Slingerland is an American drum kits brand, currently owned by Gibson. The brand is strongly related to jazz drummers, such as Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich, who used to play signature instruments made by the company.
Slingerland also produced electric and acoustic guitars, mandolins and banjos during the 1930s.
The "Slingerland Drum Company" was founded by Henry Heanon "H.H." Slingerland (1875–1946) in 1912. Slingerland had won a correspondence school of music in a card game aboard one of the gaming boats that once cruised Lake Michigan. He then opened a music school in Chicago, and soon turned to manufacturing instruments as well. The company started out importing ukuleles from Germany, but set up its own production because it could not meet demand. Soon, they produced their own banjos and ukuleles and eventually, also guitars (including electric guitars from 1936 or earlier). Production of drums was started in 1927 in answer to the entry of the Ludwig & Ludwig drum company into the banjo market. The first Slingerland drum kits came out in 1928.
Bernard "Buddy" Rich (September 30, 1917 – April 2, 1987) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader.
Known for his virtuoso technique, power and speed, Rich was billed as "the world's greatest drummer" during his career. He performed with many bandleaders, most notably Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Count Basie, and led his own "Buddy Rich Big Band".
Rich was born in Brooklyn to Jewish-American parents Bess (née Skolnik) and Robert Rich, both vaudevillians. His talent for rhythm was first noted by his father, who saw that Buddy could keep a steady beat with spoons at the age of one. He began playing drums in vaudeville when he was 18 months old, billed as "Traps the Drum Wonder". At the peak of Rich's childhood career, he was reportedly the second-highest paid child entertainer in the world (after Jackie Coogan).
At age 11 he was performing as a bandleader. He received no formal drum instruction and went so far as to claim that instruction would only degrade his musical talent. He also never admitted to practicing. He claimed to play the drums only during performances and was not known to read music.

Genres: Western,Here is a vintage Slingerland Radio King drum set. These drums sing and have plenty of attack to cut through the mix. The included snare is a particular sonic highlight. The shells and wrap are in great condition for their age. There is some minor separation on the floor tom and scuffs on the hardware. Sizes for these shells are: 24 bass, 13 rack, 16 floor, 14" snare Purchase these vintage drums by calling (207) 874-6630 or email TheDrumShopMaine@gmail.com
Rare and cool. Slingerland later 70s Buddy Rich style drum set. This set is 9x13, 16x16, 16x16, 14x24, 5.5x14 and matching canister throne. The set is the late 70s correct, Slingerland all-maple shell with no reinforcement rings. Set was clearly made for an artist for a few key reasons: virtually sequential badges (which is almost unheard of); clear coat lacquer interior (which they did only for Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, and perhaps select other artists. This was NOT offered to the general public). Also, the toms are made without tone controls, which is also highly unusual. (Buddy ordered his drums without tone controls). The 5.5x14 snare is the TDR style with the correct three ventholes and was ordered with the factory Slapshot strainer. This was a standard offering at this time for bot...
For the first time I (Ken Loomer) set up both Buddy Rich Slingerland 80N drumset versions to show case these important drums which are a big part of drum history. Buddy rejoined Slingerland drums back in January 1968 and stayed with them for a little over ten years until April of 1978. Slingerland which made these drums at the new Niles Illinois USA drum factory was the largest manufacturer of drums in the world at that time. Slingerland made two version of these drums during this ten year period. Slingerland were making great drums during this time and the sound of these drums were just incredible. The first version made in 1968 had the 3 ply shells with the solid rock maple reenforcing hoops. Also the counter hoops were made of chrome covered solid brass. This set came with the Buddy Ric...

This video showcases Joe Ciucci's 1966 Slingerland kit which was carefully restored by Clint Coppel at the ATL Drum Collective. The Slingerlands have Coated Response 2's on the top of the toms and the snare. The bass drum has a Coated Force I on the batter and all drums are outfitted with Classic Clears for the resonant side. Special thanks to Mike Froedge and "Cock of the Walk Studios", Joe Ciucci for the 66's and Clint Coppel for the great restoration.
You can't beat these thin brass shells! They're incredible. And the TDR throw off is a beast. One of Slingerland's best throw offs, in my opinion. Give this drum a listen! ____________________________________________________________ Drums – Slingerland 14 x 6 1/2" TDR Chrome Over Brass Snare Drum Cymbals – Zildjian 16" K Light Hats, 20" K Light Crash, 22" K Constantinople Medium-Thin Low Hardware – DW 6000 Cymbals Stands, DW 9000 Snare Stand, DW 9000 Hi Hat Stand Sticks – Vic Firth 5B ____________________________________________________________________ Tim's Instagram – http://instagram.com/timbofromkeno
