Sam White Lower Castlereagh Community Group was one of the community representatives attending the Community Development Grants launch at City Hall on 3 June. He tells us about how his organisation benefits the local community, and how Belfast City Council funding has helped them to deliver programmes which encourage residents to become more involved and improve quality of life in east Belfast.

Drive with me along the Lower Braniel Road, in the Castlereagh hills of Belfast and experience the 'joys' of driving along a road that could easily double as an assault course for tank drivers!
We have 17 assorted speed bumps along this 1 mile stretch of surburban residential road! A road that most sensible drivers now avoid using altogether.
To keep the driver 'on his toes', some of the bumps are wide low ramps. Some are are narrow high ramps while other are broken. The driver is therefore never quite sure what to expect until he hits it. This has to be dangerous! It is certainly incredibly annoying and is bound to weaken vehicle suspensions and springs as well as creating extra pollution from continually changing down gears.
I have even seen skate-boarders enjoying using the road and it's ramps for jumps early on a Sunday morning!
Is this the most ramped residential road in the world? Probably!

Community Group
Community Group are a British political party in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, founded in 2001. The Community Group has four councillors serving on Doncaster Metropolitan Borough council.
The party was founded in the wake of a political scandal dubbed "Donnygate" that saw 21 Doncaster councillors convicted of expenses fraud from 1997. The party had 6 borough councillors in Doncaster in 2001. Party leader Martin Williams contested Doncaster North at the 2005 general election against Ed Miliband, receiving 2,365 votes (7.5%, in fourth place). Jessie Credland stood for election as Mayor of Doncaster for the party in 2005, coming fourth with 10,263 votes (9.4%). Garth Oxby defected to become an independent in May 2005 following a deal made with the Labour group for Community Group councillors to be given positions chairing council committees, a deal repeated the following year. Richard Walker and Jessie Credland also later left to sit as independent members. The party lost John Cooke's seat to Labour in 2007. In 2007, the party also had 10 town councillors.

Drive with me along the Lower Braniel Road, in the Castlereagh hills of Belfast and experience the 'joys' of driving along a road that could easily double as an assault course for tank drivers!
We have 17 assorted speed bumps along this 1 mile stretch of surburban residential road! A road that most sensible drivers now avoid using altogether.
To keep the driver 'on his toes', some of the bumps are wide low ramps. Some are are narrow high ramps while other are broken. The driver is therefore never quite sure what to expect until he hits it. This has to be dangerous! It is certainly incredibly annoying and is bound to weaken vehicle suspensions and springs as well as creating extra pollution from continually changing down gears.
I have even seen skate-boarders enjoying using the road and it's ramps for jumps early on a Sunday morning!
Is this the most ramped residential road in the world? Probably!
