TV Channel info/news, about sinking of the M/S Estonia in 28th septembre 1994.
Since Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict in 2014, nearby Baltic states have been on high alert. Estonia, the smallest country in the region, signed a military equipment deal worth 138 million euros ($147 million) last December — the largest procurement in its history.
The country also has a growing militia, known as the Estonian Defense League, made up of 15,000 volunteers. They take part in war scenario exercises, with many of the members keeping firearms of their own at home. Should Estonia's sovereignty be threatened, the militia will be called upon to defend it at all costs.
The organization's membership has risen by 10 percent since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, partly based on national Estonian fears that Russia will attempt to breach its eastern border. NATO has increased its fighter jets and ground troops in the country, as a show of what they say is support to its ally, yet Russia has claimed this is "provocative" and held its own military exercises near the border.
VICE News follows 800 members of the Estonian Defense League on a combat training exercise to find out how they are preparing for a possible confrontation. We also meet with US NATO air support and speak to ethnic Russians in the Estonian border city of Narva.

The Baltic states, all close to Russia, have no fighter-aircraft and have for years been dependent on the alliance for protection.
Four RAF Typhoon fighters are part of a NATO force of 20 jets now guarding the Baltics.
A total of 100 British troops arrived in Estonia for a training exercise with that country's defence forces, along with the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond.

Estonia (
i/ɛˈstoʊniə/;Estonian: Eesti [ˈeːsti]), officially the Republic of Estonia (Estonian: Eesti Vabariik), is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the south by Latvia (343 km), and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia (338.6 km). Across the Baltic Sea lies Sweden in the west and Finland in the north. The territory of Estonia consists of a mainland and 2,222 islands and islets in the Baltic Sea, covering 45,339 km2 (17,505 sq mi) of land, and is influenced by a humid continental climate.
Estonia is a democratic parliamentary republic divided into fifteen counties, with its capital and largest city being Tallinn. With a population of 1.3 million, it is one of the least-populous member states of the European Union, Eurozone, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the OECD and the Schengen Area. Ethnic Estonians are Finnic people, and the official language, Estonian, is a Finno-Ugric language closely related to Finnish and the Sami languages, and distantly to Hungarian.

Since Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict in 2014, nearby Baltic states have been on high alert. Estonia, the smallest country in the region, signed a military equipment deal worth 138 million euros ($147 million) last December — the largest procurement in its history.
The country also has a growing militia, known as the Estonian Defense League, made up of 15,000 volunteers. The geopolitical location of Estonia, its compactness, logistical abilities, and thousands of years of experience in communicating towards the northern, the western and the eastern direction give us a unique position.
We belong to the North and form a part of one of the most valuable regions of Europe, the core of which is Scandinavia. This is also expressed in our sense of aesthetics, our appearance and temper.
Common logic would say that we don't have an attractive sales market. The practice, however, has proven that Estonia has a considerable development and production platform for International knowledge-based companies (such as Skype, Ericsson, ABB etc.).
As a border state of the European Union, we also have a highly developed logistic infrastructure that successfully enables to move goods, knowledge and people on the eastern-western direction.
Doing Business in Estonia is Easy
Estonia has an investment-friendly taxation system, and transparent and functioning legislation. We aim at liberal economic policy where private property is sacred and untouchable and all entrepreneurs are treated equally.
As we have modest market volumes, there is no direct need for artificial protection of our own market participants. Therefore all new investors and external partners are just as welcome here as the entrepreneurs who have operated here for years.
Economic freedom, ease of doing business rating, per capita investments, the record-low national debt, belonging to the euro zone, low corruption index -- all these factors show that there is something about Estonia that is worth taking a closer look at. We are like the Switzerland of the North, only our taxation system is considerably more up-to-date and user-friendly.

So I am loving Tallinn, Estonia. I think this is actually my fifth time in Europe but this maybe my favorite city ever. It's just very medieval, very charming, really cute and the food. The feast that we had just now was amazing. That just put the city up to the very top.
So it is now nine o'clock. It is still daylight out but it is the end of our day. It's time to go catch our ferry back to Helsinki, so we are saying goodbye to Tallinn and I am very sad to be leaving. I thought it was such a great city to visit.

