I first met Ryan Coogler at @TED in Vancouver 2014. I had suffered a concussion the week before, so my brain wasn’t really working, but it could still distinguish black people, which is why (in the TED setting) Coogler stood out along with @BlackGirlsCode founder Kimberly Bryant. I gave both of them massive hugs, yelling, “Black people at TED!”

I then thanked Ryan for making @FruitvaleStation, the story of Oscar Grant and his murder by the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police. Last week, Ryan was a guest on @thedailyshow and, non-concussed, I could thank him for @creedmovie AND Fruitvale Station and snag this selfie.

I loved Fruitvale so much, I spent my own money buying ads for it on social media. I changed my profile and cover images to those of the film. I still maintain it’s one of the few films ever made that people should be forced to watch. Like hijack-your-phone-while-you’re-on-Tinder forced.

I’m so glad filmmakers like Ryan Coogler and Ava Duvernay (@directher) exist. Support their art because embedded in it is important activism. And see Creed. It will make you want to take up boxing (just no head shots please).

This video was created based on the Ted Cruz campaign’s raw footage dump and aired on the December 3, 2015 episode of The Daily Show.

We encourage you to make your own remixed Ted Cruz video based on the raw footage and your own creativity. Then post it to Tumblr with “Cruz Your Own Adventure” as the tag or submit it directly to us here. We’ll reblog the ones we like and put the best on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Have fun, internet.
