The Indian Air Force Chief Arup Raha was all praises for India's first Indigenously built fighter Jet Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas soon after taking first sortie. Air Chief Marshal Raha said, "It is a wonderful aircraft, ready to fly. I had first sortie in this aircraft Tejas. It is a good aircraft and I think its a good aircraft for the airforce to fly", when an HAL officer asked to comment about the his first sortie in the aircraft.
This is for the first time that an Air force chief has flew in the LCA Tejas fighter, the indigenously designed and produced at HAL Bangalore. The 17 May 2016 is a historic day not only for Indian Air Force but for LCA Tejas. It is a major boost for ADA, HAL and DRDO as Air Force Chief heavily praised the aircraft.
The Tejas has been designed by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and produced by HAL at Bangalore. The aircraft is an advanced fly by wire fighter aircraft with state of the art avionics.
The aircraft structure comprises of a large amount (more than 50%) of composites and features a quadruplex digital fly by wire control system.
The Air Chief Marshal carried out manoeuvers in the entire flying envelope of the aircraft. He carried out simulated air to air and air to ground attacks. He also assessed the advanced modes of the radar and Helmet Mounted Display Sight (HMDs). An ace fighter pilot himself, Air Chief Marshal Raha appreciated the flying qualities of the aircraft. He congratulated the entire team of ADA and HAL for their hard work in getting the LCA program to this stage. Later he also presented a gift to the fighter pilot who has flown with him.
The series production of the Tejas aircraft has already commenced at HAL Bangalore and the IAF intends to form the first squadron of the LCA on 01 July 2016 The IAF has also decided to place an order for an additional 80 Tejas in the advanced LCA MK1A configuration. The LCA MK1A will have at least 45 improvements than in the aircraft what Air Chief had flown.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) must be keeping a close watch on the developments surrounding LCA Tejas as their JF-17 could not make much of a fighter and even opt out of dogfight in Bahrain International Air Show where LCA Tejas enthralled the world audience with its air manoeuvers.

India’s elite indigenous fighter jet crosses a major benchmark this week ahead of being deemed combat ready providing the country with a masterful fighter jet at a fraction of the cost of Western fighter jets.
India entered a new era in its budding arms manufacturing industry this week when the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) completed its maiden flight without incident ahead of the vaunted fighter jet being deemed ready for combat applications giving the Indian people a potentially major new industry and saving the country’s taxpayers a massive amount of money on providing for their national defense.
The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) third series production of the Tejas LCA, nicknamed Tejas-SP3, completed its first maiden flight in Bangalore on September 28 with the sortie lasting 15 minutes during which time the performance of the aircraft was tested.
"The flight was restricted to just 15 minutes due to low-hanging clouds, but it was enough to profile it in detail," said Gopal Suttar, spokesman for Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL).
The fighter jet awaits two more test flights in the coming days before the aircraft will be transferred to the possession of the Indian Air Force with the Tejas-SP3 expected to join two earlier Tejas LCA in the Indian Air Force during this year’s 84th Air Force Day parade on October 8th just outside of New Delhi.
Western defense analysts have largely criticized the Tejas LCA as inferior to its Western counterparts citing over 50 flaws in the fighter jet discovered upon analysis – a number that seems overwhelming but is far from unusual for high-end aircraft following production.
The Tejas LCA, however, flies at a swift clip of 1,370 MPH (2204kmh) with advanced thrust shifting capabilities making the jet an elite aircraft for dogfights and its small size provides it will stealth-like characteristics with a reduced radar signature and the jet costs only $33 million per unit compared to $40-50 million for F16s or $100 million for the Rafale.
India also hopes that an indigenous fighter jet will allow the Indian Air Force to modify the jet to its specifics providing it a practical edge in the air unlike with the purchase of Western fighter jets which not only payments to foreign defense contractors but also often slow down repairs and modifications.
The onboard technologies on the Tejas LCA include Beyond Visual Range (BVR) mi$$ile firing capability along with a highly advanced radar system providing for the system to put the nearly three tons of weapons it is certified to carry – including laser-guided 500kg (1,102lbs) bombs and short-range R-73 mi$$iles – to full use.