So if you come to this restaurant you get a drink that is called the Monk's bride. Cheers. Now let's see what this tastes like. Mmmmm. Oh, it's very sweet and concentrated. A little bit like cough syrup. Is this liquor? Is this alcohol? It must be! It smells really good. It smells like cinnamon a bit.
Over here I have ordered myself Neptune's feast and if you look down at the plate we have some grilled salmon, some smoked salmon, a little cute fish, some hummus with caviar, we have quail eggs and some delicious rye bread. So let's dig in!
Let's try some of this. It looks so good. I don't even like caviar but I'm going to eat this because it looks amazing. Oh yeah. That is some amazing garlicy hummus. I'm so happy. Save some for me!
This is a darker bread. It appears that there is some kinds of seeds and nuts in it. I'm also going to try some hummus on top. Oh, wow. Amazing isn't it? I forgot what good bread tasted like. Fresh out of the oven.
Eat the little fish! Come on! Oh, with its tail and everything. Well? It's really salty. Your favorite? No.
I feel like I should cut this down the middle. So this is a quail egg? Or maybe I should just stick it in my mouth. Pop it in - one go. A little hummus for extra flavoring. Oh, it's like white inside. It tastes like egg.
Let's see how that salmon tastes. It just melts in the mouth. If I had to eat salmon every day the rest of my life I wouldn't be complaining.
That was a delicious feast and now it is time for dessert. We are having some kind of rose pudding which has flower pedals on top. You can have a flower pedal. Is it sweet? Oh yeah. What does it taste like? It's creamy and fluffy and sugary. It's like eating cloud.
A big spoonful. It's like clotted cream with sugar. It is. It kind of reminds me of kind of a soft cheesecake filling.

We are in Tallinn, Estonia this afternoon and we have decided to stop for a Medieval feast at a restaurant that is called Olde Hansa.
As we're just about to get Medieval on you we're waiting for a fair Maiden to come take our order. And what might you be drinking over there sir? With my Medieval sized cup I have a Medieval portion of root beer inside. Oh, take a sip of that! Oh wow, that's genuine root beer. I can taste root. That's not the artificial stuff you get back in Canada. Really? I want to try some.

So if you come to this restaurant you get a drink that is called the Monk's bride. Cheers. Now let's see what this tastes like. Mmmmm. Oh, it's very sweet and concentrated. A little bit like cough syrup. Is this liquor? Is this alcohol? It must be! It smells really good. It smells like cinnamon a bit.
Over here I have ordered myself Neptune's feast and if you look down at the plate we have some grilled salmon, some smoked salmon, a little cute fish, some hummus with caviar, we have quail eggs and some delicious rye bread. So let's dig in!
Let's try some of this. It looks so good. I don't even like caviar but I'm going to eat this because it looks amazing. Oh yeah. That is some amazing garlicy hummus. I'm so happy. Save some for me!
This is a darker bread. It appears that there is some kinds of seeds and nuts in it. I'm also going to try some hummus on top. Oh, wow. Amazing isn't it? I forgot what good bread tasted like. Fresh out of the oven.
Eat the little fish! Come on! Oh, with its tail and everything. Well? It's really salty. Your favorite? No.
I feel like I should cut this down the middle. So this is a quail egg? Or maybe I should just stick it in my mouth. Pop it in - one go. A little hummus for extra flavoring. Oh, it's like white inside. It tastes like egg.
Let's see how that salmon tastes. It just melts in the mouth. If I had to eat salmon every day the rest of my life I wouldn't be complaining.
That was a delicious feast and now it is time for dessert. We are having some kind of rose pudding which has flower pedals on top. You can have a flower pedal. Is it sweet? Oh yeah. What does it taste like? It's creamy and fluffy and sugary. It's like eating cloud.
A big spoonful. It's like clotted cream with sugar. It is. It kind of reminds me of kind of a soft cheesecake filling.

So in this area they have all the private cabins for people who are doing an overnight cruise.
This is definitely one of the largest ferries I've ever been on. There is actually nine different levels as you can see from this map.
Wow, the weather has really changed. Within just 10 minutes we went from clear sunny skies to foggy, windy weather. We're not even out there on the deck right anymore.
So we're now pulling into the harbor here in Tallinn, Estonia and it is a chilly nineteen degrees. It doesn't feel like summer.

