Australia v Scotland - how the Wallabies players rated

By Tom Decent

Wallabies player ratings (1-15)

Scott Sio - 7: Carried with purpose but missed two tackles - as many as any Wallaby. Up and down performance at scrum-time. Did, however, play a hand in a few key penalties that went Australia's way.

Stephen Moore - 8.5: Sensational for the full 80 minutes even though Tolu Latu was ready to go on the bench. Will admit lineout could be better though.

Sekope Kepu - 6.5: Sound. Dropped a carry when Australia was in good field position but did orchestrate a number of scrum penalties to give Australia easy points within range.

Rory Arnold - 7: Made lots of tackles and was reliable at the lineout even if it wasn't Australia's best department on Saturday.

Adam Coleman - 2: Limited impact after going off with an ankle injury after five minutes.

David Pocock - 9: Mammoth effort at the breakdown. One of four Australian players to make 10 or more tackles. Second-most run metres for a forward of either team.

Michael Hooper - 8.5: Dug in right to the end. Eight carries for 36 metres - the most of any forward on the field. Workhorse.

Lopeti Timani - 7: Another solid game. Cleared rucks out with purpose and gave every reason for Michael Cheika to stick with the Pocock-Hooper-Timani back-row combination for the game against Ireland (assuming the Wallabies coach rests a few players against France next week).

Will Genia - 8: Appeared out of nowhere to snare a high ball, which typified his energy around the field. Nice service to Foley all afternoon. All up a good return after two Tests out.

Bernard Foley - 8.5: Played a role in Reece Hodge's try with a smart wrap-around, set-play with Israel Folau. Even when the Wallabies looked without answers in the second half, Foley kept asking questions of Scotland's defence. Didn't miss a kick all night which could well have been the difference. Also gave the final pass that put Kuridrani over.

Henry Speight - 6: Dropped a high ball which did not please coach Cheika. Made 77 metres from nine runs though which was better than some other Wallabies backs.

Reece Hodge - 7: A very up-and-down game. Dropped a few balls but was dangerous early on before going on to score his second Test try.

Tevita Kuridrani - 8: Scored the match-wining try with a powerful run and well and truly made up for a defensive lapse in the first half which led to Huw Jones's second try. It was his second five-pointer in as many games. Was busy elsewhere with most run-metres of any Wallaby.

Dane Haylett-Petty - 7.5: Efficient under the high ball and looked dangerous on his wing. Has well and truly cemented his position on the wing in what has been a stellar debut year at international level.

Israel Folau - 7: A similar game to last week. Got his hands on the ball a fair bit - making 42 metres from 15 runs. Folau could have scored easily under the posts in the 75th minute had Kuridrani not backed himself, which would have ended his try-scoring drought. Nonetheless, a pleasing match. Will we see him at outside-centre next match?

Reserves

Tolu Latu - N/A

Tom Robertson - 4: Only on for seven minutes. Was at loose-head when Scotland were given a free-kick at the 80-minute mark to have one last chance at victory.

Allan Alaalatoa - 5: Made six runs and carried hard when given the chance. Like Robertson, was on the other side of the scrum when Scotland awarded free kick.

Rob Simmons - 6.5: Came on after just five minutes because of injury to Coleman. Australia's lineout wasn't at its best and Simmons missed two tackles but his impact was felt elsewhere on the field.

Will Skelton - 1.5: Came on in the 62nd minute and was sent to the bin in the 69th for foul play while trying to clear out a ruck. Was silly from the big man in his first game in Australian colours since Bledisloe II. It could have cost Australia the match given they had to defend with 14 men for a crucial part of the game.

Cheika said: "He's got to put his arms around that guy and he knows that. It's ill-disciplined from him. He doesn't have to do it. It's after the whistle. It wasn't clever."

Dean Mumm - 4: Had about half an hour on the field and worked hard. Wasn't a game-changing performance but certainly solid in the middle of the field in the second-row - a position he hasn't played at whole lot at in recent weeks.

Nick Phipps - 5: Not many minutes but picked up where he left off against Wales. Did very well to hold onto a Stephen Moore hand-back that hit him in the chin. Phipps then passed to Foley who proceeded to give Kuridrani the match-winning touch.

Quade Cooper - N/A
