News Corp Australia is adding a competitive edge to family nights this month when it launches a mini board game collectable in its metro and regional papers.

From Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, News Corp Australia launches the Hasbro Family Favourites Mini Board Games Collection; a set of 14 board games that includes bestselling titles such as Twister, Guess Who? Battleship  and Trivial Pursuit.

The first in the collection is Monopoly, which, together with a Collector’s Case, is available for $3.50 with the purchase of the newspaper from participating newsagents, Woolworths or IGA supermarkets across Australia. Subsequent games will be available for $3.50 each over the following two-week period.

News Corp Australia’s managing director – metro and regional publishing Damian Eales said: “Board games are a great way to bring families together; not only to engage in a bit of healthy competition but to create memories over a shared experience.  Board games are a great way for children to learn important skills such as critical thinking and negotiation. Face-to-face time for any family is invaluable and we’re proud to give Australian families an affordable and fun way to come together via the Hasbro Mini Board Game Collection.”

Mr Eales said Hasbro, the clear market leader in the board games segment with 75 per cent share, had provided News Corp with access to the most iconic games for this exclusive collection.

The full collection includes the following mini games: Monopoly, Guess Who?, The Game of Life, Boggle, Twister, Cluedo, Connect4, Trivial Pursuit, Mastermind, Operation, Yahtzee, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Chutes and Ladders and Battleship.

An extensive marketing campaign across television, social media, print and digital will amplify the collection. In addition, a radio partnership with ARN, utilising the Gold FM, WSFM and Mix FM stations, has delivered a five-state in-paper and on-air competition for the five days leading up to launch weekend. A comprehensive PR campaign will also support the launch.