But still the life expectancy of Estonians remains about three years shorter than the average across EU and OECD countries. The available time series for the indicator of healthy life years is more limited, but it shows that there has not been much progress in recent years in life expectancy without disability in Estonia and that the gap with the EU average is even larger. This presentation will draw on the most recent edition of the OECD publication Health at a Glance to highlight some of the current strengths and weaknesses of public health and health system performance in Estonia from an international perspective. It will also go on to discuss some of the main challenges ahead to further improve the policy relevancy of health statistics, in Estonia, as in other EU and OECD countries, to achieve the goal of providing better data, for better health policies, for better health for the population.

In the Estonian city of Pärnu from 22 to 26 July on the track "Audru" within the racing series Gran Turismo 70 sport luxury cars competed in speed. They arrived from Stockholm, their total value exceeds 10 millions euros. The most expensive of them – Lamborghini Aventador – worth of 400 thousand euros. MS Estonia Mayday Call With Subtitles, Tribute R.I.P. ESTONIA, 1980-1994 Estonia was sunk in the september 28th, 1994 at 1:50 AM. (GMT +2) At the time of the accident there were 989 people on the ship, of whom 852 lost their lives. The wreck rests in about 80 meters of water. The wreck is located approximately 22 nautical miles (40 kilometres) south-southeast of the island of Utö. The Sinking of the Estonia The Baltic Sea claimed 852 people's lives by drowning and freezing them to death in the 8 degree C cold water. Only 95 bodies were ever recovered. The wreck of the Estonia was not salvaged, but sealed, covered in sand and declared an official burial ground. The 150 metre long Estonia left the Estonian capital Tallin and sailed into a raging Baltic Sea. Unlike the other car ferries on the route, the Estonia ran at full speed into waves more than 15 meters tall. Six hours into the voyage, she sank to a depth of more than 75 metres. The first sign of danger was the sound of metal scraping against metal. The sound was caused by the weakly constructed locks on the bow visor breaking under the strain of the waves. The Sinking of the Estonia
The Baltic Sea claimed 852 people's lives by drowning and freezing them to death in the 8 degree C cold water. Only 95 bodies were ever recovered. The wreck of the Estonia was not salvaged, but sealed, covered in sand and declared an official burial ground.
The 150 metre long Estonia left the Estonian capital Tallin and sailed into a raging Baltic Sea. Unlike the other car ferries on the route, the Estonia ran at full speed into waves more than 15 meters tall. Six hours into the voyage, she sank to a depth of more than 75 metres.
The first sign of danger was the sound of metal scraping against metal. The sound was caused by the weakly constructed locks on the bow visor breaking under the strain of the waves. The visor eventually broke off of the ship, uncovering the opening to the car deck behind. Water rushed in and destabilised the ship, starting a catastrophic chain of events that brought the ship down.
Without warning, the vessel lurched some 20 degrees to starboard, and would continue to tilt to 90 degrees. Passengers were in danger of getting crushed under falling equipment. At such an angle, it was all but impossible to move around. Those who were going to survive had already reached the deck. Tragically, by then most of the lifeboats could not be released due to sideways tilt of the ship. Soon, the ferry slipped beneath the waves into a watery grave.
The Estonia disaster occurred on Wednesday, 28 September 1994, between about 00:55 to 01:50.

