As we saw in the earlier video cause of season is the tilt of earth of 23.5 degrees. This leads to sun's ray fall more directly over northern hemisphere than southern hemisphere. So northern hemisphere has summer and at the same time southern hemisphere has winters. As we enjoy the lovely mangoes here in India during our summers we hardly realize that summers are actually longer for us in Northern hemisphere by 3 almost days. Correspondingly the people living in the Southern Hemispjere (Australians) shiver in winters by 3 extra days. Let’s look at reasons behind this inequality.
The root cause of this inequality lies in the theory discovered by Johannes Kepler in 1609. In his first law he proved that orbit of earth is slightly elliptical and the sun is at a slight offset from the middle, at the focus of ellipse. What this means is that sun will closer to sun at some point (which is called the perihelion). The farthest point is called aphelion when the northern hemisphere is enjoying summers.
In his second law Kepler also said the earth sweeps equal areas in orbit in equal time. It means that to cover equal areas in same interval of time, when earth is far from sun it has to move less distance than when it is closer. This might sound complicated, but what it essentially boils down to is that speed of earth is faster when it is closer to sun and slower when far away. Currently the perihelion or the closes point to sun happens when the northern hemisphere is enjoying winters. So the speed of earth around the sun is faster when we in Northern Hemisphere have winters. So the winters in Northern hemisphere are shorter and summers longer. Correspondingly it is slower when Northern Hemisphere has summers as earth is close to farthest point called the aphelion. Since the earth orbit is not slightly elliptical this difference is not large and we get to enjoy longer summers by 3 days. If our orbit would like Mars which is around 10% elliptical orbit the difference between summers and winters would be much larger 25 days. But there's a flip side to this because that means that the Northern Hemisphere summer is four days longer than the southern hemisphere summer. Which helps explain why July is our planet's warmest month, At that point the Northern continents that are pointing towards the sun get a few days more to bake in the sun and raise the average temperature of the entire globe?

Some notes about this.
We each repeated the experiment 3 times, and got the same results every time. For those of you who might be skeptical, great! The good news is that right circularly prismatic kiddie pools are only $10 and you can do the experiment for yourself at your latitude. There's really no reason you shouldn't do this on your own, so before you criticize how we've done it, I'd strongly encourage you to do it for yourself.

Gordon McGladdery did all of the sound design for the video. We used two songs from other artists (licensed of course). Derek split the first one up so it fades from video to video, and Gordon split the instruments up on the second one. There are violins on one video and percussion on the other for example. It's really neat.
The neat earth animation at the beginning and the synchronizing timer was made by http://eisenfeuer.com/. He also made still images of the earth from the top and the bottom.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been so active!
I made this fanvid about Darvey 'cause I've been totally obsessed with the last two episodes of season 4, I've watched their scenes like 30 times, I'm not kidding, and I can't help but think Gabriel and Sarah totally killed it. They are always good in their performances, but they absolutely nailed their scenes together in 4x15-16. You could read their emotions right on their faces, there was no need for them to say anything. And don't even get me started about the change of tone in Gabriel's voice when Harvey was speaking to Donna on the couch, or when they started talking about what he said then in his office. And his face when Donna left him? Seriously, all the awards.
I seriously think they should finally get together, and this was the only way to shake things up between them and make them move in the 'relationship status' direction, and if Korsh dares take it all back I'm gonna be so pissed. I've been listening to This Empty Northern Hemisphere since I watched the season 4 finale and I just thought 'Oh to hell with that, I'll just make a fanvid'. The final result is nothing spectacular, I just wanted to vid Darvey, 'cause it's been a long time and I also wanted to try and make a different kind of coloring. I wanted to highlight her red hair and then I just thought to highlight something about him to put in contrast to the red, so I highlighted his blue ties. Well, I think I've talked too much, I'll leave you to the video. Thanks again for watching, commenting and subscribing, I really don't know how to thank you :)

