Mercedes-Benz has announced prices for its new E350e plug-in hybrid and the AMG powered E43.
Priced from $159,900 before on-road costs, the Mercedes-AMG E43 rides on 20-inch wheels and gains Nappa leather upholstery, sports exhaust and sports braking system as well as a range of AMG kit over the regular E-Class models.
The E43 is powered by the German car maker's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 295kW and 520Nm and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with power delivered to all four wheels,
The E350e, which is priced from $131,600 before on-road costs, pairs a four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor which combine for a power output of 210kW and 550Nm and is mated to a nine-speed automatic.
Mercedes claims that its plug-in hybrid can run on pure electric power for up to 30km and can sip just 2.4L/100km of fuel when used as a hybrid.
Fitted with all the Mercedes-Benz standard luxury kit the E3530e also gains the brand's air suspension, a panoramic sunroof and pre-entry climate control.
Both models are now available for order with the first examples arriving in february 2017.

Neither models seem convincing. Smart money would go for the E400 4Matic at $139K on the 19 wheels. No doubt E43 AMG has worse ride for little useful performance gain. E350e is too heavy and would have compromised handling.
