Langwarrrin dad’s job plea for employers to give autistic son, 15, a chance

A DESPERATE dad has issued a social media plea to employers to give his autistic son a chance.

Ethan Davis, who has high-functioning autism, has been searching for casual work since he turned 15 earlier this year, but has been constantly turned down.

“It’s time I got a job and earnt my own pocket money,” he told parents Kellie and Adam when he became eligible to work.

When visited by Leader, he said: “I want to become more independent, earn some money and learn life skills.”

But despite applying for countless jobs and going for multiple interviews, the family believes employers can’t see past the Langwarrin teen’s condition, which includes monotone speech.

He has tried the fast-food chains and supermarkets. Dad Adam said the repetitive nature of some of the work involved was perfectly suited to someone like Ethan.

Watching his son’s disappointment grow after repeated knockbacks, Mr Davis took to Facebook to explain what employers were missing.

Larry Dela Cruz who has autism is in his element when he goes to work for Busways where he allocates bus routes to bus drivers. He is able to recall the routes and codes by memory.

Larry shines in his dream job.

“He has excellent communication skills and an absolute desire to find a part time job,” Mr Davis wrote.

“If you want a worker who is respectful to all, Ethan is this. If you want a worker who will follow every direction you give him to the letter, Ethan will.

“If you want a task performed the same way every single time, Ethan will do so.”
