are zero without others to leech off.

First if all, I don’t need studies to tell me anything about racial strength differences as I have personal experience working with hundreds of people.
Second, do you think that “genetically stronger” means “muscular strength”?
Says nothing about muscular strength. It does talk about how European Americans have less genetic variation than African Americans, though.
I can’t find the paper at the moment so here’s the abstract of the paper you linked to. Do you see anything about muscle strength? Or was the article talking about genetic diversity as “genetic strength”, meaning that whites are “less diverse” genetically due to being descended from a small band of about 3000 people who left out of Africa?

The fact is that most blacks and white liberals fear that there is something to this genetic inferiority business and they believe it precisely because of the extremely high crime rate of the black American underclass. One of the idiotic “solutions” they’ve come up with is encouraging part-black mixed race people to identify with blacks. Those who refuse to identify with blacks are denigrated and those who do are lionized and promoted as heroes. I know a Michigan man of mostly European ancestry and European phenotype who prostituted himself in order to obtain a high-level civil service job. I knew Joe. I brought him to UPenn to speak, and he slept on my ratty couch. I’m inspired by a lot of writers, including Joe. Had you been paying closer attention, I have stated that genetics AND environment, rather than one or the other, play a role in racial differences.

Yes, definitely. Ethnic Chinese were traditionally in small businesses and as such were suspected of petty bourgeois tendencies and disloyalty by the Communists, as well as resented by other ethnicities as local elites who exploited them and descendants of the rival Chinese. The first wave of boat people had a lot of ethnic Chinese. Tribal groups in the interior hills such as the Montagnards and the Hmong (in Laos) had always resisted civil authority and the CIA used that tendency for everything they could against the Communists. Large numbers of Hmong migrated to the US rather than face the assimilation being forced upon them by the Laotian government after the war ended. The American Hmong are still quite tribal.

Colin Flaherty is a rank racist. However, that does not mean that his theme should be ignored or dismissed. In fact, CF’s racism occludes what would otherwise be his most central point. All the religious groups were anti-Communist. Many northern Catholics went South in 1954 during the partition. The most Catholic province in Vietnam is Nam Dinh. Google “Nam Dinh churches” to see some amazing ones.
In the South, the Cao Dai are very active in the Mekong Delta. They hate the Communists to this day. Caodaism is a religion founded in the early 20th century. They communicate with spirits through seance sessions, and their eccentricity shows up in their rather garish temples.

Aren’t there a lot of Hmong people in the East Texas area around Galveston and Houston? I believe that a lot of Vietnamese settled in that area. Maybe I’m confusing the Hmong with the majority Vietnamese emigres.

There’s a huge Vietnamese community in Houston, and it got started early. In 1976, I spent two months in Houston and there were already Vietnamese there.
Along the Gulf Coast, there are Vietnamese too, and they fish. I’d be surprised to find a single Hmong fisherman down there.
Alamo Bay is a 1985 film about conflicts between Texas locals and the new Vietnamese arrivals.
Also in 1976, I was briefly on the Louisiana Coast, and there were Vietnamese there. There’s a PBS documentary about how the Louisiana Vietnamese dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It’s called The Village of Versailles. Its director is a Taiwanese-American, curiously enough. (A great dude, he bought me dinner in New Orleans!)

I’d say that breakdown is incorrect. The Chams lived in all of central Vietnam, and they’re not even on that list! The spoken accent in central Vietnam is utterly unlike both north and south, and I strongly suspect it’s because of the influence of Cham speakers.

