DERANGED: Richard Speck (SERIAL KILLER CRIME DOCUMENTARY)
In 1966, Richard Speck committed one of the most horrifying mass murders in American history when he brutalized and killed eight student nurses living on Chicago's South Side.
Richard Speck captured the nation's attention during the summer of 1966 after murdering eight female students who lived together on Chicago's South Side. Before then, he had been responsible for other acts of violence against his family and others but had a knack for escaping the police. After his killing spree in 1966, a manhunt ensued and he was captured two days later. He spent the rest of his life in prison until he died of a heart attack in 1991 at age 49.

Beachwood sawdust
Seasoning per kg of meat:
1,5g allspice
5g white pepper
1,5g juniper berries
2g brown sugar
1g garlic powder
1,5g caraway
1,5g cilantro
10g curing salt
25g salt
1/2 bay leaf

Preparation:
Mix all the spices and crush them with a pestle and mortar. Portion the pork loin or belly as desired and apply 50 g of the mixed spices (curing mixture, per kg of meat) to the meat and rub well from all sides.
Put every single piece of meat in freezer bags and place them in the fridge. Cure them for 7 days per kg. The optimal temperature is between 4 and 6°C (39-42°F).
Very important is to turn the meat every 2nd day, to ensure that it cures equally.
After the 7 days (per kg), rinse off the excess salt under cold water and blot dry the meat. Put it back to the fridge, this time without a bag, and let it air dry for 2 days.
Place the cured meat in the smokehouse, or any container, which is suitable for cold smoking, and smoke (not higher than 25°C / 77°F) the meat for 5 – 7 days, depending on which intensity of smoke and colour you like.
Very important is that the future Speck needs a 12 h break after 12 h of smoking (one day of smoking consists of 12 h smoke and 12 h break).
Finally hang the Speck at a cool and aired place and let it ripen for 2-3 weeks.

Speck says the Presidio GRIP has 10ft worth of drop protection. Does it really?

Speck says the Presidio GRIP is drop-rated to 10 ft which was a shock to me since the Speck Candyshell for the iPhone 6 didn't do much for a 6ft drop.
Regardless, I decided to take my chance with my iPhone 7 Plus in the Presidio GRIP and dropped it from about 10 ft. What happened? I'm out an iPhone now.
In my opinion, face first drops are going to be uncommon. I've dropped enough iPhones to know that is most likely going to be a corner that hits first which the Speck will probably perform ok. In reality, there is such a small chance that you'll accidentally drop your iPhone face first and have it land almost parallel against the ground.
You may be thinking that I'm being particularly tough on Speck but the Presidio GRIP is one of the best cases for the iPhone 7 so before I go out of my way to recommend it, I need to know the cases weaknesses.

Speck
Speck is an English word meaning "fat" or "blubber", attested since the early 17th century. This word also exists in German with the same meaning, but it normally refers to pork fat with or without some meat in it. Normal English use refers to German culinary uses, particularly of smoked or pickled pork belly.
In Italy and parts of the English-speaking culinary world, the term "Speck" refers to Italian Speck, a type of prosciutto, rather than German Speck, which is identical to the Italian "lardo". The term "Speck" became part of popular parlance only in the eighteenth century and replaced the older term "bachen", a cognate of "bacon".

Richard Speck
Richard Benjamin Speck (December 6, 1941 – December 5, 1991) was an American mass murderer who systematically tortured, raped, and murdered eight student nurses from South Chicago Community Hospital on July 14, 1966.
He was sentenced to death, but that sentence was later overturned due to issues with jury selection at his trial. Speck died of a heart attack after 25 years in prison. In 1996, video tapes featuring Speck were shown before the Illinois State Legislature to highlight some of the illegal activity that took place in prisons.
Early life and crimes
Monmouth, 1941–1950
Richard Benjamin Speck was born in the village of Kirkwood, Illinois, the seventh of eight children of Benjamin Franklin Speck and Mary Margaret Carbaugh Speck. The family moved to Monmouth, Illinois shortly after Speck's birth. Speck and his younger sister, Carolyn, born in 1943, were much younger than their four older sisters and two older brothers (Speck's oldest brother, Robert, died at the age of 23 in an automobile accident in 1952). Speck's father worked as a packer at Western Stoneware in Monmouth and had previously worked as a farmer and logger. Speck was very close to his father, who died in 1947 from a heart attack at the age of 53. Speck was six years old at the time.

Plot: Hal Roach, who no longer owned the rights to his "Our Gang" (aka The Little Rascals") creation, decided to "create" a similar gang of kids, to be known as "Curley and his Gang", and star them in feature-length films shot in Cinecolor. This film is the first effort, and is virtually a remake, with longer running time, of the 1930 "Our Gang" short, "Teacher's Pet." The kids are fretting because their favorite teacher has gotten married and departed town, and they fear her replacement will be not to their liking. When Curley mistakes the aunt of the new replacement as being the new teacher, he and the rest of the kids make plans to discourage her staying. Mortification sets in when the new teacher turns out to be sweet, young and pretty. Jackie Cooper and June Marlowe had the smitten kid/teacher roles in the original. Robert F. McGowan, who directed and wrote the original short, gets story credit here, and was also the Associate Producer.

Preparation:
Mix all the spices and crush them with a pestle and mortar. Portion the pork loin or belly as desired and apply 50 g of the mixed spices (curing mixture, per kg of meat) to the meat and rub well from all sides.
Put every single piece of meat in freezer bags and place them in the fridge. Cure them for 7 days per kg. The optimal temperature is between 4 and 6°C (39-42°F).
Very important is to turn the meat every 2nd day, to ensure that it cures equally.
After the 7 days (per kg), rinse off the excess salt under cold water and blot dry the meat. Put it back to the fridge, this time without a bag, and let it air dry for 2 days.
Place the cured meat in the smokehouse, or any container, which is suitable for cold smoking, and smoke (not higher than 25°C / 77°F) the meat for 5 – 7 days, depending on which intensity of smoke and colour you like.
Very important is that the future Speck needs a 12 h break after 12 h of smoking (one day of smoking consists of 12 h smoke and 12 h break).
Finally hang the Speck at a cool and aired place and let it ripen for 2-3 weeks.

Speck says the Presidio GRIP is drop-rated to 10 ft which was a shock to me since the Speck Candyshell for the iPhone 6 didn't do much for a 6ft drop.
Regardless, I decided to take my chance with my iPhone 7 Plus in the Presidio GRIP and dropped it from about 10 ft. What happened? I'm out an iPhone now.
In my opinion, face first drops are going to be uncommon. I've dropped enough iPhones to know that is most likely going to be a corner that hits first which the Speck will probably perform ok. In reality, there is such a small chance that you'll accidentally drop your iPhone face first and have it land almost parallel against the ground.
You may be thinking that I'm being particularly tough on Speck but the Presidio GRIP is one of the best cases for the iPhone 7 so before I go out of my way to recommend it, I need to know the cases weaknesses.
