25 Little Known Facts About St. Patrick's Day
Did you know that St. Patrick wasn't Irish? Or that green wasn't even his color? These are 25 little known facts about St. Patrick' Day. https://twitter.com/list25 https://www.facebook.com/list25 http://list25.com Check out the text version too! - http://list25.com/25-little-known-facts-about-st-patricks-day/ Here's a preview: St. Patrick was actually not Irish, he was English. His given name was Maewyn Succat He was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave He tended sheep for 10 years in Ireland before escaping back to England and taking refuge in a monastery. He became a priest and later on took his teachings back to Ireland where he established the Christian Church which got him in trouble with Celtic druids on several occasions After becoming a priest, he changed his name to Patricius, from the Latin term meaning "father figure." Contrary to legend, St Patrick never rid Ireland of snakes because post-glacial Ireland is one of the few countries on Earth that never had any snakes St Patrick's color was actually blue, not green. In fact, most of the country, including its flag, were represented by blue. Green only came later, possibly due to the country's green countryside. After all, Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle. St Patrick's day was actually started in 18th century American cities by persecuted Irish immigrants who were trying to confirm and hold on to their heritage There are more people with Irish ancestry in the United States (34 million) than in Ireland (4.2 million). In Chicago, on St. Patrick's Day, the rivers are dyed green. The first parade in Dublin did not occur until 1931. The holiday wasn't a national holiday in Ireland until 1903. On an average day, 5.5 million pints of Guinness are consumed around the world. That number more then doubles on St. Patrick's Day, with more than 13 million pints From 1903 to 1970 most pubs in Ireland were closed however, because St Patrick's day was a religious holiday. In 1970 it was reclassified as a national holiday and Ireland joined the United States in drinking the day away The phrase, "Drowning The Shamrock" is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. The Irish believe that if you keep the custom, then you will have a prosperous year St. Patrick's Day falls during Lent, but the restriction of drinking alcohol and eating are lifted for the day. This is believed to be the reason why drinking became such a strong St. Patrick's Day tradition. The shamrock is actually not the national symbol of Ireland. The harp is. Apparently Trifolium dubium is the "real shamrock". According to the Irish, other three leaf clovers like Trifolium repens and Medicago lupulina are bogus Irish soda bread is popular on St. Patrick's Day. Sometimes a cross is cut into the dough with a knife before baking to ward off the devil. Contrary to popular belief, corned beef and cabbage is about as Irish as a taco salad After spending most of his life getting beat up in Ireland preaching to druids, St Patrick was largely forgotten after his death on March 17 461 Over the centuries the legends began to crop up and he was eventually declared the patron saint of Ireland The shamrock is worn today because apparently St Patrick picked a three leaf clover off the ground to explain the trinity before the druid king. It too became somewhat of a legend although there is actually nothing Irish about shamrocks. They can be found all over Europe. Your odds of finding a four-leaf clover are about 1 in 10,000- published: 17 Mar 2014

L'homme de l'Atlantide - Patrick Duffy (Générique TV / TV Theme)
Man from Atlantis (French: l'homme de l'Atlantide) is a short-lived American science fiction television series that ran for 13 episodes on the NBC network during the 1977--1978 season. The series stars Patrick Duffy as an amnesiac man given the name of Mark Harris, believed to be the only surviving citizen of the lost civilization of Atlantis. He possesses exceptional abilities, including the ability to breathe underwater and withstand extreme depth pressures, and superhuman strength. His hands and feet are webbed, his eyes are unusually sensitive to light, and he swims using his arms and legs in a fashion suggestive of an underwater butterfly stroke or dolphin kick. Following his discovery, he is recruited by the Foundation for Oceanic Research, a governmental agency that conducts top secret research and explores the depths of the ocean in a sophisticated submarine called the Cetacean.- published: 07 Jul 2014

Saint Patrick's Well, Orvieto Umbria ENG - Orvietoviva.com
During the Sack of Rome in 1527, Pope Clement the Seventh, while being sheltered in Orvieto, ordered Antonio da Sangallo the Young to construct a large well inside the Albornoz Fortress. The 53 meter deep hand-dug well was designed with two DNA-like spiral staircases that never meet. This unique concept was used by Sangallo again for the staircase of the Villa del Belvedere in Vatican City. The well, originally named "Pozzo della Rocca", was later renamed "Saint Patrick's Purgatory", and finally Saint Patrick's Well (Pozzo di San Patrizio). Such name, given in the Nineteenth Century, was inspired by the legend of the Irish Saint, who was well known among the friars that in those years lived in Orvieto, in the nearby convent of Santa Maria dei Servi.- published: 08 Mar 2014

