Emergency services have had to lift a train off a young woman who had fallen from a platform at Flinders Street Station on Friday.
The 23-year-old woman's three-year-old son was on the platform at the time and was uninjured.
The boy was carried away by police wearing one of the officer's caps.
It's believed the woman suffered lower leg injuries after she fell in front of a train arriving at platform one.
Police are treating the incident as self-harm.
MFB central control commander Rick Gili said firefighters had to use heavy haulage equipment to lift the train off the woman, while paramedics worked on the woman's injuries from underneath.
The platform has been reopened and Metro have reported that normal services are being restored on most lines.
Mr Gili said his crew had just come from another horrific job in Port Melbourne where an elderly woman suffered significant burns.
She had lit a candle to mark the anniversary of he husband's death, when the fire spread to a dried floral arrangement, then to her top, causing significant injuries.
