According to Showtime, the Badou Jack-James DeGale super middleweight world title unification fight on Jan. 14 will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Of course, before that can become official, the promoters must have a New York State Athletic Commission-approved insurance policy that adheres to the new law in New York regarding insurance for boxing events.

The New York State Supreme Court granted dismissal Thursday of K2 Promotions as a defendant in the civil lawsuit Magomed Abdusalamov's family filed after the heavyweight suffered severe brain damage in a Nov. 2, 2013, bout with Mike Perez at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. The suit, focusing primarily on the actions of state athletic commission doctors, alleges recklessness, gross negligence and medical malpractice. K2, which promoted the fight, is the second defendant to be released from the case, joining MSG, which was dismissed from it 21 months ago. In July, a state inspector general's investigative report ripped the commission for its handling of Abdusalamov that night. Five commission doctors, its inspector and the referee remain as defendants. The suit is in the deposition stage.

As he prepares for a UFC 205 bout Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, undefeated lightweight Khabib "The Eagle" Nurmagomedov has countryman Magomed Abdusalamov on his mind. "Mago" suffered a disabling brain injury in his heavyweight boxing match at The Garden three years ago. "The Eagle" visited him this week. "I lived near him in Makhachkala [capital of the Russian Republic of Dagestan], he's a great man and I always visit him when I come to New York," Nurmagomedov told Outside the Lines. "But I'm very upset, because his condition has gotten worse." Mago's wife told OTL that she is not giving up, although he remains unable to walk or talk and he's increasingly passive about his therapy.