Godzilla 2014 -Universe-G and E.T.N Exclusive Interview Patrick Sabongui Godzilla Cast Member
The excerpt from the first article interview with Patrick Sabongui was posted on Universe-G NOV 10th. The reboot of Godzilla has given fans few inside views of the production of the film. The fans wait impatiently for a release of an official trailer by December and the recent tweet by writer Alex Borenstein saying he has seen a screening of the film only brought a bad taste to mouth of many fans. Today is a different day and we here at Universe-G are working hard to bring you relevant info on the film and maybe give you a view of certain things the cast can tell us. We recently had the opportunity to get in touch with Patrick Sabongui who was casted to play the Tough as nail Master Sargent Marcus Waltz who faces Godzilla and witnesses the creature's awesome powers. We had a chance to interview him and get a behind the scenes view into the film of Godzilla and working under director Gareth Edwards on the film. Patrick has had rolls in major films and TV shows, which include the 300, Watchmen, Immortals, Stargate Atlantis, and the new TV series Almost Human to name a few. St.Patrick's Day-2015 StarkMusik Composer Thomas Schoenberger
St Patrick's day, now known as "St.Partrick's" day, came upon us like a thief in the night....March 17th brought no green beer, nor luck, but what it did bring changed everything March 17th, when the world is given to drunken stupors, and reflective lyrics and a day known as a day in which witches were birthed, was a St.Paddies day like no others.. St.Patrick ( Partrick) had a vision while at sea. I saw a man coming, as it were from Ireland. His name was Victoricus, and he carried many letters, and he gave me one of them. I read the heading: "The Voice of the Irish". As I began the letter, I imagined in that moment that I heard the voice of those very people who were near the wood of Foclut, which is beside the western sea—and they cried out, as with one voice: "We appeal to you, holy servant boy, to come and walk among us.. A Perfect Crime | Patrick Alley | TEDxExeter
A Perfect Crime | Patrick Alley | TEDxExeter
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Patrick Alley's perfect crime involves a whole host of characters. Some are obviously shady, others look like you and I. They destroy habitats, and people's lives and lifestyles. They are involved in industrial logging in the Tropics. Patrick Alley is a director of Global Witness and co-founded the organisation in 1993. He took part in Global Witness' first investigations into the Thai-Khmer Rouge timber trade in 1995. Since then he has taken part in over fifty field investigations in South East Asia, Africa and Europe and in subsequent advocacy activities. In addition to his involvement in the organisation's experience of tackling conflict diamonds and the former Liberian President Charles Taylor's 'arms for timber' trade, Patrick focuses on the issue of conflict resources, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in the past in Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. Patrick also specialises in Global Witness' work on forest and land issues, especially challenging industrial scale logging and land grabbing in the tropics. In addition, he is involved in the strategic leadership of Global Witness. Global Witness was jointly nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for its work on conflict diamonds, which led to the establishment of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, and co-founded the Publish What You Pay Coalition, which in turn led to the creation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. https://twitter.com/Global_Witness At TEDxExeter 2014 our speakers and performers connected us with other worlds. Our talks exposed corruption in big business, shared effective approaches to tackling social inequality and gave a voice to those whose human rights are under threat. We explored the impact of fast changing technologies on all our lives. We journeyed through fire and forest to frozen landscapes. We were challenged to consider worlds of extremes, cutting edge controversies and risky opportunities. Video Production Chromatrope (http://chromatrope.co.uk/) Production Manager Andy Robertson (http://www.youtube.com/familygamertv) About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)- published: 29 Apr 2014

Patrick Redford's The Ninja Tossed-Out Deck System
Patrick Redford's The Ninja Tossed-Out Deck System
A fully examinable Tossed-Out Deck with a normal, full, deck of Cards. After years of keeping this deck system to myself I'm finally releasing it in complete form. With over an hour of instruction, you'll learn how to use this system in virtually any performing environment. What it looks like: The cards are shuffled and the subject holds the deck face down in his hands. He cuts the card anywhere while the performers back is turned. He looks at the top card of the pack and then passes the deck to someone else. That person cuts the deck anywhere and peeks at the new top card and loses it anywhere in the pack before boxing the cards. The cards are then tossed somewhere towards the back of the room. This person takes the deck gives it another cut has a peek at their card and loses it into the pack before reboxing the cards and tossing them back to the performer. Despite these amazing conditions, without any fishing or questions the performer can name all three cards specifically thought of by each of the three subjects. The cards may immediately be given away with nothing to find. You can perform The Ninja Tossed-Out Deck System for one person or five people. You can perform it close-up or on stage. This isn't one secret; its an entire system that you'll always have at the ready to devastate your audiences. Best of all it's easy to learn in minutes. That's just the start! There's so much information jammed packed into this project, never before have I released this information as a whole anywhere else. A form of this has been in my arsenal since 1998. It has fooled and entertained many people. The best part is that everything may be given away. The card box and cards are both examinable and there seems to be nothing to find. The secret system may be put into action right under the audiences noses. The Tossed-Out Deck System involves: No Breathers No Short Cards No Long Cards No Marked Cards No Deck Switches No Alterations to the Cards of Any Kind No Memory Work No Stack Necessary No Fishing Necessary All 52 Cards are Present and Accounted For. Bonus explanations include lessons on how the whole system may be set right in front of your audience with a borrowed deck of cards quickly and without suspect. What you get: You get over an hours worth of video instruction on DVD. You'll also learn how you can borrow a deck of cards and immediately go into the Ninja Tossed-Out Deck System with literally only two seconds worth of work as the cards are taken into hand. If you want to tell people what cards they're thinking of under the most strict looking conditions. You need the Ninja Tossed-Out Deck System.- published: 05 Oct 2013