Oh yes, “common” Whites DID try, for decades ,to attack Our Jewish / WASP masters. We especially tried with all our might, during the 1940s,’50s and ’60s ,when they forced integration into everything that was Ours, especially the schools ( while at the same time, they were sending their children to what were then still all-White Private Schools,far away from their beloved non-Whites they claimed their hearts bled for ) . So what exactly is the protocol here if you are attacked by, say, a group of a 6 or 7 teenage black girls? Most people will reflexively just tell you you should fight back, but if you are white or even Asian, and especially if you are male, in this politically insane climate you could very well wind up getting depicted as being the one to blame or at least as much to blame and get some serious jail time, destroy your family, and be financially destroyed to boot. You might take some damage taking some licks, but you likely would feel it would not be as devastating on many levels as the other option.
I think this is a big part of the problem leading many people get beaten- the confusion (and the paralysis it generates in a conflict) among ordinary law-abiding citizens who have the need to fight back, but feel they cannot from an ingrained expectation of law and order and conflicting feelings from the knowledge that the system is against them and for the perp(s).

Change in black underclass culture seems like a possibility, in principle anyway. Admittedly, it’s hard to see how it could be changed from the outside (given the frequently immense hostility of much of the black underclass to those who try to help them; as well as the limits to which outsiders can intervene, short of simply taking over all child-rearing responsibilities) or from the inside (given the number of completely damaged mothers bringing children into that world, without a husband or regular partner of any sort).

The most dangerous men of all are little men with big ideas of some utopia or other, particularly if they have no faith in ultimate justice, ie God. They are capable of genocide on a vast scale. “Oversized” Penile Length In The Black People; Myth Or Reality

Objective: Amongst the Caucasians and some non-Black races, there is the popular belief that the black people generally have longer penile sizes. Even the Blacks themselves tend to believe so. This study was carried out to test the veracity of this ascription of “oversized” penile length to people of the Black (Negro) race.
Design: A prospective and comparative study
Setting: The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Nigeria.
Subjects and Method: Full-stretch flaccid penile lengths, and flaccid penile lengths, were measured in 115 adult men of the Black race in Nigeria. The results were compared with reported similar main studies on people of other races, which were accessible to the authors. These studies were done in Italy, Greece, Korea, Britain, and the United States of America.
Result: The mean full-stretch penile length of the Nigerian Blacks was 13.37cm and the mean flaccid length was 9.36cm. Similar studies reported full-stretch penile lengths of 12.50cm in Italians, 12.18cm in Greeks, 9.6cm in Koreans, 13cm in British Caucasians, and 12.45cm in the American Caucasians. The penile length for Nigerian Blacks was longer than those of the other races, but the differences were only statistically different in comparison with the Koreans.

There are some nuggets of truth in what you say. And I think it’s appropriate to add that playing the victim card has appeared to work for some (special) groups. Since being “black” can get one some sympathy and lots of “freebies,” lots of useless whites adopt the “culture” hoping for some of the pickings as well it seems. That concept also explains to me why so many people with nary a trace of “black” in ‘em consider themselves black.
However, being a cracker myself, I have a feel for how a lot of crackers think, and the truth is that it ain’t purdy. Polygamy is not an acceptable solution to the break-down of the nuclear family. Economic conditions have worked against the male/female family bond in the black community and failure is increasingly common in the lower class white community. Well, I guess the question is, what is the best way forward? Certainly the current trajectory is not good and seems to be getting worse at least for those in the margins that are in close proximity. I think the threats are real in some areas but overblown generally. If the underclasses had some real options, things would likely change for the better. It’s way too easy to blame them alone. As I noted above, while I’m no expert on the history of slavery or abolition, I have no doubt that far sighted anti-slavery people could have, and probably did, predict our present predicament. The fact that many of us are suffering from the effects of chattel slavery is an indication of the utter evil that it was. It was nothing short of depraved and unfortunately innocents once again are forced to pay the price.
I don’t pretend to know what the answer is, but I sure know it doesn’t lie in condemning whole races of people. Nothing will ever have a hope of healing if people keep pointing fingers at one another and hating each other because of the always present relative handful of antisocial rejects extant at any one time.