The Northern Hemisphere of Earth is the half that is north of the equator. For other planets in the Solar System, north is defined as being in the same celestial hemisphere relative to the invariable plane of the solar system as Earth's North pole.
Due to the Earth's axial tilt, winter in the Northern Hemisphere lasts from the winter solstice (typically December 21 UTC) to the March Equinox (typically March 20 UTC), while summer lasts from the summer solstice (typically June 21 UTC) through to the autumnal equinox (typically September 23 UTC). The dates vary each year due to the difference between the calendar year and the astronomical year.
Geography and climate
The Arctic is the region north of the Arctic Circle. Its climate is characterized by cold winters and cool summers. Precipitation mostly comes in the form of snow. The Arctic experiences some days in summer when the Sun never sets, and some days during the winter when it never rises. The duration of these phases varies from one day for locations right on the Arctic Circle to several months near the North Pole.

Why longer Summers in Northern Hemisphere | English | Earth Science, Astronomy, Geography
As we saw in the earlier video cause of season is the tilt of earth of 23.5 degrees. This leads to sun's ray fall more directly over northern hemisphere than southern hemisphere. So northern hemisphere has summer and at the same time southern hemisphere has winters. As we enjoy the lovely mangoes here in India during our summers we hardly realize that summers are actually longer for us in Northern hemisphere by 3 almost days. Correspondingly the people living in the Southern Hemispjere (Australians) shiver in winters by 3 extra days. Let’s look at reasons behind this inequality. The root cause of this inequality lies in the theory discovered by Johannes Kepler in 1609. I made this fanvid about Darvey 'cause I've been totally obsessed with the last two episodes of season 4, I've watched their scenes like 30 times, I'm not kidding, and I can't help but think Gabriel and Sarah totally killed it. They are always good in their performances, but they absolutely nailed their scenes together in 4x15-16. You could read their emotions right on their faces, there was no need for them to say anything. As we saw in the earlier video cause of season is the tilt of earth of 23.5 degrees. This leads to sun's ray fall more directly over northern hemisphere than southern hemisphere. So northern hemisphere has summer and at the same time southern hemisphere has winters. As we enjoy the lovely mangoes here in India during our summers we hardly realize that summers are actually longer for us in Northern hemisphere by 3 almost days. Correspondingly the people living in the Southern Hemispjere (Australians) shiver in winters by 3 extra days. Let’s look at reasons behind this inequality.
The root cause of this inequality lies in the theory discovered by Johannes Kepler in 1609. In his first law he proved that orbit of earth is slightly elliptical and the sun is at a slight offset from the middle, at the focus of ellipse. What this means is that sun will closer to sun at some point (which is called the perihelion). The farthest point is called aphelion when the northern hemisphere is enjoying summers.
In his second law Kepler also said the earth sweeps equal areas in orbit in equal time. It means that to cover equal areas in same interval of time, when earth is far from sun it has to move less distance than when it is closer. This might sound complicated, but what it essentially boils down to is that speed of earth is faster when it is closer to sun and slower when far away. Currently the perihelion or the closes point to sun happens when the northern hemisphere is enjoying winters. So the speed of earth around the sun is faster when we in Northern Hemisphere have winters. So the winters in Northern hemisphere are shorter and summers longer. Correspondingly it is slower when Northern Hemisphere has summers as earth is close to farthest point called the aphelion. Since the earth orbit is not slightly elliptical this difference is not large and we get to enjoy longer summers by 3 days. If our orbit would like Mars which is around 10% elliptical orbit the difference between summers and winters would be much larger 25 days. But there's a flip side to this because that means that the Northern Hemisphere summer is four days longer than the southern hemisphere summer. Which helps explain why July is our planet's warmest month, At that point the Northern continents that are pointing towards the sun get a few days more to bake in the sun and raise the average temperature of the entire globe?

