Corbynism and the rise of left-wing populism Marxists from Spain and Britain met recently in London to discuss the dynamic developments taking place in the world today. At that meeting from 20 to 22 September, representatives from El Militante/Izquierda Revolucionaria, the Socialist Party and the Committee for a Workers’ International agreed to an exchange of material to be published in our respective magazines and journals. We are pleased to be able to publish the first two articles from that initiative. Here, PETER TAAFFE, Socialist Party general secretary, puts the Corbyn movement in the context of an international wave of left-wing populism. This is followed by JUAN IGNACIO RAMOS, Izquierda Revolucionaria general secretary, who explains how the recent dramatic crisis in Spanish social democracy is driven by class struggle: PSOE and the Class Struggle. During the second leadership campaign, Jeremy Corbyn spoke of his ambition to have ministers for peace and disarmament in a future Labour government. Corbyn’s life-long opposition to nuclear weapons and war was among the policies that attracted the hundreds of thousands who surged into the Labour Party to defend him against the warmonger Blairites and their coup. However, to achieve an anti-nuclear, anti-war Labour government in Britain first requires winning the civil war over what kind of party Labour will be. SARAH SACHS-ELDRIDGE writes.
