Somalia (/səˈmɑːliə, soʊ-, -ljə/so-MAH-lee-ə; Somali: Soomaaliya; Arabic: الصومال aṣ-Ṣūmāl), officially the Federal Republic of Somalia (Somali: Jamhuuriyadda Federaalka Soomaaliya, Arabic: جمهورية الصومال الفدرالية Jumhūrīyat aṣ-Ṣūmāl al-Fidirālīyah), is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and Kenya to the southwest. Somalia has the longest coastline on the continent's mainland, and its terrain consists mainly of plateaus, plains and highlands. Climatically, hot conditions prevail year-round, with periodic monsoon winds and irregular rainfall.
Somalia has a population of around 10.8 million. Around 85% of its residents are ethnic Somalis, who have historically inhabited the northern part of the country. Ethnic minorities are largely concentrated in the southern regions. The official languages of Somalia are Somali and Arabic, both of which belong to the Afroasiatic family. Most people in the country are Muslim, with the majority being Sunni.

Plot: Set in NYC, Carefree Somalia (Sylvie Marc-Charles) seemed pretty content with life: Got a good-looking boyfriend, Zavier (Omar Jaslin) for a musician, is in school to become a fashion designer, got her own place, is extrovert, likes to hit up the clubs just to feel the music, and has her own circle of friends who accepts her for who she is. A recurring complication soon becomes an issue between Somalia and her boyfriend that bifurcate their relationship. Her relationship with Zavier is put to the test when every personal experience becomes communal. DIRECTOR'S NOTE The film underscores the integration of the relationship between the hearing and the Deaf communities as well as other cultures. We believe in integration and interaction that places strong emphasis in addressing communication barriers and toppling them. There are issues we would like to address for the lack of representation, inappropriate exploitations, and negative stereotyping and ineffective exposure.

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Al Shabaab has been a threat to Somalia for almost a decade. In 2013, the group claimed responsibility for the Westgate Mall attacks in Nairobi, Kenya, where 67 people were killed. This signaled a shift in the scope of al Shabaab's tactics, which until this point had been focused within Somalia, where the group was in control of much of the country. Over the past few years, with help from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), many cities that were once al Shabaab strongholds were taken back by Somali forces. IMF completes first economic review on Somalia in more than 25 years, highlights from the African Union Summit and Kenya bails from the East African Community capital markets integration project. CNBC Africa reports.
Somalia has for decades been described as the sick man of the sub Saharan Africa in terms of trade and economic stability, owing to the grim reality that has befallen it for the past 21 years. This has seen it fail to engage in any form of trade activity both in and outside the country due to lack of a legitimate government till last year. However, with relative peace returning to the country, Mogadishu sea port is a bee hive of activities, receiving up to 20 ships and small vessels per day, with up to 35 cargo ships per month.

It is an approach to bring together multiple stakeholders across sectors who share common goals to improve population health and further the concept of “health in all policies”.

That complexity is leading the Obama administration to expand the use of small teams of Special Operators in various terror hotspots. Take a quick drive with us through liberated Mogadishu, from Lido Beach, Abdiaziz, to Via Roma, Hamarweyne. The Somali government re-took the city from Shabaab rebels with support from the African Union well over a year ago and now despite some remaining concerns daytime checkpoints have been removed from the main roads. Security is still something to consider, nevertheless the city is safer than it has been in over two decades and many people are coming home and finally seeing how the city will heal. After leaving Djibouti by land across the Somaliland border, the voyage continues in this videos as I traverse Zeila, Hargeisa, Laas Gaal, and Berbera. See the birds, animals, and people of Somaliland and the ancient cave paintings in Laas Gaal. Stay tuned for more videos from the trip coming soon.

I don't know why I feel this way today
The sky is blue the table is laid
The trees are heavy with yellow fruit
And in their shade children happily play
The pears have fallen to the ground
My child places one in my hand
The sun is warm upon my face
And I dream of a burning land
Mother of famine take this pear
Upon an arrow through the rings of time
This small fruit this golden prayer
May it pass from this hand to thine
If I were rain I'd rain on somalia
If I were grain for somalia I'd grow
If I were bread I would rise for somalia
If I were a river for somalia I'd flow
All the mothers will dream of thee
All the mothers bless thy empty hand
All the mothers will grieve for thee
All the sorrow a mother can stand
If we were rain we would rain on somalia
If we were grain for somalia we'd grow
If we were bread we would rise for somalia