Put simply, I think the change boils down to weakness and cowardice. The Black Power movement copped out on the challenges that remained facing blacks after the Civil Rights movement and engaged in the politics of extortion for short-term advantage rather than the whole complexity of issues, both internal and external, impeding the betterment of blacks. Blaming whitey for everything was easier and more instantly gratifying than self-improvement. Politicians like Mayor Coleman Young of Detroit found it politically advantageous to go along with that trend. Failure and pathology became conflated with black authenticity. “Systemic racism” in education provided a ready-made excuse for black underperformance in education. Daniel Patrick Moynihan became persona non grata for speaking the truth about dysfunction among blacks. The only real power the Black Power movement had was based on plucking the white desire for virtue signalling, which in itself was a cowardly approach when faced with things that were going horribly wrong among blacks. That white virtue signalling was institutionalized with the Kerner Commission report, which pretty much negated the gains in race relations that had been made during the Civil Rights era.

It's pretty easy to see how in that case, government would view self reliant groups as an enemy and in typical fashion seek to demonize and exterminate them. The extermination doesn't have to be as overt an attack on all religions as took place under Lenin and Stalin, either. Government provided welfare is pernicious in a subtle way because it undermines independence under the guise of altruism, and doesn't rely on direct aggression which would tend to frighten people away from supporting the programs.
Welfare payments, being essentially the reception of stolen goods, like corporate bailouts and foreign "aid" all undermine moral accountability and lead to the cesspools of degeneration that we're living today. Thus, much of the violent behavior we're subject to is one result of people outsourcing their altruism to agents of the state.

I’m no expert on the subject, but I’d be willing to bet that “politicians” did more than go along with the trend, but no doubt fueled it whenever they could.
For me, the bottom line is that there are many actors and factors in dysfunctional behavior and your comments seems to support that view. The usual suspects certainly know how to exploit a given situation to their short term advantage, the future be damned. It seems to me that chattel slavery itself developed as a result of that mindset, and that wage and tax slavery continue for that reason (and others) as well.
Again, I have no answer, if there is one, but I do have a bead on what doesn’t work, and articles like the present one don’t seem to help much if at all. I would go a step further and say that no truly religious person should support coercive government in any way, including accepting welfare because accepting it constitutes a demand for government services, thus encouraging the growth of the leviathin.
Furthermore, accepting welfare amounts to accepting stolen property surrendered under compulsion and that leads to a host of attendant evils. No truly religious person would think twice about engaging in that sort of behavior, I’d think.

Some pertinent observations from James Howard Kunstler:
For the moment, while the racial grievances of 2014 have chilled on the polar vortex, and no unarmed black teens have been shot by cops for a couple of weeks, it might be a good time to continue that honest discussion about race that the media nabobs — such as Charles Blow and Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times and Don Lemon of CNN — demand when some incendiary event goes down and tensions across the country become unbearable. That demand, of course, is a political booby-trap because any discussion not founded on the presumption of white malice is instantly deemed inadmissible and “racist” — which is just cheap demagogic despotism designed to shut down the very discussion they asked for. So that is exactly what I expect in response to this essay.
I bring these matters up because it seems to me that the long, arduous, costly battle for “civil rights” which began in my childhood a half century ago is beginning to look like a lost cause. The movies and TV are full of black / white buddy stories, and commercial images of a shared American experience as if there really was a common culture that blacks and whites felt an equal investment in. These stories and images are largely wishful, though I believe the dream of a common culture that would nurture all types of people in America stood at the heart of civil rights idealism of the sort represented by Martin Luther King and the white public figures who marched in solidarity with him.
Something went terribly wrong in the early going, and I don’t think there has ever been an honest discussion about it by American social thought leaders of any race, though I have raised the point more than once in passing. It was the paradoxical rise of black separatist politics at the exact historical moment of civil rights triumph when the two landmark civil rights bills were passed: the Public Accommodations Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Black separatism had been around since the late 19th century as a counterpoint to the earlier post-slavery idea represented by Booker T. Washington, which proposed that black earnestness would eventually be recognized by white America and rewarded, at least with economic participation. That idea was opposed by less patient, younger figures such as W.E.B Du Bois and Marcus Garvey who promoted what was then called “Pan-Africanism.” But the debate was superseded by the crises of the Great Depression and Second World War. By the early 1960s, black separatism had revived, personified first by Malcolm X (assassinated by rival Black Muslims, 1965), and the disillusioned former Freedom Rider Stokely Carmichael, who coined the slogan “black power,” and then by scores of public players and followers.
What I think happened is that the sudden prospect of true legal equality produced deep anxiety across black America, so that opting out provided a comfortable alternative. I saw it play out at my college in 1970 when the “militant” black students organization demanded a separate black student union. In the face of the civil rights acts passed only a few years earlier, this should have been regarded as a sort of outrage, but pusillanimous college administrators caved in and bought a house for that purpose. And of course the same thing happened all over the country, so that a new form of separate-but-equal was reestablished by popular demand.
That blunder by academic leaders set a tragic tone for the forty years that followed. To rationalize the new separate-but-equal ethos, these people of liberal good intentions constructed an elaborate ideology of “multiculturalism” and “diversity” that had the tragic unintended consequence of obliterating the foundational idea of a common culture that had animated the struggle Dr. King gave his life to, as well the basic notion of what it meant to be an American.
A common culture did exist in America before the 1960s, at least in terms of manners, standards of decent behavior, and even language. It was what allowed people of good will in the 20th century to believe in “one nation indivisible.” Hence, the question America needs to ask itself: do we have enough moral focus to revive the idea that a common culture actually matters? If not, expect unending strife.