Gordon McGladdery did all of the sound design for the video. We used two songs from other artists (licensed of course). Derek split the first one up so it fades from video to video, and Gordon split the instruments up on the second one. There are violins on one video and percussion on the other for example. It's really neat.
The neat earth animation at the beginning and the synchronizing timer was made by http://eisenfeuer.com/. He also made still images of the earth from the top and the bottom.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been so active!
I made this fanvid about Darvey 'cause I've been totally obsessed with the last two episodes of season 4, I've watched their scenes like 30 times, I'm not kidding, and I can't help but think Gabriel and Sarah totally killed it. They are always good in their performances, but they absolutely nailed their scenes together in 4x15-16. You could read their emotions right on their faces, there was no need for them to say anything. And don't even get me started about the change of tone in Gabriel's voice when Harvey was speaking to Donna on the couch, or when they started talking about what he said then in his office. And his face when Donna left him? Seriously, all the awards.
I seriously think they should finally get together, and this was the only way to shake things up between them and make them move in the 'relationship status' direction, and if Korsh dares take it all back I'm gonna be so pissed. I've been listening to This Empty Northern Hemisphere since I watched the season 4 finale and I just thought 'Oh to hell with that, I'll just make a fanvid'. The final result is nothing spectacular, I just wanted to vid Darvey, 'cause it's been a long time and I also wanted to try and make a different kind of coloring. I wanted to highlight her red hair and then I just thought to highlight something about him to put in contrast to the red, so I highlighted his blue ties. Well, I think I've talked too much, I'll leave you to the video. Thanks again for watching, commenting and subscribing, I really don't know how to thank you :)

Mauritius offers the opportunity to unparalleled luxury, a level of refinement that is ahead of many other other tropical holiday destinations. Mauritius was named after Dutch Prince Maurice Van Nassau.
Mauritius' white beaches are protected by a coral reef barrier that encircles almost all of the coastline, with the exception of the southern end, where it falls away and where wilder waters and dramatic cliffs can be observed. From the northern plains, the land rises to a central plateau dotted by lakes and extinct volcanic craters. A few uninhabited islets area are scattered around the main island.
Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, was founded by the French governor and colonist Bertrand-François Mahé de La Bourdonnais in 1735. Situated on the north-west coast, Port Louis is the business and administrative capital of Mauritius. Packed with office-workers during the day, it quickly quietens down after office-hours allowing visitors to enjoy a night out along the famous Caudan Waterfront.
The south reveals a dramatically different landscape from the rest of the island: one typified by high cliffs in places that are battered by waves. These are created where the protective barrier of coral reef that surrounds Mauritius falls away on the seabed, so leaving the coastline exposed to a punishing Indian Ocean. But the south is not singularly about cliffs and rough waters. Further round the coastline, heading westwards, are an array of beautiful beaches and top-rate hotels and resorts, in up-and-coming areas such as Bel Ombre.
The eastern coastline of Mauritius is comprised of exquisite coves and emerald lagoons, permanently enhanced by a cool sea breeze: life goes by at a slow pace in the east whether you're a member of the fishing community or a holidaymaker. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the east is characterised by charming little villages with poetic names like Petite Julie, Mare d'Australia and Queen Victoria. It also plays home to some of the country's best beaches, including Belle Mare, where you will want to spend hours basking in the sun, glorying in the sight of the long stretch of white sand.
To the west and south west of Mauritius off Tamarin Bay or Flic en Flac, heading in the direction of Île aux Benitiers, you can see the dolphins that come to these waters to rest and breed. The Morne Mountain, with its historical links to slavery, can also be found in this region --as well as some fine hotels known for their wide choice of watersports. Slightly inland, in the hills around Chamarel, is the rum distillery that bears the name of the village. Here, you can learn about rum production and taste some of the delightful produce.

On a clear night in the northern hemisphere, you can find north with a little bit of stellar constellation knowledge. If you can find the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) then it is simple to find the North Star (Polaris).
If you follow the imaginary line from the tip of the 'cup' of the Big Dipper, you will find The North Star.
Ursa Major will move and rotate across our sky throughout the year. You may look up one day and struggle to locate it because it'll be upside down, so just be aware of that.
And during the months of June through to October, Ursa Major lies very low on the horizon, so if you're standing at the base of a mountain or cliff face, your view of the constellation may be totally obscured. Likewise, if you're standing at the foot of a hill or in front bunch of trees, you'll encounter the same problem. So try to get to vast, empty, open ground if possible.

