The TV Week Logie Awards are the annual Australian television industry awards, which have been presented annually since 1959. Coined by Graham Kennedy in 1960 after he won the first Star of the Year award, the name Logie awards honours John Logie Baird, who invented television as a practical medium. Awards are given in many categories, but the most widely publicized award is the Gold Logie, which is awarded to the most popular personality on Australian television.
Four Corners, Neighbours, Play School and Home and Away are the only programs that have been inducted collectively into the Logie Hall of Fame. The latest ceremony The Logie Awards of 2016, will be held in May, and for the first time will feature awards for locally produced digital content.
The first awards, known as the TV Week Awards, were instigated by TV Week magazine after the first voting coupons were released in the magazine in late 1958, two years after the introduction of television in Australia. The first awards saw no formal ceremony; they were presented on 15 January 1959 on an episode of In Melbourne Tonight. Only Melbourne television personalities were nominated and awards were given in eight categories, including two for American programs.
The Gold Logie Award for Best Personality on Australian Television, commonly referred to simply as the Gold Logie, is an award presented annually at the Australian TV Week Logie Awards. It was first awarded at the 2nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards, held in 1960 when the award was originally called Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. For the 2016 ceremony, the award was renamed from "Most Popular" to "Best". The winner and nominees of the Gold Logie are chosen by the public through an online voting survey on the TV Week website. Although there have been 56 awards ceremonies, a total of 65 Gold Logies have been won as two Gold Logies, for male and female, were awarded in 1962, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977. Graham Kennedy and Ray Martin hold the record for the most wins with five awards each.

Aly is a staff member of the Global Terrorism Research Centre at Monash University and says that most of the conflicts in the Middle East can be traced to the arbitrary way in which its territories were divided-up by Western powers by the ongoing demand for Middle Eastern oil and more recently by factors such as the invasion of Iraq. After the Boston Marathon bombings, describing terrorism as a "perpetual irritant", he said it is encouraging that we are finally maturing in the way we handle terrorism.
An award is something given to a person, a group of people, or an organization to recognize their excellence in a certain field; a certificate of excellence. Awards are often signified by trophies, titles, certificates, commemorative plaques, medals, badges, pins, or ribbons. An award may carry a monetary prize given to the recipient; for example, the Nobel Prize for contributions to society or the Pulitzer Prize for literary achievements. An award may also simply be a public acknowledgment of excellence, without any tangible token or prize.
Awards can be given by any person or institution, although the prestige of an award usually depends on the status of the awarder. Usually, awards are given by an organization of some sort, or by the office of an official within an organization or government. For instance, a special presidential citation (as given by the President of the United States) is a public announcement giving an official place of honor (e.g., President Ronald Reagan gave a special presidential citation in 1984 to the Disney Channel for its excellent children's television programming.)
