Nick Saban: I didn't know Tuesday was Election Day

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban celebrates as he leaves the field following a win against the LSU Tigers in a game at Tiger Stadium. Alabama defeated LSU 10-0.

Coaches and players across all sports have been asked to weigh in on Donald Trump's upcoming presidency after Tuesday's shocking election. While some have declined to comment, others have been openly supportive or critical of Trump.

Then, there's Nick Saban, who apparently didn't know an election was happening.

During his Wednesday press conference, Saban was asked if he wanted to give any thoughts on the election - a long-shot, but it was definitely worth asking. Well, that was when Saban revealed that he didn't even know Tuesday was Election Day.

Saban said he doesn't talk politics because he didn't want people to dislike him, which was almost as shocking as him not knowing the most polarizing election in modern U.S. history was happening.

He said:

"To be honest with you, I didn't even know yesterday was Election Day. So, it was so important to me that I didn't even know it was happening. We're focused on other things here. I don't really make political comments. So, if I say I like one person that means everybody who voted for the other person doesn't like me. So, why would I do that?"

Saban continued and hinted that he at least knew who won.

"I want what's best for our country. I'm not sure I can figure that out. I want what's best for people who want to improve the quality of their life. I hope whoever our leader is, he will certainly do all that he can do to make our country safe and improve the quality of life of a lot of the people that we have in our country. And I don't think I'm qualified to determine who that should be."