The development of Tejas, which will be replacing the ageing fleet of workhorse MiG-21s of the IAF, is being closely watched by neighbouring nations such as Pakistan and China, who have jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder, a single-engine, light combat aircraft.
Tejas - India's very own multi-role light combat aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force today ending an agonizing 33-year-old wait. The first squadron of the supersonic jets, called 'Flying Daggers 45', entered the IAF at Bengaluru today (July 1). The squadron will get six more jets by 2017 to make it fully operational. It is expected to reach its full strength by 2018-2020.
"Easily the best aircraft I have flown. It's comparable and on a par with any fourth generation fighter jet in world today," said Group Captain Madhav Rangachari, who took one of the shining jets for a spin at the Bengaluru base.
The development of Tejas, which will be replacing the ageing fleet of workhorse MiG-21s of the IAF, is being closely watched by neighbouring nations such as Pakistan and China, who have jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder, a single-engine, light combat aircraft. However, technical specifications suggest that the JF-17 Thunder is no match for the Tejas.
TEJAS vs JF-17 THUNDER ::
1. Experts describe the supersonic Tejas to be as capable as the Mirage 2000, the French-made fighter jet. In fact, developers at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) used Mirage 2000 as a benchmark for Tejas.
2. Tejas is designed to carry air-to-air, air-to-surface and laser-guided and other weaponry systems. The fly-by-wire technology makes it easier for the pilot to manoeuvre the jet.
3. Tejas is fitted with a new, state-of-the-art Israeli radar, considered to be one of the best in its class. Its radar warning system, which alerts the pilot to enemy aircraft, is made in India.
4. Heavy use of carbon fibre in its fuselage reduces weight of the Tejas, thereby proving better agility. It also helps the aircraft evade enemy radar by absorbing radar waves.
5. The fighter jet's wingspan stands at 8.2metres while its length is 13.20 metres. Tejas stands at 4.40 metres height.
6. The maximum speed of the supersonic jet is 1350 kmph. While the J-17 Thunder needs a minimum 600-metre long runway, Tejas can take off from a 460-metre tarmac.
7. Tejas can operate up to a height of 50,000 feet.
8. Mid-air refuelling is another facility where the Tejas scores over the JF-17 Thunder. The internal fuel capacity of Tejas is 2,458kg, while the JF-17 Thunder is at 2268kg.

HAL Tejas
The HAL Tejas is an Indian single-seat, single-jet engine, multi-role light fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force and Navy. The aircraft has a tail-less compound delta-wing configuration, which gives it high maneuverability. It came from the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, which began in the 1980s to replace India's ageing MiG-21 fighters. LCA was officially named "Tejas" in 2003, meaning "Radiant" in Sanskrit by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Tejas has a pure double delta wing configuration (wing root leading edge sweep 50°, outer wing leading edge sweep 62.5° and trailing edge forw@rd sweep 4°), with no tailplanes or canard, and a single dorsal fin. It integrates technologies such as relaxed static stability, fly-by-wire flight control system, multi-mode radar, integrated digital avionics system, composite material structures, and a flat rated engine. It is the smallest and lightest in its class of contemporary supersonic combat aircraft.
The Tejas is the second supersonic fighter developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) after the HAL HF-24 Marut. As of 2016 the Tejas MK1 was in production for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the naval version was undergoing flight tests for Indian Navy (IN). The projected requirement for IAF is 200 single-seat fighters and 20 twin-seat trainers, while the IN expects to operate 40 single-seat fighters. The first Tejas IAF unit, No. 45 Squadron IAF Flying Daggers was formed on 1 July 2016 with two aircraft. Initially being stationed at Bangalore, the first squadron will be placed at its home base at Sulur, Tamil Nadu.

