Ian Blurton is a Canadian musician and record producer. He was born in Champaign, IL in 1965, and moved to Toronto in 1973
He has been a part of Toronto's indie music scene since the early 1980s, playing drums in the original line-ups for Cowboy Junkies and A Neon Rome before becoming the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Change of Heart. He also performed on Jolly Tambourine Man's single "Apple Strudel Man".
After dissolving Change of Heart in late 1997, Blurton subsequently formed Blurtonia. He was then briefly a member of Bionic before forming C'mon in 2003 with his girlfriend, bassist Katie Lynn Campbell, formerly of Nashville Pussy, and drummer Randy Curnew. Curnew left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Dean Dallas Bentley. In late October, 2011, C'mon played their final show at the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto, ON.
In the fall of 2009, Blurton released his first official solo album, Happy Endings. Almost five years in the making, the album marked a departure from Blurton's work with C'mon in that it represented a number of different genres, including a great deal of psychedelic material. While Blurton played and sang much of the album himself, it also featured appearances from former Change of Heart/Danko Jones drummer Damon Richardson, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, and Raising the Fawn's Scott Remila. For live reproduction of the record beginning in late 2009, Blurton enlisted a Hamilton, Ontario group called Huron to back him, having recently produced their debut album.

Eddie James "Son" House, Jr. (March 21, 1902 – October 19, 1988) was an American blues singer and guitarist, noted for his highly emotional style of singing and slide guitar playing.
After years of hostility to secular music, as a preacher, and for a few years also as a church pastor, he turned to blues performance at the age of 25. He quickly developed a unique style by applying the rhythmic drive, vocal power and emotional intensity of his preaching to the newly learned idiom. In a short career interrupted by a spell in Parchman Farm penitentiary, he developed to the point that Charley Patton, the foremost blues artist of the Mississippi Delta region, invited him to share engagements, and to accompany him to a 1930 recording session for Paramount Records.
Issued at the start of The Great Depression, the records did not sell and did not lead to national recognition. Locally, Son remained popular, and in the 1930s, together with Patton's associate, Willie Brown, he was the leading musician of Coahoma County. There he was a formative influence on Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. In 1941 and 1942, House and the members of his band were recorded by Alan Lomax and John W. Work for Library of Congress and Fisk University. The following year, he left the Delta for Rochester, New York, and gave up music.
Booker T. Washington "Bukka" White (November 12, 1909 – February 26, 1977) was an American Delta blues guitarist and singer. "Bukka" is a phonetic spelling of White's first name, though he preferred "Booker."
Born south of Houston, Mississippi, White was a first cousin of B.B. King's mother (White's mother and King's grandmother were sisters). White himself is remembered as a player of National resonator guitars. He also played, but was less adept at, the piano.
White started his career playing the fiddle at square dances. He claims to have met Charlie Patton early on, although some doubt has been cast upon this; regardless, Patton was a large influence on White. White typically played slide guitar, in an open tuning. He was one of the few, along with Skip James, to use a crossnote tuning in E minor, which he may have learned, as James did, from Henry Stuckey.
He first recorded for Victor Records in 1930. His recordings for Victor, like those of many other bluesmen, fluctuated between country blues and gospel numbers. Victor published his photograph in 1930. His gospel songs were done in the style of Blind Willie Johnson, with a female singer accentuating the last phrase of each line.
"Blind" Lemon Jefferson (born Lemon Henry Jefferson; September 24, 1893 – December 19, 1929) was an American blues and gospel singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Texas. He was one of the most popular blues singers of the 1920s, and has been called "Father of the Texas Blues".
Jefferson's performances were distinctive due to his high-pitched voice and the originality of his guitar playing. Although his recordings sold well, he was not so influential on some younger blues singers of his generation, who could not imitate him as easily as they could other commercially successful artists. Later blues and rock and roll musicians, however, did attempt to imitate both his songs and his musical style.
Jefferson was born blind, near Coutchman in Freestone County, near present-day Wortham, Texas. He was the youngest of seven (or possibly eight) children born to sharecroppers Alex and Clarissa Jefferson. Disputes regarding his exact birth date derive from contradictory census records and draft registration records. By 1900, the family was farming southeast of Streetman, Texas, and Lemon Jefferson's birth date is indicated as September 1893 in the 1900 census. The 1910 census, taken in May before his birthday, further confirms his year of birth as 1893, and indicated the family was farming northwest of Wortham, near Lemon Jefferson's birthplace.

On Sunday, June 12, I met with Ian Blurton of C'Mon, Bionic, Blurtonia and Change of Heart fame. We chatted for around 15 minutes about bands (duh), producing, recording and even hockey (though I was probably a lot more excited about the hockey part). In addition to being one of the most influential figures in the Canadian independent rock scene for the past 3 decades, Ian is just an overall, down to earth, nice guy. After the camera stopped rolling we recommended a few bands to each other, and he was even nice enough to ask me a few questions about my band (even if he was humoring me ;-). http://www.musicsheblogged.com/ http://evilshananigans.blogspot.com/

Carving out a Niche for Stem Cells Air date: Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 3:00:00 PM Runtime: 01:04:50 Description: Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series Typically, the genetic cause of a disease is identified by studying the DNA of affected individuals, finding the responsible gene, and trying to understand how a mutated version might have coded for a defective protein that led to the disease. Dr. Fuchs, however, has pioneered "reverse genetics": She starts with the protein abnormality and works backwards to identify the human disease. She has applied this strategy to elucidate the genetic basis of a number of blistering skin disorders and tumors. In this lecture she will focus on stem cells, the long-lived cells of our body that allow tissues to replace dying cells and repair wounds....
