Lucknow found to be most polluted city second day in a row

LUCKNOW: The capital of Uttar Pradesh was found to be the most polluted city in the country for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for 27 cities in the country, Lucknow's air was the most polluted with PM2.5 as the prominent pollutant.
While there was a dip in pollution levels in Kanpur and Delhi by 45 and 8 micrograms respectively on Wednesday, in Lucknow, the air quality deteriorated with a three-microgram increase in pollution levels as compared to that recorded on Tuesday.
The AQI of Lucknow 494 micrograms/cubic metre, followed by Varanasi 454, Faridabad 437 Delhi 424 Agra 405 and Kanpur 383.- all were under severely polluted category, which means that the pollution even affects healthy people and seriously impacts. The AQI is the average of values recorded from various locations of the city.
As per the CPCB, the PM2.5 concentration in Lucknow was seven times higher than 60 micrograms/cubic metre, the permissible limit set by the National Ambient Air Quality Standard.
The PM2.5 is a particulate matter of diameter less than 2.5 micrometres, about 3% the diameter of a human hair. The most polluted location in Lucknow was Talkatora which recorded 498 micrograms per cubic metre of air followed by Aliganj recording 491 and Lalbagh 484.
