Thieves raided the school over the long weekend.

Staff and students at Ballam Park Primary School have been left devastated after $20,000 worth of laptops, musical instruments and belongings were stolen over the weekend.

Thieves raided the school in Frankston on Sunday morning, school council president Tamara McDonald told Neil Mitchell.

"It's left all of our staff and students, who struggle to understand how this could have happened, really devastated," she said.

"We all work so hard to upgrade our school, scumbags like this come along."

They were hopeful CCTV footage nearby may have captured the offenders.

She said they may have to dip into savings to cover the shortfall, despite insurance.
