This run was recorded way back in early 2014 and I think this was my second ever full completed run, first time was in 2013 (obviously not going to be flawless) Run itself is 3:04:26 This video is partly of a proof of concept rather than a serious top tier run as I can improve this by at least 20-30 minutes if I put more dedication towards this category. A lot of people were puzzled from my past videos when I talk about this potential speed run category. The goal for this category is to unlock the 2nd ending which is done by: Completing the final stage in Special 8 (not S8-Crown) which then shows a cutscene of the princess getting kidnapped again. Afterwards the player must complete W8-Bowser's Castle for the second time to unlock a different ending variation and a new photo of Princess Peach wearing a Tanooki suit. The category itself becomes very unforgiving/detrimental as losing your Super Leaf can cost so much time that, it is better to go back to Special 1-1 and pick up 2 power ups. Obviously a much better run should not do that. Special 8-3 aka vs Giant Cosmic Mario/Luigi is another painful level, it's that level and probably a few others that I soft reset after making a big mistake because doing those levels without playing as Tanooki isn't worth it. For W8-Bowser's Castle 2nd visit, I am aware you can skip part of the first transport sequence but I had a hard time trying to time Luigi's regular jump to wall jump on top of the pillar and long jump right afterwards just before the fireball destroys it. Differences: Luigi has a higher regular jump and gains a bigger speed boost from a glitch which requires performing a long jump and then holding 90 degrees to the left or right to gain a lot of speed. Luigi does have his trademark low traction meaning he is very slippery after stopping. Long jumping is a tad faster but unlike Galaxy games, you are restricted to 1 direction when performing this move, you can't jump as high as you can in previous games and a bonk towards the wall costs quite a bit of time. I am more confident with long jumping if I had to adjust my angle by roughly 45 degrees to cut corners or going fast in a straight line (crossing over big gaps). I might as well upload this because my raw video it was using a considerable amount of space (42gb) on one of my external hard drives at and shows an interesting category at the same time. P-Wing: No it's not cheating, you are using up 10 lives which is faster than completing Bowser's final battle normally. There are a few restrictions: The 10 lives method can only be obtained in a regular world that has not been completed yet. You can't get a P-Wing in any of the Special world stages (even after using up 10 lives). The mystery box method can only be done as a special golden box spawn in REGULAR World 1. Because of this, I purposely leave one of the regular stages in World 8 and do that one just before completing Special 8, this allows me to get a P-Wing and use it to skip Bowser's final battle for the second time. I choose a non-default mii wearing a black shirt, this allows me to encounter 2 golden mystery boxes partway through the special worlds. The RNG seed is fixed depending on the colour of the mii's shirt and the order you do them in (so making your own mii with a black shirt and entering the mystery boxes the same order as mine = same outcome). Because I can get 2 bonus medals, I can at least skip two star medals right before the final Special-8 stage. IF there is a certain Mii colour that can get at least 3 golden boxes = 3 bonus star medals, I can skip 1 stage but have to collect 3 star medals on every single stage besides the one I have skipped. A true 100% requires: *Completing every single level twice (one for Mario, one for Luigi) *Collect every star medal from all main stages *Reach to the very top of the goal pole for every single stage *Complete S8-Crown twice (one for Mario, one for Luigi) and reach the very top of the goal pole.
