Martin Kowalczyk and the Uncanny Taxmen take on Eureka Climb on November 13

AS a taxmen, Martin Kowalczyk is used to crunching numbers.

But on November 13 he and 14 work colleagues, dubbed ‘The Uncanny Taxmen’, will be crunching the 1642 steps of Melbourne’s tallest building.

Mr Kowalczyk, from Noble Park, and his team are taking part in the Eureka Climb to raise money for Whitelion, which helps young people at risk; and Interplast, which helps people with disability and congenital conditions in the Asia Pacific region.

“My colleagues and I have been practising a lot lately,” Mr Kowalczyk said.

“Our building (at work) has 20 levels. That’s over 200 steps and we practise three times a day.

“When I get into work I climb to the top, again at lunch and then on tea break, it’s exhausting,” he said.

It’s the 34-year-old’s first time climbing the 88 levels of the Eureka Tower.

His team will compete in the untimed walk category.

“I expect it to take us around 1.5 hours,” he said.

“It really depends on how I feel on the day … but I really want to challenge myself.

“I do the 1000 steps in the Dandenong Ranges fairly often so I think I’ll be well equipped.”

The Uncanny Taxmen have raised more than $400.

Last year’s event raised over $260,000.