Situada en el norte de Europa y a orillas del golfo de Finlandia, Madrileños por el Mundo visita Estonia. La que fuera motor económico de la antigua Unión Soviética, sufrió una profunda transformación estética y política tras su independencia en 1991, apostando por la innovación y la modernidad. Su capital, Tallin, acoge anualmente miles de turistas de todo el mundo.
Nuestro primer madrileño, Neftalí, de Moncloa, trabaja en Estonia como profesor de español. Nos recibe en el Parque de Kadriorg, donde se encuentra el Palacio de verano de la zarina Catalina I, que actualmente acoge un museo de arte clásico. En este mismo parque se ubica el Palacio Presidencial, donde reside el Presidente de la República de Estonia.
Neftalí nos lleva al Hotel Viru, construido en el año 1972, en cuya planta 23 se encuentra el Museo de la KGB, un antiguo centro de escucha de los espías rusos. Nos trasladamos al casco histórico de Tallin, la ciudad fortaleza mejor conservada de Europa. Sus murallas acogen el antiguo cuartel general de la KGB, donde se interrogaba a los considerados “enemigos del Estado” y desde el cual muchos fueron deportados a Siberia.
En un tranvía fabricado en España nos trasladamos a orillas del mar Báltico para despedirnos de Neftalí en la Prisión de Patarei, una antigua fortaleza naval construida por el zar Nicolás I, y convertida en cárcel en 1919 para retener a los disidentes políticos.
Volvemos a la capital de Estonia, para conocer a nuestro segundo madrileño, Iván de Alcalá de Henares. Con él recorremos el destino turístico más importante del país. La ciudad de Tallin es Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO desde 1997. Sus calles empedradas acogen espectáculos medievales que nos trasladan quinientos años atrás.
En la plaza central se encuentra el Ayuntamiento de Tallin, un edificio gótico en el que destaca su alto campanario. En esta plaza se colocó el primer árbol de navidad del mundo en 1441. Debajo del Ayuntamiento visitamos un auténtico bar medieval, donde degustamos la típica sopa de alce. Continuamos nuestro recorrido hasta la Iglesia de San Olaf, con su torre de 159 metros, fue en el momento de su construcción el edificio más alto del mundo. Si te atreves a subir sus 258 escalones disfrutarás de unas estupendas vistas de toda la ciudad.
Seguimos recorriendo el centro para visitar el edificio del Parlamento de Estonia. Continuamos hasta la Catedral Ortodoxa de Alexander Nevsky, construida como símbolo del dominio imperial ruso, es patrimonio de la UNESCO desde 1997. Iván nos enseña también la Torre de Comunicaciones, que fue tomada por los estonios durante el proceso de independencia del país para evitar que Moscú se hiciera con la TV. Nos despedimos de Iván en el Museo Etnográfico de Rocca al Mare, un pueblo museo donde encontramos las típicas casas rurales estonias del siglo XVII.
Nuestro siguiente madrileño, Jorge, vino de Carabanchel a Estonia para completar sus estudios. Nos recibe en el sureste de Estonia, en la ciudad de Tartu, la segunda más grande del país. Esta es una ciudad pionera que ha invertido en desarrollo y nuevas tecnologías. Aquí se inventó el programa “Skype” y todas sus calles cuentan con conexión wifi gratuíta. Visitamos el edificio más emblemático de la ciudad, la Universidad de Tartu. Esta pequeña ciudad acoge ocho universidades, lo que la convierte en referencia en del Norte de Europa. En su interior visitamos una “celda de castigo” para estudiantes que data del siglo XIX.
Atravesamos el Puente del Ángel, pidiendo un deseo como manda la tradición, y llegamos a las ruinas de la antigua Catedral de Tartu, destruida en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, para conocer su leyenda.
A cinco minutos del centro de Tartu visitamos una antigua base militar soviética, donde se está construyendo el futuro Museo Nacional. Y nos despedimos de Jorge en la escuela de flamenco donde toca la guitarra, la “Casa Flor”.
Seguimos en Tartu para encontrar a nuestro siguiente madrileño, Germán, un cantante de ópera del barrio de Chamartín, que actualmente trabaja en el Teatro Vanemuine. Con Germán disfrutamos de un vaso de Kali, una bebida típica estonia hecha con pan negro fermentado, mientras nos acercamos a la Plaza del Ayuntamiento donde se encuentra la “fuente de los amantes” en la que los estudiantes se bañan para tener suerte en su carrera.
Después de visitar el Museo de juguetes, que está instalado en uno de los edificios más antiguos de la ciudad y acoge unos sesenta mil juguetes de diferentes épocas; nos trasladamos al pub más alto del mundo. Conocido como “sótano de pólvora”, este pub se ha construido excavando dentro de una colina en el siglo XVIII.
Con Germán navegamos por el río Emajogi, que baña la ciudad de Tartu, y nos despedimos contemplando la exuberante naturaleza y las mansiones que lo rodean.
