Pop up bidder snaps up Murphy St, Oak Park home for $120,000 above reserve

A YOUNG couple have beaten three others to an Oak Park home, snatching up the property for $920,000 in a surprise final bid.

It was a particularly welcome surprise for the vendor of the four-bedroom home at 11 Murphy St, given it was $120,000 above reserve.

Ray White Coburg director Nazih Abbouchi said he expected to achieve between $820,000-$830,000.

“To get $920,000 was, like, wow!” he said.

“There were four bidders in total but then one guy just popped up in the end and bid.”

Mr Abbouchi said many families wanted the tenanted home as it had a lot of potential and was on a 780sq m block.

“We’re seeing a lot of families moving to Oak Park,” he said.

“They’re upsizing and looking for school zones but there’s limited stock.”

Mr Abbouchi said the home had also attracted several investors.

The latest CoreLogic figures reveal Oak Park’s homes attract a median price of $727,075, a jump of 16.3 per cent in the year to June.

However, just 77 homes have sold in this period.
