A tour of some popular spots in the Canadian Rockies, among them are Banff National Park in the Province of Alberta and Yoho National Park in the Province of British Columbia.

The Town of Banff was the first municipality to incorporate within a Canadian national park. It is a resort town and one of Canada's most popular tourist destinations, known for its mountainous surroundings and hot springs. It is a destination for outdoor sports and features extensive hiking, biking and skiing.
Lake Louise is a glacial lake within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Fairmont's Chateau Lake Louise, one of Canada's grand railway hotels, is located on Lake Louise's eastern shore. It is a luxury resort hotel built in the early decades of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Johnston Creek is a tributary of the Bow River in Canada's Rocky Mountains. The creek is located in Banff National Park. A popular hiking trail follows the canyon and leads to a meadow within the Johnston Valley above the canyon. The first part of the trail consists of a constructed walkway with safety rails and bridges, while the last part of the trail is natural and more rugged.

I've had a great time visiting Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre in the vicinity of the town of Golden. This wolf sanctuary and it's instructors, armed with their wealth of knowledge, give the centre's visitors a true depiction of these majestic and reclusive creatures.

I've also had the pleasure of spending the night at the Mount 7 Lodges near golden BC. The hosts were splendid as well as the accommodation. The views...spectacular!

Unfortunately, the weather during the time of the shoot was less than perfect with extended periods of cloudiness and rain. However, even under those conditions, a visit is highly recommended!

Solo 40 km backpack hike to Howse pass in Banff Park, Alberta. This is an abandoned fur trading route. I show tricks for making life easy in the wilderness. The trail was in such bad shape, with so much deadfall, that I had to abandon my attempt to reach the pass. Rocky Mountains
The Rocky Mountains, commonly known as the Rockies, are a major mountain range in western North America. The Rocky Mountains stretch more than 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from the northernmost part of British Columbia, in western Canada, to New Mexico, in the southwestern United States. Within the North American Cordillera, the Rockies are somewhat distinct from the Pacific Coast Ranges and the Cascade Range and Sierra Nevada which all lie further to the west.
The Rocky Mountains were initially formed from 80 million to 55 million years ago during the Laramide orogeny, in which a number of plates began to slide underneath the North American plate. The angle of subduction was shallow, resulting in a broad belt of mountains running down western North America. Since then, further tectonic activity and erosion by glaciers have sculpted the Rockies into dramatic peaks and valleys. At the end of the last ice age, humans started to inhabit the mountain range. After Europeans, such as Sir Alexander Mackenzie and Americans, such as the Lewis and Clark expedition, started to explore the range, minerals and furs drove the initial economic exploitation of the mountains, although the range itself never became densely populated.

Lake Louise is a glacial lake within Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Fairmont's Chateau Lake Louise, one of Canada's grand railway hotels, is located on Lake Louise's eastern shore. It is a luxury resort hotel built in the early decades of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Johnston Creek is a tributary of the Bow River in Canada's Rocky Mountains. The creek is located in Banff National Park. A popular hiking trail follows the canyon and leads to a meadow within the Johnston Valley above the canyon. The first part of the trail consists of a constructed walkway with safety rails and bridges, while the last part of the trail is natural and more rugged.

I've had a great time visiting Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre in the vicinity of the town of Golden. This wolf sanctuary and it's instructors, armed with their wealth of knowledge, give the centre's visitors a true depiction of these majestic and reclusive creatures.

Alberta Falls in the south of Glacier Gorge is one of the park’s most popular sightseeing destinations where white masses of foaming water race down several levels into the valley below. The road from Glacier Gorge winds its way in a northerly direction past Glacier Basin and the eastern park entrance close to Estes Park. In this region the Rocky Mountains are at their most beautiful and the landscape in the area of Horseshoe Park is reminiscent of the exciting and colourful Wild West of old. The vast wilderness in the west of the USA has survived in the Rocky Mountains right up to the present day and is a fascinating tribute to the amazing natural world of North America.

Sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘buffalo’, the bison is probably the most famous animal that roams the North American plains and is known by the Sioux Indians as, ‘tatanka’. In addition to prairie land, bison can also be found in forest areas such as The Grand Teton National Park. Once a year the otherwise peaceful town of Strurgis is transformed into one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in the world. For an entire week everything focuses upon chrome, horsepower and the name, Harley Davidson. Motorcyclists travel here from each corner of the United States and in the year 2000 more than six hundred thousand enthusiasts visited the event. The most spectacular section of the Wind River is located in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone National Park. The canyon’s most prominent landmarks are the thirty three and ninety four metre high Upper and Lower Falls. Much of the striking scenery of the Wind River Valley now belongs to the Shoshone and Arapho Indian Reservation. The Jackson Hole Rodeo has retained its age-old charm, unlike the far more popular and larger venues to be found in the country’s major cities that attract thousands of visitors. Tatanka is a living symbol of the Great Plains in the State of Wyoming and still embodies life in the Wild West of old. The legends and traditions of cowboys and trappers, plus the fascinating cultural heritage of the Indian people, has not only survived here but can still be felt right up to the present day.
