I managed to film the inbound flight arrive at Gatwick before I went through departures to catch it, so you can see it from the outside before I take you on-board :) A brilliant flight on WOW Air's brand new Airbus A330-343! The aircraft is mainly used on their routes from Iceland to LA & San Francisco but is currently being used in the mornings to London & Paris too. So for the sake of £55 I went for a ride on it! A very grey morning in London, wasn't raining during boarding, pushback & taxi but while at the holding point for take off you could see the band of rain sweeping its way across the airport towards us. Hitting us with a torrential downpour just in time for take off. Some incredible spray and condensation affects during the take off and the sound is just something else. Usually A330's with Rolls-Royce engines power up nice and smoothly, not this one. Bone shaking sound once take off thrust was set, really incredible performance for those Rolls-Royce Trents and a quick rotation and climb away from Gatwick into the clouds. However the incredible sound did not stop there. We "step by step" climbed our way northbound, through London's extremely busy airspace which meant lots of powering up & down constantly for a good 10mins before finally powering up and climbing away towards the cruise leaving the grey skies below. Some amazing sound during that climb, make sure you have the volume up & headphones on. Once in the cruise gave me a chance to have a little wonder about, went right to the back of the aircraft and got some footage behind the wing and gave you a little look around the inside. Surprisingly quite busy in the main cabin, I thought there would be a lot more empty seats than there actually was. The very back few rows were completely empty though which gave me the opportunity to get some footage. During the descent not much to see until the last few minutes when we were on final approach over land, some beautiful views of the coastline then before swinging right round and arriving on RWY11 at KEF. Before people ask "Why they using a big plane on such a short flight?" - Size of the aircraft does not reflect the length of the flight it does. If it's a busy route, they will use an aircraft that can take more people. In this case, the aircraft is new, A330's are brand new to the WOW Air fleet so they are using them as much as possible to give the crew some experience and give the aircraft a good running. That's why. Rumours are that it may even become a frequent visitor to London to compete with Icelandair sending a 767 to Heathrow. *As always with my entire series of *Full Flight* videos I do not literally mean over 9 hours of continuous video of nothing but sky across the Atlantic. By Full Flight I mean this video includes all stages of the flight from Boarding until Disembarkation, not 9 hours of nothing.
