Andrew Bogut ruled out of Dallas Mavericks' NBA game for 'personal reasons'

Australian star Andrew Bogut was ruled out of the Dallas Mavericks' NBA clash against the Portland Trail Blazers because of "personal reasons".

Bogut, who joined the Mavericks this season after he was traded by the Golden State Warriors, was listed among the team's injury updates before the match on Friday night (Saturday morning AEDT).

The Mavericks brought in guard J.J. Barea to replace the big Australian centre against the Trail Blazers (2-3) who had lost three of their past four matches.

Bogut has been averaging more than 10 rebounds a game for the Mavs.

It has been a dismal start to the NBA season for the Mavericks, who are yet to win a game (0-4). The trend continued on Saturday, going down to Portland 105-95, the first time in their franchise history they've lost the first five games of the NBA season.

The Dallas News has reported that Bogut is expected back for Sunday's (Monday AEDT) clash against Milwaukee.

In other NBA games on Saturday, Washington have edged Atlanta 95-92 to give Scott Brooks his first win as Wizards coach.

Bradley Beal led the way for the NBA franchise with 20 of his 28 points after half-time on Friday night.

Hassan Whiteside became the first Miami Heat player to open a season with double-doubles in each of the first five games, but the Florida team lost 96-87 loss to the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centres.

Whiteside had with 21 points, 16 rebounds and three assists.

While the Heat consistently fought back from double-digit deficits, boosted by the return of guard Josh Richardson, who made his season debut following his September knee injury, the lack of contributions from starters Dion Waiters and Luke Babbitt proved too much to overcome.

Dragic added 17 points for the Heat, Tyler Johnson 16, Winslow 13 and James Johnson 11.

Kristaps Porzingis had 27 points and Carmelo Anthony added 25 to lead the New York Knicks to a 117-104 victory over the Bulls in the triumphant return of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah to Chicago.

Rose, the Bulls' first-round draft pick in 2008, finished with 15 points and 11 assists for the Knicks, while Noah, a 2007 first-rounder, had 16 points and nine rebounds. They teamed up to play a familiar two-man game late as New York held off a Chicago comeback.

Dwyane Wade led Chicago (3-2) with 35 points on 12-for-20 shooting and Jimmy Butler added 26 points.

Elsewhere, Kemba Walker scored a season-high 30 points to help the Charlotte Hornets improved their best start in 16 years to 4-1 by beating the Brooklyn Nets 99-95, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 99-88, with Chris Paul getting 27 points and 11 assists.