The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are still being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta.
The Fighting Falcon has key features including a frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, a seat reclined 30 degrees to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot, and the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system which helps to make it a nimble aircraft. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 locations for mounting weapons and other mission equipment. The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper starfighter.
In addition to active duty for U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the USAF aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured to serve in the air forces of 25 other nations. As of 2015, it is the second most common currently operational military aircraft in the world.

Tejas - India's very own multi-role light combat aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force today ending an agonizing 33-year-old wait. The first squadron of the supersonic jets, called 'Flying Daggers 45', entered the IAF at Bengaluru today (July 1). The squadron will get six more jets by 2017 to make it fully operational. It is expected to reach its full strength by 2018-2020. "Easily the best aircraft I have flown. It's comparable and on a par with any fourth generation fighter jet in world today," said Group Captain Madhav Rangachari, who took one of the shining jets for a spin at the Bengaluru base. The development of Tejas, which will be replacing the ageing fleet of workhorse MiG-21s of the IAF, is being closely watched by neighbouring nations such as Pakistan and China, who have jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder, a single-engine, light combat aircraft. However, technical specifications suggest that the JF-17 Thunder is no match for the Tejas. TEJAS vs JF-17 THUNDER :: 1. Experts describe the supersonic Tejas to be as capable as the Mirage 2000, the French-made fighter jet. In fact, developers at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) used Mirage 2000 as a benchmark for Tejas. 2. Tejas is designed to carry air-to-air, air-to-surface and laser-guided and other weaponry systems. The fly-by-wire technology makes it easier for the pilot to manoeuvre the jet. 3. Tejas is fitted with a new, state-of-the-art Israeli radar, considered to be one of the best in its class. Its radar warning system, which alerts the pilot to enemy aircraft, is made in India. 4. Heavy use of carbon fibre in its fuselage reduces weight of the Tejas, thereby proving better agility. It also helps the aircraft evade enemy radar by absorbing radar waves. 5. The fighter jet's wingspan stands at 8.2metres while its length is 13.20 metres. Tejas stands at 4.40 metres height. 6. The maximum speed of the supersonic jet is 1350 kmph. While the J-17 Thunder needs a minimum 600-metre long runway, Tejas can take off from a 460-metre tarmac. 7. Tejas can operate up to a height of 50,000 feet. 8. Mid-air refuelling is another facility where the Tejas scores over the JF-17 Thunder. The internal fuel capacity of Tejas is 2,458kg, while the JF-17 Thunder is at 2268kg. 9. The aircraft has a tail-less compound delta-wing configuration, which gives it high maneuverability. It came from the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, which began in the 1980s to replace India's ageing MiG-21 fighters. LCA was officially named "Tejas" in 2003, meaning "Radiant" in Sanskrit by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Tejas has a pure double delta wing configuration (wing root leading edge sweep 50°, outer wing leading edge sweep 62.5° and trailing edge forw@rd sweep 4°), with no tailplanes or canard, and a single dorsal fin. It integrates technologies such as relaxed static stability, fly-by-wire flight control system, multi-mode radar, integrated digital avionics system, composite material structures, and a flat rated engine. It is the smallest and lightest in its class of contemporary supersonic combat aircraft. The Tejas is the second supersonic fighter developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) after the HAL HF-24 Marut. As of 2016 the Tejas MK1 was in production for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the naval version was undergoing flight tests for Indian Navy (IN). The projected requirement for IAF is 200 single-seat fighters and 20 twin-seat trainers, while the IN expects to operate 40 single-seat fighters. The first Tejas IAF unit, No. 45 Squadron IAF Flying Daggers was formed on 1 July 2016 with two aircraft. Initially being stationed at Bangalore, the first squadron will be placed at its home base at Sulur, Tamil Nadu. General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are still being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta. The Fighting Falcon has key features including a frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, a seat reclined 30 degrees to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot, and the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system which helps to make it a nimble aircraft. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 locations for mounting weapons and other mission equipment. The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper starfighter. In addition to active duty for U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the USAF aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured to serve in the air forces of 25 other nations. The Tejas has been designed by Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and produced by HAL at Bangalore. The aircraft is an advanced fly by wire fighter aircraft with state of the art avionics.
The aircraft structure comprises of a large amount (more than 50%) of composites and features a quadruplex digital fly by wire control system.
The Air Chief Marshal carried out manoeuvers in the entire flying envelope of the aircraft. He carried out simulated air to air and air to ground attacks. He also assessed the advanced modes of the radar and Helmet Mounted Display Sight (HMDs). An ace fighter pilot himself, Air Chief Marshal Raha appreciated the flying qualities of the aircraft. He congratulated the entire team of ADA and HAL for their hard work in getting the LCA program to this stage. Later he also presented a gift to the fighter pilot who has flown with him.
The series production of the Tejas aircraft has already commenced at HAL Bangalore and the IAF intends to form the first squadron of the LCA on 01 July 2016 The IAF has also decided to place an order for an additional 80 Tejas in the advanced LCA MK1A configuration. The LCA MK1A will have at least 45 improvements than in the aircraft what Air Chief had flown.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) must be keeping a close watch on the developments surrounding LCA Tejas as their JF-17 could not make much of a fighter and even opt out of dogfight in Bahrain International Air Show where LCA Tejas enthralled the world audience with its air manoeuvers.

