Applications for 2016 Work Experience and Internship programs are now closed

WORK EXPERIENCE (for secondary students)

News Corp’s Victorian newspapers offer a work experience program for Victorian secondary school students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Places are strictly limited and available only on selected weeks which have been predetermined by the company.

In 2016, the program will be offered on some school holiday weeks.

Students will spend their week learning about various careers within the media industry, with a focus on journalism.

Areas covered in the week include:

Journalism

Photography

Production

Students will spend time at the Herald Sun in Southbank.

Please be aware that work experience places at the Herald Sun are highly sought after and extremely limited. We receive hundreds of applications for just 24 openings and selection is based on the questionnaire included in the application. Unfortunately, just lodging an application will not guarantee a place.

Also, if you are successful in your application but can no longer attend your allocated work experience week, please notify us straight away so we can offer the placement to another applicant.

CLOSING DATE

Applications for the 2016 program are now closed.

Work experience placements will be assigned by the middle of February. We will notify successful and unsuccessful applicants by the end of February.

INTERNSHIPS (for university students)

Journalism

Students enrolled in journalism and/or communication courses at Victorian universities have the opportunity to undertake an internship within the editorial departments of some of News Corp’s Victorian publications.

These placements are co-ordinated by the designated university authority. Priority is given to students enrolled in these courses. However, places are limited and interviews may be held to assess a candidate’s suitability.

Applications are to be emailed to vicinterns@news.com.au. The email will generate an automated reply that is confirmation of the receipt of your application. It does not constitute confirmation of a place. We will assess your application and reply formally to you after evaluating your application.

The applications should include a brief resume illustrating interest in journalism, area of interest, samples of original written, broadcast or published work and preferred dates for placement. These placements are also conditional upon approval from the university.

Appropriate paperwork for personal liability must be received from the university before placement can commence. Internships are undertaken in the final year of study and are non-paying positions.

Photography

Students enrolled in university or college photography courses have the opportunity to undertake an internship within the pictorial departments of some of News Limited’s Victorian publications.

These placements are co-ordinated by the designated university authority. Priority is given to students enrolled in these courses. Students enrolled in courses other than photography can apply for an internship. However, places are limited.
