In acknowledgement of the diversity of groups contributing to the Wikimedia movement, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees recognizes models of affiliation within the Wikimedia movement – chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups.

History:

The current Wikimedia affiliation models was developed by the Movement roles project. Development began in 2010 after discussion at the Chapters meeting 2010 and was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees on March 31, 2012. The Affiliations Committee advises and makes recommendations regarding the recognition and existence of Wikimedia movement affiliates.

  • 2016-09-26 Tremendous Wiktionary User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 Whose Knowledge is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 Art+Feminism User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 GLAM Macedonia Wikimedians is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 Wikimedians of Peru User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-08-19 The Affiliations Committee announced changes to current chapter and thematic organization criteria.
  • 2016-08-12 Wikimedia User Group status of PhilWiki Community is renewed for a one-year term through January 17, 2017.
  • 2016-08-1 WikiToLearn User Group is recognized as a Wikimedia User Group for a one-year, renewable period, on August 1, 2016.
  • 2016-08-1 Wikimedia Community User Group Malta is recognized as a Wikimedia User Group for a one-year, renewable period, on August 1, 2016.
