The city of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerg, French: Luxembourg, German: Luxemburg), also known as Luxembourg City (Luxembourgish: Stad Lëtzebuerg or Luxembourgish: d'Stad, French: Ville de Luxembourg, German: Stadt Luxemburg), is a commune with city status, and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It stands at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers in southern Luxembourg. The city contains the Luxembourg Castle, established by the Franks in the Early Middle Ages, around which a settlement developed.
Luxembourg City lies at the heart of Western Europe, situated 213 km (132 mi) by road from Brussels, 372 km (231 mi) from Paris, and 209 km (130 mi) from Cologne.
As of January 2014, the commune of Luxembourg City had a population of 107,247, which was more than three times the population of the country's second most populous commune (Esch-sur-Alzette). The city's metropolitan population, including that of surrounding communes of Hesperange, Sandweiler, Strassen, and Walferdange, was higher than 165,000.

Luxembourg i/ˈlʌksəmbɜːrɡ/ (Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerg; German: Luxemburg), officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a landlocked country in western Europe. It is bordered by Belgium to the west and north, Germany to the east, and France to the south. It comprises two principal regions: the Oesling in the north as part of the Ardennes massif, and the Gutland ("good country") in the south. With an area of 2,586 square kilometres (998 sq mi), it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe (about the same size as the English county of Northamptonshire). Luxembourg had a population of 524,853 in October 2012, ranking it the 8th least-populous country in Europe.
As a representative democracy with a constitutional monarch, it is headed by a grand duke, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and is the world's only remaining grand duchy. Luxembourg is a developed country, with an advanced economy and the world's highest GDP (PPP) per capita, according to the United Nations in 2014. Its central location has historically made it of great strategic importance to numerous powers, dating back to its founding as a Roman fortress, its hosting of a vital Frankish castle during the Early Middle Ages, and its role as a bastion for the Spanish Road between the 16th and 17th centuries.

Although the capital city of Luxembourg is not particularly large, its layout is complex, as the city is set on several levels, straddling hills and dropping into the two gorges. The 70 m (230 ft) deep gorges are spanned by many bridges and viaducts. The city, because of its location and natural geography, has through history been a place of strategic military significance. The first fortifications were built as early as the 10th century. The Casemates Bock is a network of underground fortifications, built in the 18th century, that tunnel under the city. The fortifications and environs are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For a long three day weekend, we headed to Luxembourg City to check the small country of Luxembourg off of our list. We stayed in Ville Haute, the fortified town core. From there we explored River Alzette and the Grund, (the lower part of the city), the Rue Münster Bridge, Saint-Esprit square, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Place Guillaume II, Place d'Armes, the famous Chocolate House, and more! We even snuck a day trip to Trier, Germany in there (another video!). Filmed & Edited by: Rico Fabello Brittany Fabello Hand lettering: Brittany Fabello Music: Trees to Stone by Freemont

A brief walk through of my royal club room while staying at Hotel Le Royal. Hotel Le Royal is a 5 star hotel located in downtown Luxembourg City. The hotel is beautiful and recently renovated. It really does feel like a 5 star hotel. The Hotel bar, Piano Bar was excellent also. The drinks and service were good. I also used the valet service. It was very quick, and fairly cheap at 15 euros per day. I would highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in Luxembourg. Subscribe to keep up to date on future travel videos.
