SMART INVESTOR EXPANDS REACH AS A NIM INSIDE THE AFR

December 9, 2014

Smart Investor magazine will double its potential audience* of sophisticated investors as a newspaper inserted magazine (NIM) published inside pre-eminent national financial daily, The Australian Financial Review, from the magazine’s April 2015 issue.

The magazine will be available on the third Friday of every month and continue to provide the most relevant, accurate and independent personal investment content available in the market.

The shift into the Financial Review enhances the offering to the newspaper’s readers and will enable advertisers to reach an expanded premium audience.

“The Smart Investor that readers know and love will remain and we will add to that experience, delivering more expert advice and insights on how to best manage their wealth,” Smart Investor Editor James Frost said.

Smart Investor magazine will be revitalised with several new expert columnists and sections, focused on helping readers to make informed investment decisions via extensive coverage of core topics, such as Australian large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap shares, bonds, property and specialist investments.

New columns will focus on the economy and international investing and a special ‘My DIY’ section will talk to readers who operate a self-managed superannuation fund.

New columnists include: AFR journalist and author, Trevor Sykes; chief investment officer of Melbourne-based investment boutique Escala Partners, Giselle Roux; AFR economics correspondent, Jacob Greber; and equity analyst Stewart Oldfield. AFR Chanticleer columnist Michael Smith will write a monthly column called ‘Nest Egg’.

Smart Investor’s website, afrsmartinvestor.com.au, will become free and the daily e-newsletter will break news that readers can act upon immediately.

Every Wednesday, the Smart Investor section in The Australian Financial Review will continue to be published and feature columnists including Wilson Asset Management’s Chris Stott and Forager Funds Management’s Steve Johnson.

“Smart Investor will be a must-read for the core AFR audience, because while our readers are highly skilled in business, finance and politics, in a world of fast-moving markets and frequent regulatory changes, they often need advice on how to navigate their personal financial affairs,” Frost said. “Smart Investor is the only magazine of its kind and will give sophisticated investors yet another reason to purchase the Financial Review on a Friday.”

The April 2015 issue of Smart Investor will be available in the Financial Review on Friday, 20 March 2015. The final newsstand issues of Smart Investor will be available from 12 December 2014, 16 January 2015 and 20 February 2015.

Smart Investor subscribers will be contacted with exclusive Financial Review subscription options from February 2015.
