Bruce Adler (November 27, 1944 – July 25, 2008) was an American Broadway actor. After debuting on the Broadway stage in the 1979 revival of Oklahoma!, he went on to a career that saw him nominated for Tony Awards as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Those Were the Days (1991) and Crazy For You (1992). His film work was limited to voice work in animated films, notably providing the singing voice for the narrator of the 1992 Disney film Aladdin and the 1996 sequel Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
Born in New York City, Adler's parents, Henrietta Jacobson and Julius Adler, and his two maternal uncles, Irving and Hymie Jacobson were well-established popular stars of the Yiddish theatre, at the time in its heyday on New York's Lower East Side. Adler made his stage debut at an early age, appearing with his parents. The three Adlers played the London Palladium with Sophie Tucker in the 1950s. He continued to appear in Yiddish theatre throughout his teens, also appearing in mainstream American theatre as his parents made a similar "crossover," most notably appearing in productions of Neil Simon's Come Blow Your Horn.
One Thousand and One Nights (Arabic: كِتَاب أَلْف لَيْلَة وَلَيْلَة kitāb ʾalf layla wa-layla) is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English language edition (1706), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights' Entertainment.
The work was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West, Central, and South Asia and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Mesopotamian, Indian, and Egyptian folklore and literature. In particular, many tales were originally folk stories from the Caliphate era, while others, especially the frame story, are most probably drawn from the Pahlavi Persian work Hazār Afsān (Persian: هزار افسان, lit. A Thousand Tales) which in turn relied partly on Indian elements.
What is common throughout all the editions of the Nights is the initial frame story of the ruler Shahryār (from Persian: شهريار, meaning "king" or "sovereign") and his wife Scheherazade (from Persian: شهرزاد, possibly meaning "of noble lineage"), and the framing device incorporated throughout the tales themselves. The stories proceed from this original tale; some are framed within other tales, while others begin and end of their own accord. Some editions contain only a few hundred nights, while others include 1,001 or more. The bulk of the text is in prose, although verse is occasionally used for songs and riddles and to express heightened emotion. Most of the poems are single couplets or quatrains, although some are longer.
The Scots-English language name Bruce arrived in Scotland with the Normans, from the place name Brix of the Manche département in Normandy, France, meaning "the willowlands". Initially promulgated via the descendants of King Robert I of Scotland (Robert the Bruce) (1274-1329), it has been a Scottish surname since medieval times; it is now a common given name.
The variant Lebrix and Le Brix are French variations of the surname.
Adler is a surname of German origin meaning eagle, and has a frequency in the United Kingdom of less than 0.004%, and of 0.008% in the United States. In Christian iconography, the eagle is the symbol of John the Evangelist, and as such a stylized eagle was commonly used as a house sign/totem in German speaking areas. From the tenement the term easily moved to its inhabitants, particularly to those having only one name. This phenomenon can be easily seen in German and Austrian censuses from the 16th and 17th centuries. The term might have been assigned also as a name descriptive of character or outward characteristics.
Die Adler (the eagles) also is a nickname for the Germany national football team.

Here is Bruce Adler's final recording of the "Arabian Nights" reprise, recorded for Aladdin. The song was alter cut from the final film. In the original treatment, the narrator -- The Genie of the Ring, a character cut from the final film -- would appear from time to time to comment on and explain various points of the story, a theater device Howard and Alan had previously used in LITTLE SHOP. Though this aspect of the story was cut when ALADDIN went back into production, the final reprise was retained, though slightly rewritten. Though cut from the final film, this recording was later used to end the final Aladdin film, ALADDIN AND THE KING OF THIEVES. It has been synced up to the final animation. A final reprise, heavily based off this reprise, is included in the recent musical adapta...

The opening song from Disney's 1992 hit, Aladdin. Written by Alan Menken & Howard Ashman Performed by Bruce Adler Oh, I come from a land, from a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense. (Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face) It's barbaric, but hey, it's home When the wind's from the east And the sun's from the west And the sand in the glass is right Come on down Stop on by Hop a carpet and fly To another Arabian night Arabian Nights like Arabian days More often than not Are hotter than hot In a lot of good ways Arabian Nights 'neath Arabian moons A fool off his guard Could fall and fall hard Out there on the dunes Of course, I do not own the rights to the music or lyrics.

Garnet Bruce, stage director of San Fracisco Opera's production of Puccini's Turandot, talks about the extraordinary scenic design by David Hockney. Puccini's final masterpiece opens the season under the baton of Music Director Nicola Luisotti, who conducted this melodically rich, colorfully orchestrated work to great acclaim at London's Royal Opera House in 2009. This passionate tale of a princess whose cruelty masks her fear of love features some of the composer's most glorious music, including the stirring anthem "Nessun dorma." It will be performed by an outstanding cast led by Swedish soprano Iréne Theorin, "the world's reigning Turandot" (Opera Britannia); Adler Fellow Leah Crocetto, an "outlandishly gifted soprano" (San Francisco Chronicle); and Marco Berti, "one of the preeminent ...