India’s elite indigenous fighter jet crosses a major benchmark this week ahead of being deemed combat ready providing the country with a masterful fighter jet at a fraction of the cost of Western fighter jets.
India entered a new era in its budding arms manufacturing industry this week when the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) completed its maiden flight without incident ahead of the vaunted fighter jet being deemed ready for combat applications giving the Indian people a potentially major new industry and saving the country’s taxpayers a massive amount of money on providing for their national defense.
The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) third series production of the Tejas LCA, nicknamed Tejas-SP3, completed its first maiden flight in Bangalore on September 28 with the sortie lasting 15 minutes during which time the performance of the aircraft was tested.
"The flight was restricted to just 15 minutes due to low-hanging clouds, but it was enough to profile it in detail," said Gopal Suttar, spokesman for Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL).
The fighter jet awaits two more test flights in the coming days before the aircraft will be transferred to the possession of the Indian Air Force with the Tejas-SP3 expected to join two earlier Tejas LCA in the Indian Air Force during this year’s 84th Air Force Day parade on October 8th just outside of New Delhi.
Western defense analysts have largely criticized the Tejas LCA as inferior to its Western counterparts citing over 50 flaws in the fighter jet discovered upon analysis – a number that seems overwhelming but is far from unusual for high-end aircraft following production.
The Tejas LCA, however, flies at a swift clip of 1,370 MPH (2204kmh) with advanced thrust shifting capabilities making the jet an elite aircraft for dogfights and its small size provides it will stealth-like characteristics with a reduced radar signature and the jet costs only $33 million per unit compared to $40-50 million for F16s or $100 million for the Rafale.
India also hopes that an indigenous fighter jet will allow the Indian Air Force to modify the jet to its specifics providing it a practical edge in the air unlike with the purchase of Western fighter jets which not only payments to foreign defense contractors but also often slow down repairs and modifications.
The onboard technologies on the Tejas LCA include Beyond Visual Range (BVR) mi$$ile firing capability along with a highly advanced radar system providing for the system to put the nearly three tons of weapons it is certified to carry – including laser-guided 500kg (1,102lbs) bombs and short-range R-73 mi$$iles – to full use.

