The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization whose stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." It works through litigation, lobbying, and community empowerment. Founded in 1920 by Roger Baldwin, Crystal Eastman, Walter Nelles, Morris Ernst, Albert DeSilver, Arthur Garfield Hays, Helen Keller, Jane Addams, Felix Frankfurter, and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, the ACLU has over 500,000 members and has an annual budget of over $100 million. Local affiliates of the ACLU are active in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The ACLU provides legal assistance in cases when it considers civil liberties to be at risk. Legal support from the ACLU can take the form of direct legal representation, or preparation of amicus curiae briefs expressing legal arguments (when another law firm is already providing representation).
Avram Noam Chomsky (/ˈnoʊm ˈtʃɒmski/; born December 7, 1928) is an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, logician, social critic, and political activist. Sometimes described as "the father of modern linguistics," Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy, and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science. He has spent most of his career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he is Institute Professor Emeritus, and is the author of over 100 books, primarily on politics and linguistics. Ideologically, he aligns with anarcho-syndicalism and libertarian socialism.
Born to a middle-class Ashkenazi Jewish family in Philadelphia, Chomsky developed an early interest in anarchism from alternative bookstores in New York City. At the age of sixteen he began studies at the University of Pennsylvania, taking courses in linguistics, mathematics, and philosophy. He married fellow linguist Carol Schatz in 1949. From 1951 to 1955 he was appointed to Harvard University's Society of Fellows, where he developed the theory of transformational grammar for which he was awarded his doctorate in 1955. That year he began teaching at MIT, in 1957 emerging as a significant figure in the field of linguistics for his landmark work Syntactic Structures, which laid the basis for the scientific study of language, while from 1958 to 1959 he was a National Science Foundation fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study. He is credited as the creator or co-creator of the universal grammar theory, the generative grammar theory, the Chomsky hierarchy, and the minimalist program. Chomsky also played a pivotal role in the decline of behaviorism, being particularly critical of the work of B. F. Skinner.

The right of every American to practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all, is among the most fundamental of freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. But while the United States is home to more than 1,500 different faiths and some 360,000 houses of worship, religious freedom faces threats on many fronts. This episode of The ACLU Freedom Files includes the story of Abbey Moler, a high school valedictorian who was asked to include some words of wisdom in her yearbook and selected a Bible verse. When the yearbook was published, her choice was omitted, and she successfully took on the school district. You'll go to the front lines of one of the most heated civil-liberties controversies in recent history and hear from parents and teachers who were part of a lawsuit in Dover, Pa....
SOURCE: http://bobpowell.blogspot.com/2013/02/aclu-lawyer-calls-obama-judge-jury.html A recently leaked Department of Justice "White Paper" gives the President of the United States and those he designates - "high government officials" - the authority to take the life of any American citizen, even if there is no proof that the citizen in question is involved in nefarious activities. John Brennan, the Obama administration's pick to replace Leon Panetta as the next CIA Director, has found his nomination put on hold by Senator Rand Paul after refusing to answer Paul's question in front of the Senate sub-committee regarding the use of drones to attack American citizens domestically; again without ever having been charged with a crime in a court of law. Senator Paul calls the idea "appalling."...
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: On March 2nd, at the Oklahoma Judicial Center in Oklahoma City, a referee for the Supreme Court of Oklahoma considered both the protest and rebuttal against a ballot initiative petition to treat abortion as murder. If enacted, the measure would add a new section to Article 2 of the Oklahoma Constitution, effectively outlawing abortion as murder throughout the state. The petition to amend the Oklahoma Constitution to define abortion as murder, brought by Norman resident Thomas Russell Hunter, who filed papers on Jan. 27 for the petition, was challenged by the Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, on Feb. 12. Another hearse roll up slow,
Carry one more poor lost soul,
Carry them things every single day
Cause it makes him feel safe
Cause he carry on them ways, screw face
Love the game-reppin' his estate,
Talk tough look straight in his face,
Carrying deep pain self-hate,
Carry fam, so he carry weight,
It's logical daddy got carried away,
Not married away, just didn't stay
Coward carried his son to this fate,
His boys carrying weight in a wooden box can't stand straight,
They was getting outta the game,
But look fate she don't wait
Now the woman in the front row, her face t show no pain,
But her brain went insane on the day the news came,
Stare into space, face numb,
The boy getting carried, she carried 9 months
[Chorus:]
When this world strip me naked, I turn and
I face it,
And really believe I have the strength to change it,
I'm crazy, it's blatant sometimes I get carried away
When this world strip me naked, I turn and I face it,
And really believe I have the strength to change it,
I'm crazy, it's blatant sometimes I get carried away
One more body bag getting carried back,
From the war zone where they carry straps,
Where little kids is attacking tanks cause they carry no fear of the man,
All they know here is they land
And a hero, gotta make a stand,
So they roll cold with it in their hand,
Let bang on the big bad man,
But this particular soldier never move colder
Never enrolled to blow no homes up
Felt that life had carried him under
Chose to phone the number
The army gives you training,
Nothing they say could really explain it,
Sign them t papers, enslavement,
Now you're a tool to carry their hatred,
Rob, steal, strip a nation
All he wanted was qualifications
So he could carry his family places,
Better than those that he was raised in
Never really thought, he'd ever have to go to war,
Now who's gonna tell his kids daddy can't carry them no more
