David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

James Ponsoldt’s (Smashed and The Spectacular Now) fantastic new movie The End of the Tour is now playing in select theaters. Based on a true story, the film follows Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and author David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel) on the closing days of the book tour of Infinite Jest, the novel that made Wallace a literary sensation. Trust me, if you want to see two actors at the top of their game, seek this film out. The End of the Tour also stars Anna Chlumsky, Joan Cusack, Mamie Gummer, and Mickey Sumner. At the Los Angeles press day I spoke with Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg. They talked about how their acting process has changed over the years, their thoughts on method acting and the benefits of making the movie with a small group of people. You ...
A discussion of David Foster Wallace moderated by Michael Silverblatt with writers David Lipsky, Rick Moody, and Joanna Scott.
David Lipsky discusses his time with David Foster Wallace during Wallace's "Infinite Jest" book tour, the film "The End of the Tour," Jason Segel's performance, how the film got made and more.
It happened at the Enzian Theater in Maitland, Fl on August 29, 2015. The process was off to a bad start; the crew couldn't get the Skype feed projected on the big screen. Twice did the computer fail to properly show the feed. But after a bit of video compromise, the interview went smoothly. Lipsky is just as quirky and off-beat in real life as Jesse Eisenberg played him in the film, and he provides both interesting anecdotes about his time with David Foster Wallace and his e-mail address to gain some attention.

Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly." Three writers weigh in on chasing their obsessions in their work. Panelists: David Lipsky, Nino Ricci, Scott Lasser Moderator: Barbara Dills

Q&A; with Jason Segel of THE END OF THE TOUR. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Variety. SYNOPSIS THE END OF THE TOUR tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter (and novelist) David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace’s groundbreaking epic novel, Infinite Jest. As the days go on, a tenuous yet intense relationship seems to develop between journalist and subject. The two men bob and weave around each other, sharing laughs and also possibly revealing hidden frailties – but it’s never clear how truthful they are being with each other. Ironically, the interview was never published, and five days of audio tapes were packed away in Lipsky’s closet. The two men di...
