Body of missing hang glider pilot found

A crashed hang glider pilot has been found dead after an air, land and sea search off Rainbow Beach, east of the Queensland city of Gympie.

Police said the 61-year-old man was forced to make an emergency descent near Double Island Point around 2pm on Saturday and his body was found in bushland on Sunday mornring.

His yellow glider had been spotted by the RACQ rescue helicopter about 750m inland from the ocean on Sunday morning.

An extensive air and water search had been undertaken to find the man as it was not known if he came down on land or in the water.