This is a major problem as you have rightly pointed out. I have many teachers from the UK, they have all spoken against this practice.

I think LD raises a very important point that no discussion of race relations can be considered honest without an airing of the culture of violence, crime, and racism that has spread like a cancer among blacks. If non-blacks are going to be obligated to step out of their comfort zone in such a discussion, so are blacks. It’s not just about black and white; relations between blacks and Asians (both east and south Asian) and Hispanics are at rock bottom largely because of crime, violence, and racism from blacks. Those situations show the ludicrousness of raising “white privilege” as a response to black dysfunction, violence, and racism. An Asian shopkeeper who keeps a watchful eye on blacks in their business is responding to a statistically-supported risk factor for their business and personal well-being, not practicing racism.

Nothing will change by choice, in this nation, in regards to our race relations with afro americans. Why? Well besides many Americans today prefer to believe in feel good liberal ideas, living in the world of make believe, and accepting the new left propaganda, we also as a nation are distracted by many things of lesser consequence. In order to change afro americans from the hostile parasites, that the New Left created, into productive citizens, we need a unifying vision of shared values in this nation. This nation has incorporated itself into competing groups for the biggest portion of the giveaway pie. The only organization the promotes social cohesion of shared values is the Church on Sundays. Unfortunately this does not extend much beyond the worship service; but this is a good model on how diverse groups can have a shared productive agenda. But because of the New Left, it is almost impossible to incorporate a shared value system in this country.
So now what? We have an increasingly hostile afro american community who, while our economy is slowly collapsing, is making more demands on the rest of us. This places enormous financial burdens in govt transfers that is simply not sustainable in the long term. The problem is that nature usually has its own way of self correcting when a certain carrying capacity is exceeded. I postulate that the same holds true with economics as well. And if we keep our collective trend line up unabated then we will suffer a long disruptive decline (I have an Econ deg, doesn’t make me an expert, but I am knowledgable about the subj). The same with the Leftist where the New Left is not exactly in sync with Liberals. So I shall focus on the New Left and their opinions of successful utopian visions:
a) The Soviet system was a disaster, and just because todays Russia is not much of an improvement does not make the old Soviet system a success.
b) Mao has caused a mass starvation among his own people with the loss of approx 30 million souls.
c) Venezuela has massive food shortages and its urban areas are sinking into chaotic conditions.
d) Cambodia had the worst case of mass genocide per capita in human history.
e) Every major city that was under leftist Democrat control over the last few decades is an economic and social mess;
f) Post war Greece and Italy both constantly flirted with Communism and are both on the economic decline.
g) When viewing a satellite photo of nighttime North Korea as compared to South Korea, the contrast is remarkable.