The development of Tejas, which will be replacing the ageing fleet of workhorse MiG-21s of the IAF, is being closely watched by neighbouring nations such as Pakistan and China, who have jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder, a single-engine, light combat aircraft.
Tejas - India's very own multi-role light combat aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air Force today ending an agonizing 33-year-old wait. The first squadron of the supersonic jets, called 'Flying Daggers 45', entered the IAF at Bengaluru today (July 1). The squadron will get six more jets by 2017 to make it fully operational. It is expected to reach its full strength by 2018-2020.
"Easily the best aircraft I have flown. It's comparable and on a par with any fourth generation fighter jet in world today," said Group Captain Madhav Rangachari, who took one of the shining jets for a spin at the Bengaluru base.
The development of Tejas, which will be replacing the ageing fleet of workhorse MiG-21s of the IAF, is being closely watched by neighbouring nations such as Pakistan and China, who have jointly developed the JF-17 Thunder, a single-engine, light combat aircraft. However, technical specifications suggest that the JF-17 Thunder is no match for the Tejas.
TEJAS vs JF-17 THUNDER ::
1. Experts describe the supersonic Tejas to be as capable as the Mirage 2000, the French-made fighter jet. In fact, developers at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) used Mirage 2000 as a benchmark for Tejas.
2. Tejas is designed to carry air-to-air, air-to-surface and laser-guided and other weaponry systems. The fly-by-wire technology makes it easier for the pilot to manoeuvre the jet.
3. Tejas is fitted with a new, state-of-the-art Israeli radar, considered to be one of the best in its class. Its radar warning system, which alerts the pilot to enemy aircraft, is made in India.
4. Heavy use of carbon fibre in its fuselage reduces weight of the Tejas, thereby proving better agility. It also helps the aircraft evade enemy radar by absorbing radar waves.
5. The fighter jet's wingspan stands at 8.2metres while its length is 13.20 metres. Tejas stands at 4.40 metres height.
6. The maximum speed of the supersonic jet is 1350 kmph. While the J-17 Thunder needs a minimum 600-metre long runway, Tejas can take off from a 460-metre tarmac.
7. Tejas can operate up to a height of 50,000 feet.
8. Mid-air refuelling is another facility where the Tejas scores over the JF-17 Thunder. The internal fuel capacity of Tejas is 2,458kg, while the JF-17 Thunder is at 2268kg.

The aircraft has a tail-less compound delta-wing configuration, which gives it high maneuverability. It came from the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, which began in the 1980s to replace India's ageing MiG-21 fighters. LCA was officially named "Tejas" in 2003, meaning "Radiant" in Sanskrit by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Tejas has a pure double delta wing configuration (wing root leading edge sweep 50°, outer wing leading edge sweep 62.5° and trailing edge forw@rd sweep 4°), with no tailplanes or canard, and a single dorsal fin. It integrates technologies such as relaxed static stability, fly-by-wire flight control system, multi-mode radar, integrated digital avionics system, composite material structures, and a flat rated engine. It is the smallest and lightest in its class of contemporary supersonic combat aircraft.
The Tejas is the second supersonic fighter developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) after the HAL HF-24 Marut. As of 2016 the Tejas MK1 was in production for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the naval version was undergoing flight tests for Indian Navy (IN). The projected requirement for IAF is 200 single-seat fighters and 20 twin-seat trainers, while the IN expects to operate 40 single-seat fighters. The first Tejas IAF unit, No. 45 Squadron IAF Flying Daggers was formed on 1 July 2016 with two aircraft. Initially being stationed at Bangalore, the first squadron will be placed at its home base at Sulur, Tamil Nadu.
General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon
The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4,500 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are still being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta.
The Fighting Falcon has key features including a frameless bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, a seat reclined 30 degrees to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot, and the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system which helps to make it a nimble aircraft. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 locations for mounting weapons and other mission equipment. The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, due to a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Battlestar Galactica Colonial Viper starfighter.
In addition to active duty for U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the USAF aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured to serve in the air forces of 25 other nations. As of 2015, it is the second most common currently operational military aircraft in the world.

In addition to active duty for U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and Air National Guard units, the aircraft is also used by the USAF aerial demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and as an adversary/aggressor aircraft by the United States Navy. The F-16 has also been procured to serve in the air forces of 25 other nations. As of 2015, it is the second most common currently operational military aircraft in the world.
