SCHOOL children have paid tribute to the fallen at the inaugural students’ Remembrance Day service at Frankston war memorial.

Speaking at the service, Rev Steve Coggins said it was essential to honour the fallen.

“We remember those people who have fought to preserve our peace, our freedom, our justice,” he said.

In a moving speech, Able Seaman Boatswains Mate Rebecca Campbell from HMAS Cerberus recalled her family’s military service.

Her great grandfather served in World War One, her grandfather served during World War Two and both her parents were soldiers in the Army.

She recalled her grandfather’s tales of heartbreak and hard times, but also enduring and lasting friendships made during military service.

Ms Campbell said on Remembrance Day she reflected on the sacrifices of military personnel who effectively gave her the life she had.

Frankston RSL president Kevin Hillier said that on Remembrance Day a grateful nation honoured those who enabled us to live in freedom and peace.

School children placed poppies at the war memorial at the conclusion of the service.