I am wondering what was the successes that the New Left actually claim their ideas produced, that can be demonstrated by actual empirical reality? Repeating a failed idea does not produce different successful results. The leftist ideas work well in an advertisement like presentation, supported by clever oral arguments; but always seem to fail when tested by reality.
Further, at least many Liberals are just naive & misguided, unlike the New Left who are resentful creatures who are openly hostile towards a society that supports them. The New Left is not trying to make the world a better place like a naive misguided liberal, they are trying to bring down society in order to satisfy resentful desires. The USSR was definitely a huge success: the second strongest economy and military force in the world. And China, which is the strongest economy in the world these days, even more so, as it proved to be more flexible.
And the nostalgia for the communist system (ostalgie, as they call nostalgia for the GDR in Germany), is not a consequence of the current system being a mess in traditional terms – in most former Soviet republics (not to mention Germany) people today live better, in the material sense, than before – but because it satisfied the human need for cooperation, as opposed to individualist competition…

Too many ad hominem attacks here. What the New Left are confused about is that voting for liberal political candidates is actually against the rational self interest of the average American. The New Left wants to be soft on violent crime, increases taxes, increase fines, fees, and forfeitures, criminalize innocuous acts (eg politically correct hate crime laws), while ignoring 93 million discouraged workers, and then on top of that: constantly accuse them of being racist. Most people do not think about the issues while struggling with their daily lives; but they do eventually notice when they are getting screwed.
The unfortunate thing when white flight refugees moved from the inner city neighborhoods to the suburbs, is now their own children are completely ignorant what they escaped from. Unfortunately I agree with you. The same happen in Brazil. Great part of social problems in Brazil have a single one root and this root is African, direct or indirectly. Yes I agree absolutely that average people and surprisingly many of the “$mart fraction ones” are usually mediocres, without a better word to describe them, but there is a huge difference between to be mediocre and to be problematic. There are plenty of “normal” people among afro descendents, it’s obvious, just the insane uber racists of other races to deny it. But you need to be illiberally insane to deny the disproportional, quasi-characteristic dysfunctionality among many afro descendents, read: Higher proportion of anti social personality among them, just like European gypsies. Its not like I enjoy being right on this. I would prefer to take the feel good option and pretend it does not exist, but I cannot honestly contradict my own experiences.
Many Jews still have living memory (or a descendant of) the holocaust. This has placed PTSD type cultural influence on their own thinking. Several injured by juvenile “flash mob” attack, Philly police say
PHILADELPHIA — Six people, including an off-duty police detective and his wife, were injured after a “flash mob” attack by some among a crowd of juveniles in downtown Philadelphia, police said.
Police said a large crowd of juveniles were at 16th and Walnut streets, a popular spot for dining and shopping, at about 6 p.m. Saturday when some people began randomly assaulting people on the street. News of the assault comes after several were arrested in October for similar assaults by mobs of juveniles near Temple University. A witness to that attack said he overheard police saying the kids were playing “the knockout game.”
In Saturday’s attack, a 55-year-old off-duty police detective saw a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman being assaulted and tried to arrest one of the offenders. He was punched from behind by several people, police said.
The detective’s 53-year-old wife splashed water on the offenders to try to stop them from attacking her husband, and she was punched in the face, police said. All of the offenders then fled. The four victims were taken to a nearby hospital.
Immediately afterward, there was another assault by several juveniles nearby, and two 16-year-old youths were arrested, police said.
In all, six people were injured.
The police detective had an orbital fracture to his right eye while the others had minor injuries.
One man told WPVI-TV that he feared for his safety when the large group of teens appeared, and he saw other people running into nearby stores to escape.
“It’s crazy out here,” said Dwight Magood. “I don’t know if they were trying to protest or ‘flash mobbing.’ But it’s not the right way to do it, whatever it was.”
