Remember this lot? The Killing Heidi reunion is no longer just a one-off show

KILLING Heidi’s reunion is moving closer to being a comeback.

The chart-topping Victorian band announced a one-off show at Queenscliff Music Festival in their home state on November 25.

At the time singer Ella Hooper was calling their re-emergence a reunion.

However demand has seen Killing Heidi join two more Australian festivals — the Handpicked Festival in South Australia on November 12 with The Veronicas and a Kickstar Summer of Music Concert in Western Australia with Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne.

“Jesse and I are truly stoked with the response to the KH reunion news,” Hooper said in a statement.

“It’s been so nice hearing the fans pipe up online and get into the buzz. We’ve always had a special connection with Perth, Adam our drummer is a WA native so we’ve always stayed on after tour to hang out. We’ve played some of our favourite shows ever there for sure and can’t wait to head back.

Adelaide is also a KH stronghold, some of our most loyal fans are there. It’s great to be back and stay tuned for more gig plans across the country!”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Hooper starting the band with brother Jesse in the small town of Violet Town in northeast Victoria.

Their single Mascara hit No. 1 in 1999, with Weir and Live Without It also going Top 10.

Their debut album Reflector also made No. 1 in 2000, selling over 300,000 copies.

Killing Heidi split in 2006.

“It happened after some tour up in New South Wales I think,” Hooper says. “We thought it would be the last run, but not the last show. We knew we were taking a break, we didn’t know we weren’t coming back.”

The Hoopers formed country-tinged band The Verses before Hooper started a solo career where she deliberately avoided playing Killing Heidi songs.

Hooper says she now finally embraces the idea of getting the band back together.

“I’ve missed it. That’s the only reason I would do it. I wouldn’t do it if it was a chore. I’ve been pretty obstinate about it. I’ve turned down a lot of big offers in the past, and have really been begged to do it, and I’ve said no. Now that my heart is in it, it could be amazing.”

However one thing will be missing — Hooper’s once trademark hair.

“No dreads,” she promises.

This year will see Reflector released on digital platforms for the first time.

Hooper released EPs Venom and New Magic, this year.
