Dr.David Patient wears 3 hats as Associate Professor, Associate Dean and Academic Director of the MSc in Management and teaches courses in communication, organizational behavior, and human resources management in the International MSc, Master in Law and Business, Lisbon MBA, and CMU-Portugal PhD program. In addition, David coordinates (with João Matos) the Os Três Pilares executive program on communicating, persuasing, and negotiating more effectively, and teaches in numerous in-house and open executive programs. Dr. Patient’s research focuses on effective managerial communication and employee motivation. His expertise allows him to consult for numerous organizations, helping the motivate employees and clients during difficult times – in ways that increase decisions acceptance, strengthen relationships, and advance the interests of both parties. His work has been published in books and top academic journals, including Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Studies, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. Prior to joining Catolica-Lisbon in 2006, David was a Lecturer in Business Communication at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. David has also worked as an independent provider of corporate writing and editing services to a variety of organizations, and as a marketing representative for IBM Canada. David Patient holds a law degree from University College London, and an MBA and PhD from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He is a visiting professor at MYRA teaching at MYRA for the 4th consecutive year. He teaches Organizational Behaviour course at MYRA.