Diwali (or Deepavali, the "festival of lights") is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn (northern hemisphere) or spring (southern hemisphere) every year. Arguably the most important festival in Hinduism, it is an official holiday in Fiji, Guyana, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar,Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness or good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings in the communities and countries where it is observed. The festival preparations and rituals typically extend over a five-day period, but the main festival night of Diwali coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. In the Gregorian calendar, Diwali night falls between mid-October and mid-November.
Before Diwali night, people clean, renovate, and decorate their homes and offices. On Diwali night, Hindus dress up in new clothes or their best outfit, light up diyas (lamps and candles) inside and outside their home, participate in family puja (prayers) typically to Lakshmi – the goddess of fertility and prosperity. After puja, fireworks follow, then a family feast including mithai (sweets), and an exchange of gifts between family members and close friends. Deepavali also marks a major shopping period in nations where it is celebrated.
Diwali is an important festival for Hindus. The name of festive days as well as the rituals of Diwali vary significantly among Hindus, based on the region of India. In many parts of India, the festivities start with Dhanteras (in Northern and Western part of India), followed by Naraka Chaturdasi on second day, Deepavali on the third day, Diwali Padva dedicated to wife–husband relationship on the fourth day, and festivities end with Bhau-beej dedicated to sister–brother bond on the fifth day. Dhanteras usually falls eighteen days after Dussehra.

Ever wondered how it feels see 2 halves of the world? Wouldn't it be an adventure to stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one foot on the southern hemisphere of the world?
You can get this feeling by visiting the Uganda Equator.
According to Wikipedia "The equator (sometimes referred to colloquially as "the Line") is the intersection of the Earth's surface with the plane perpendicular to the Earth's axis of rotation and containing the Earth's center of mass." Simply said it is the imaginary line that divides the earth in half. With the north on one side and the south on another.
At the Uganda Equator you will see this by a line drawn in the middle of the street. And with a monument on both sides that state "Uganda Equator". It is an absolutely amazing feeling to stand on both sides of the world.
Other than the fact that you can stand on both sides of the Equator there is also the opportunity to see an experiment of how water drains straight down at the Equator. But the water will drain clockwise on the northern hemisphere and counterclockwise on the southern hemisphere. This is something very different to see.
There are also different souvenirs shops at the Equator where you can buy souvenirs to show off your adventure to your friends and family. Like a T-Shirt that says "I have crossed the Uganda Equator, have you?". I have tried searching for some souvenirs online without much luck. So I guess the only way to get these souvenirs is when you experience it for yourself.

Travel Video of Uganda's Equator in East Africa: Watch the vortex change the water rotation. The water rotation changes on either side of the equator.
Ever wondered how it feels see 2 halves of the world? Wouldn't it be an adventure to stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one foot on the southern hemisphere of the world?
You can get this feeling by visiting the Uganda Equator.
According to Wikipedia "The equator (sometimes referred to colloquially as "the Line") is the intersection of the Earth's surface with the plane perpendicular to the Earth's axis of rotation and containing the Earth's center of mass." Simply said it is the imaginary line that divides the earth in half. With the north on one side and the south on another.
At the Uganda Equator you will see this by a line drawn in the middle of the street. And with a monument on both sides that state "Uganda Equator". It is an absolutely amazing feeling to stand on both sides of the world.
Other than the fact that you can stand on both sides of the Equator there is also the opportunity to see an experiment of how water drains straight down at the Equator. But the water will drain clockwise on the northern hemisphere and counterclockwise on the southern hemisphere. This is something very different to see.
There are also different souvenirs shops at the Equator where you can buy souvenirs to show off your adventure to your friends and family. Like a T-Shirt that says "I have crossed the Uganda Equator, have you?". I have tried searching for some souvenirs online without much luck. So I guess the only way to get these souvenirs is when you experience it for yourself.
